As I was walking up Leeds Road on my way to the station after the game, he passed me at the Gas Club on his way back in.

He was average yesterday. Wouldn't say he played well when him not closing a player down cost us at least 1 goal!

Good player and I think he's been too severely maligned by many this season. Had a big positive impact initially, when his partnership with lynch was excellent - yes his lack of pace is a worry at times, and aerially he hasn't been as dominant as hoped for..........but we need a new recruit to put pressure in him and lynch in the summer not to simply replace him. Wallace ain't good enough, Gerrard has now gone and we need a combo of a young lad stepping up and a new recruit to fill the void. With that and a sprinkling of 3/4 further additions the future could look decent.

As you say, a younger new recruit is required for the position.

If he'd have closed him down, tried to tackle and failed, it would've been better than backing off to let him have a free shot at goal.

If it was me I'd sell him this summer to get some money back and reinvest in someone better. Was hoping he'd come in and sort out or defencive problems but somehow its worse than the last 2 seasons. Seems like an alright guy and he is the captain, but replacing him might help our goals against tally look a little more respectable next season.

The Derby fans on the front row had actually parted and emptied a seat for Hudson. My problem was that Ince didn't have to do anything just run forward until he got close enough for a pretty simple finish, the least Hudson should've done is make Ince work for the opportunity and I actually wouldn't have had a problem with him just wiping him out.
I'm not convinced by him, I initially thought he'd be a really good signing but our goals against column says it all and when it's generally perceived that Smithies, Lynch, Robinson/Reece have done well this season it could mean we need to step up the quality of the other 2.

Far too many goals conceded this season. A new left back alone won't fix that. Maybe we do need better than hudson?

I've never seen anyone run backwards as fast as Hudson yesterday. What was going through his mind? At what point did he intend making a tackle, if at all? I find it hard to believe an experienced defender would react to the situation in such a dumb way. If he had tried to make a tackle or interception soon after Ince received the ball, then at least it would have delayed Ince for a fraction of a second and given the other defenders a few more yards in which to try to stop him. As a last resort many defenders would have given away a professional foul but to allow Ince to keep running at the goal was criminal. We all know what a great shot that man has in his locker.
Come on Hudson and give us an explanation for your actions, after all I may be talking bullshit. At least then I may be able to get a good night's sleep whereas last night was one long nightmare. Apart from that and the disallowed goals it was probably the most enjoyable match this season. Can't believe the improvement in Gobern. I always thought he was the pits. Perhaps it's confidence given to him by Powell together with more minutes on the pitch.

We need a bloody good central defender alongside a more consistent Lynch plus two new fullbacks (James could be one of them). Hudson & Smith, whilst having the odd good game here & there, aren't up to it if we want to have a solid defence.

we just need a change in attitude about defending...wether you can get Hudson and lynch to change their habits is arguable..
you can back off in wide areas, you cant right down the middle..gotta go and play where the ball is..

Hardly any players go for a fee at the level he's at now. That's not a dig at him, you just rarely seem to see transfer fees away from really sought after players nowadays. I reckon the reason he'd end up leaving is if Powell tells him he won't be a regular and he wants to be starting at this stage of his career.

He has good games and poor games, with experience he will hopefully get more consistent. We need someone else to push him, and someone to replace Hudson. Ideally the Hudson of 5 years ago.

We've bought more donkeys this season than you'll find walking on the sands at Blackpool - Hudson, Edgar & Smith etc.

Hudsons been a good championship player in his time, but IMO hes gone physically. Must be the slowest player Ive ever seen in a town shirt, and that includes Boothy in his last throws and the springs in his legs have completely gone- not great for a centre back. The only positive perhaps is that Lynch has had to step up his game to make up for him ( which he has done impressively) so in a roundabout way Hudson has brought the best out of Lynch. But new centre back should be one of our summer priorities IMO.

They retreated to the edge of the box for the first goal as well albeit less emphatically. All four goals were sloppy to be fair. The middle two trickled over the line. Not sure if the keeper should be doing better...

Not sure if the keeper should be doing better... Rate Smithies a lot but reckon he'll think he should have saved the third. Wasn't that well struck and having seen it again surprised AS couldn't get a hand to it. Don't think he had a chance with the other 3.

Is Hudson better than Peter Clarke? I think they have both been excellent in their time unfortunately age catches up with us all, its just a a little more noticeable when your a professional footballer. Hudson has not had a bad season overall but I think Powell will be looking for a central defender in the summer and Hudson will probably be going down in the pecking order.

Long term would Coady be worth a go next to Lynch or would that be a waste? I have been saying this for a while now. Would like to see him and Lynch get a game together as I think they could be a pretty decent partnership. Don't think it'll happen though so a new CB is a priority for me.
