Have we really got anything to lose by sacking him and appointing a youg emerging manager ? The tactics Powell plays ar absoloutely soul destroying and he seems to bein the mindset of the whole club that just about avoiding relegation is the absoloute best the club can / should be aiming for. Love to see the club take a punt on Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. It may come off it may not, but at least we might have a break from Powells soul crushingly negative football. I'm actually sick of watching Town at the minute, I'd take Powells negative football if it was actually bearing fruit but it isn't and we look as easy to beat as we ever did ! Like we did with Lee Clark you mean? Why is it football fans are evolving into people who don't seem to have any patience any more? God forbid we ever did make it to the PL because avoiding relegation in your first season is the equivalent of winning the European Cup - this board would be even more torturous if we languished in or around the drop zone all season...

As a matter of interest does anyone else know who was on the managerial shortlist before Powell was appointed? Lennon and Pressley certainly two..

"You buy your tickets, we give you palpitations"

I think we need someone at the club who will put a rocket up the players when they screw up. The number of times we fall asleep at the beginning, end and right after we score in games is amateurish at best. We throw away points like confetti.
To think we were in 12th place a few games ago it is shocking how no one seems to care when the next win is going to come. I think we will be safe this season but only because there are three or four teams even worse, not because we are in any way competent, professional, or capable of putting in the required effort on a regular basis.
I don't think it's all Powells fault but I do think he needs to start bollocking players when they do stupid shit over and over. Far too nicey nicey in my opinion.

Patience is all well and good if you an see a pattern of play or a way forward, losing 2 nil at home to a team in worse form than us with 10 men. What's the excuse ?

I really don't get it. Today, We batter a side, but lose. it's unlucky. Tuesday night, we lose the lead with a few seconds to go. In no way can you argue that the games were boring and negative, but this board is full of people saying that's what Powell's tactics are. And certainly with the exception of Rotherham is not my perception of any games I have seen this year. (We have scored more goals than ahh other team in the lower half of the table, hire its that a negative style of play?)
the points were lost in the last two games due to the players on the pitch, not the manager ( who, by the way has only bought one player in this squad)

According to press reports Chris Powell is on a rolling contract so, presumably, it wouldn't cost the club a great deal if he left. That, and the fact that he hasn't yet started to bring in the players he really wants, would suggest that the chairman will have a cost effective opportunity at the end of the season to reevaluate the situation before opening the cheque book for close season signings. It wouldn't surprise me if he's not next seasons manager.
Personally his post match talk and demeanor during the game does not enthuse me. I don't know what it does for the players? Perhaps that's why they don't seem fired up for the first 5 minutes of some games?

If we get rid of Powell why dont we look for an ex international defender to help sort out our defensive mess....oh hang on a minute Clark couldn't sort the midfield With Robins we didn't have much going forwards With Powell we can't defend I say we go for an ex-player who spent most of his time on the bench so the 1st XI will function properly.

Fred, I think most folk get that if we carry this form into next season we're in trouble. No-one can predict the future though, it's just as conceivable that we could make 2-3 decent additions in the summer that solve defensive problems and give us a consistent backbone of the team that we do a Brentford or a Burnley...
As much as Bournemouth have supposedly forked out I don't think any of their supporters could have dreamt about the position they'd be in at this stage of the season. Not so long back they were losing in a p/o semi-final to some unfashionable Yorkshire club...

Their keeper man of the match by a country mile. Their manager acknowledging we were 'far & away the better' team. All this & people are still babbling on about negative tactics! You just couldn't make up some of the shit that get's posted on here.

My only possible criticism of Powell yesterday would have to be what was said before the players went out for them to start the game like they did.
Within 1 minute we had
Lost possession by poor communication on the park
Given away a stupid free kick
Failed to defend a basic corner.
It was as though the players were on holiday already. They didn't look up for it and only going 0-1 down so early seemed to spring them into life.
Have to say after that, we were mightily unlucky but you have to take chances and Powell can;t be blamed for that. The players let him down
Thats 1 minute at the end of Tuesday night and 1 minute at the start of yesterday that have cost us a minimum of 3 points and probably 5 and most importantly guaranteed safety

The towels are on the deckchairs folks, happened last season.... why have we had a slump around this time during each season in our time in the championship ? a month ago we were up to 12th and its the inability to kick on at this time of the year thats most worrying. It has been better on a performance level last 2 but if we rely on luck then its always gonna be shit.....we will survive again but simply need better players for next season if we are to avoid 3/4 season slumps

Cultural revolution needed at this club. Either go all out for this "passion" thing that many burble on about (which apparently means shouting alot) and risk someone who might challenge Lord Hoyle a bit. Or a full on batten down the hatches FU this is the way we're going to do things (a bit like the talk around Clark and Robins). Fallin between too many stools at the moment, very directionless and woolly. This whole shutting up shop in March thing is a very dangerous game to play.
And all you Championship Manager players, I don't think changing our manager every season is really the answer - surely that's what the evidence since Hoyle proves?

Agree with this, we've been fortunate that we've had a decent points total in Jan - Feb and have never had any real pressure to have to get wins on the board. Come a time when we may have to go on a run to stay up we will be doomed as no doubt yet again we won't have strengthened in January and will be waiting for another summer to clear out the latest batch of 'deadwood' before we sign the next batch of 'deadwood'.

I believe Powell came in on promise to keep us in the championship with a minimum expenditure. He is loooking likely to succeed. His succeess is looking likely to be reflected in season ticket sales. He is relying heavily on the loyalty of hard core Town fans.We cannot expect to improve with rejects from Blackpool, Birmiingham etc. He did not have a clue how to organise a team to play against 10 men..They ar obviously going to play deffensively. We need to get the ball quickly to players who can get behind the Fulham defence.playing into space. I do not believe playing all yor forwards does not help in this regard. Do the honourable thing Powell and ggive someone else a chance. Please, ?

Got to say I don't think Powell is the right man but can you imagine if we'd have got Pressley, we'd be jostling with Blackpool for 23rd place!

Ok we played wellish yesterday, had plenty of possession, plenty of chances, 2 pens and played against 10 men for the last half hour and still manage to end up losing, yesterday was embarrassing if you ask me.

rocky..
at some point you look at relegation, nothing crowds and more seasons in the first division, you also talk in the pub a lot about 'ifs and maybe's'.
town need sorting now, no ifs or maybes, because it might be a lot closer than people were 'announcing' a week or 2 ago..
I didn't believe we were out of the scrap then, I don't now..

I see he's choosing to ignore that their manager also said it was the worst they had played all season. Rocky will turn that in to we made them look poor...perhaps so. I'd like to have seen how that game would have played out had they not be decimated by injuries/suspension Powell has a 28% win ratio during his time in the Championship. Yesterday wasn't just one of those days, he just isn't that capable of getting wins at this level. Whether that is because he has been in charge of two average sides i'm not so sure What I do know is that in his 32 games in charge of Charlton last season he managed 6 wins. In their remaining 14 games following his departure they picked up 7 wins But then he did do a cracking job of getting them promoted with over 100 points. Was that purely good management or mainly due to Charlton being too big for that level and having a good squad? Is Powell the best we can do? I'd like to think not

Well, I didn't ask you! Embarrassing? What was? If you're talking about the performance, then you're never going to be satisfied. You know as well as I do that 99 times out of 100, we would have won yesterday. It just happened that everything went right for Fulham on the day & everything went wrong for Town. I don't know what's so difficult to understand about the concept of 'you don't always get what you deserve'!

I didn't believe we were out of the scrap then, I don't now.. Couldn't agree more. Been saying the same thing for ages. All this 'we're safe' bollocks is just that - bollocks. My post was about the events of yesterday, not our overall position. I happen to think that relegation would be a disaster & have called for loan signings to increase the pitifully few options that CP has. I don't like the club talking about the Championship next season. First things first - do everything possible to make sure we're in it.

nothing went wrong for town..we let in a soft goal early doors..we then got all the big decisions but failed to take advantage of them.. keepers make saves and defenders defend.. we failed to be good enough to negate both.. on another day playing the same and doing the same things, we lose 0-2 again..
