Also don't forget that some on here have proclaimed him the Scottish antichrist, so maybe he'll just think, ah! to hell with it and leave

Powell said a few weeks ago that Ross had created a very good system and network of scouts. If we don't need him, then how come nobody on here had put forward David Edgar as a possible and realistic target? Because he isn't very good? Plus he was linked strongly when Clark was manager

Throwing names of well known good players in the hat is a piece of cake. Finding ones that will fit a role, the ethos of the club, and our budget is not so easy.

The same job that Gobern did against Watford, Rotherham and when he came on at Boro last week yet many on here tell us he is not good enough Lets have a look at it at the end of the season. Edgar is a jack of all trades, master of none, explained by 140 games in a 10 year career

Directorahip & a key cog in the wheel. It would surely take a lot to lure him away. Hopefully he is cracking on with the task at hand.

Wilson will be missed,he got wells for a lot less than Bradford wanted, due to his contacts he found out no one else were bidding despite Bradford naming clubs who were,he also got coady in due to contacts at Liverpool despite wages being better elsewhere...just because its not always obvious he does a good job.

I hope we can keep Wilson, Dean Hoyle thinks he's indispensable!

Reports in a few papers linking him with a move to Southampton as Ronald Koeman wants to strengthen his backroom staff. Thoughts? He'd be mad to go. Korean will be in a bigger job next year in Spain or Germany. They aren't going to want him in those countries you wouldn't have thought. So he would be in a job and out of one in 6 months. About as rubbish as your transfer garbage. As for the Korean, he might be. What does he do, fry rice at the stadium? Wilson would go into the backroom staff, and if you read a newspaper once in a while (no, not news network) you'd know how Southampton are set up and that jobs don't come and go with a manager.

Shows he's been on our radar for at least 5 years. Not saying there won't be many like that though.

Interesting article - Big data is here in football and software programmers will be the new Ginola's; “All of our pitches at the training ground have remote control cameras which come back to the Black Box. An analyst could have any training session, whether it’s under-8s right the way through to the first team. All that data is coded and analysed and it can be used for any age group of players, merged with match analysis, used as a teaching tool. So when our scouts are out doing opposition reports all that’s fed in automatically.
“In terms of recruitment, we have feeds from most of the good leagues around the world. We have analysts who chop them up and code them. When we’re looking at players we have instant access to video material or statistical analysis. It enables us to compare potential recruits with the profiles of our own players. That’s one way we can compare potential recruits with our own academy players and say – you know what, this kid meets the profile anyway. That helps all of our decision-making.
“We’ve got a fantastic group of eyes-on scouts and fantastic analysts – so the idea is that they challenge each other all the time. So when a scout says - this is the best striker in Croatia, the analysts have all the data to challenge it." If this is what we do, it'd be interesting to see which signings we haven't made because of this 'data' and how that/those players are now doing The point of the 'data' is to determine how they would perform in our current/projected set-up. How well they perform elsewhere may not invalidate the decision.

Hang on I thought he wasn't responsible for transfers and they were all Robins fault - that seemed the logic to many when it was time to hang Robins last spring!
For me Wilson has always been involved in transfers and should explain the logic of Majewski, Peltier when rightly getting praise for Coady, Robinson
We've yet to see a development signing work out, Carroll, Carr came for fees and don't look likely to make it, in Carr's case even as a pro. Lolley "may" but he cost a good amount so really should at his price
Bunn came via his Dad. Smith signed by Eyre pre Wilson. So I don't credit Wilson with those deals
No one has come through yet from the academy in the new regime. Too early to judge
Is Wilson doing a great job? development signings, no. Academy? maybe, but until they get into the first team I can't decide and first team signings a bit of a mixed bag IMO
For me Wilson is alright but I've yet to see anything exceptional yet

If Southampton think that Ross Wilson is better at a task they need than their current incumbent, that's highly impressive given the success they've had in recent recruitment, both at first team and (albeit now we see the fruits of a few years ago) youth level, too. I think Tottenham recently poached their equivalent, to link up with Pochetino

You do realise those transfers were already in the pipeline and okay'd by a manager?

We signed Butterfield on the 13th August and Powell wasn't appointed until September Robinson and Hudson also signed before Powell started. After Parkinson and the empty chair we shouldn't be signing any players prospective managers fancy - and that is even "if" we consulted CP on those latter two deals. No way was CP involved in the Butterfield deal

No way was CP involved in the Butterfield deal I didn't say he was. Any deals sanctioned by the previous manager would have been okay'd by the board you can't renege on a deal just because you've changed manager. You reckon Scannell should have been allowed to go to Millwall? Obviously the answer from you would be yes.

I'm just pointing out the fact that we have made numerous signings in the last 6 months when we had no manager This was in response to your comment " The manager has the final say on ALL signings not Ross Wilson or Frankie Bunn. Dean Hoyle" You are wrong and clearly we DO sign players without a manager. Not really sure how you can argue the fact - we did not have a manager on the payroll when we signed Hudson, Butterfield or Robinson.

Deals in the pipeline would have been already agreed by A manager and the board. So Mark we've a chance of signing Mark Hudson from Cardiff what do you reckon? Well Ross that would be quality, go for it. I'm sorry Chris we agreed to sign Mark Hudson from Cardiff but Robins walked so we reneged on the deal. link

isn't he just an employee, just like any of the backroom staff, who lets face it could be replaced?
plus if he's that sought after there must be a bundle of cash compo coming our way?

If we did then I'm surprised. I suspect once Clayton did his medical, agreed terms etc we completed the Butterfield deal. If we did it with the Clayton deal up in the air then I'm amazed Boro would sign the deal and Hudds board would risk the exposure of two high paid players on the wage bill. Cod I'm not really sure what point you are making about a never being without a manager. If you mean caretaker managers I personally don't agree they should be signing full time players. That's my opinion but it irregular for caretaker managers to sign players as they're not accountable if they sign a dud. I can't think of a time in the past when we've made permanent signings without a permanent manager in the job My point is simply that Wilson has a big say in transfers (hence they continued without a manager, someone approached these players/ clubs etc) yet last spring all the blame for the poor signings from the fans seemed to be laid at Robins only. I thought that was out of order at the time and if Wilson gets credit for the good signings under his watch he should also get his share of criticism on the bad uns as well - and their have been a few
