33 year old midfielder, just what we don't need.

Plays 32 times for Championship Play Off Finalists, can cover midfield or right back - but "not good enough for us" Yeah, let's bring Edgar back instead

Alan Nixon's reporting that Bury will sign Peter Clarke from Blackpool on a free. Great signing for them... Called it

He's just not what we need. So we don't need right back cover? We have 1 option there right now. Yeah, we have other areas, such as left back where we have none, so are a priority. A Centre Back would also be nice. However, we will no doubt look to build the squad with versatile players who can cover a couple of positions. So I would say ideally we do need extra Right Back cover. If Gobern does not re-sign we also need midfield cover. Decent quality, versatile players are what we need - not saying Whitehead is that person or not but could understand the logic.

Yes we do need right back cover, just not somebody who's second position is right back. And seen as Powell said we are only bringing in 2/3 players I'd say centre mid is not somewhere we need to be looking.

With Gobern probably going we need another midfielder in and I this is exactly the type of player Powell has intimated at bringing in. He doesn't seem the type of manager to go for unproven lower League players.

I'd take him, decent back up - even if he isn't used much his experience would be very welcome!

Signing players (especially 33 year-old ones, decent as they may have been in their time) expressly for cover or backup or to fill the squad out isn't really how I'd go about using our summer budget to be honest. If you make signings to improve the first team you do all that organically whilst also progressing. Plus there's the academy lads to consider, surely Billing must be about ready to play more of a role now? He didn't look far off a year ago.

I was never that impressed with him when he was at his peak either. Hogg, Gobern + young lads fighting for the 3rd midfield slot will do me. If Oscar goes then I'd be happy for the young lads to be vying for the third slot - we can always bring in an experienced Poyet type midfielder on loan if the need arises but we don't want to be clogging up the wage bill (or the never now mentioned pipeline) with Whitehead. The only people we need to spend good money on are those who might put a current first teamer on the bench.

we really cant afford good wages on the bench..its just how it is..
lot of talk about depth of squads etc, paying good wages to bit part players or players 'when neccessary' cant be done at town whilst we have this desire to be financially sound in the future..
might have to trust that 3/4 of the kids are good enough to take those bench places and be up to it as and when needed..

Oh yeah I agree, was just saying - although I wouldn't be totally against it providing he just does his job and doesn't interfere. His contacts in the game would be useful. EDIT - Its someone who's currently employed.
