Examiner saying deal for Mcgugan unlikely because of high wage demands. This is where it gets frustrating. I'm very grateful that we are run the way we are and not like them down the road but we have just received a huge profit on a key player. It now needs investing in another key player. Wednesday fans raved about McGugan last year and we all know he is a massive talent who can score from anywhere. He would add a lot to this team and it's frustrating that we keep getting linked to decent players but refuse to commit financially. We cant keep unearthing gems forever. We need to invest in 1 or 2 strong experienced championship players of we have ambitions of being a consistent top 12 side.

Don't know much about him. Wasn't his dad Barry a boxer?

Alan Nixon @reluctantnicko 39m39 minutes ago HUDDERSFIELD. To avoid questions ... McGugan is too dear, might have a chance of price dropped a lot. Pilkington is way too dear. Full stop.

Must be wages that is the problem with McGugan, because surely the quoted 500k isn't out of our price range?

I've always rated and liked McGugan, was an excellent player a few years ago and scores some absolute screamers, but I would be surprised if we were in for him because he's the same sort of player as Majewski and Powell doesn't really play with a CAM.

Graham Carey (remember him?) just signed for Plymouth apparently. Just thought I'd beat nick to it!

Leeds after Steve Sidwell from Stoke now. Wouldn't be a bad signing for them.

Examiner know as much as me about his wage demands so they're only guessing Also you'd have to wonder how we didnt have an idea wage demands from the beginning... If the rumours are true and fees are being discussed... usually the players agent will be sounded out first

The Examiner probably wouldn't have even mentioned it if they hadn't read about on here first.

He's going to cost good money, on good wages.

Would we really need McGugan? Assuming he plays the attacking role that Butterfield does/should play, of course. It's the Coady/Gobern-type role we need to replace.

Regarding McGugan - Nixon also says he's out of Sheffield Wednesday's price range.. and didn't they just get taken over by a billionaire who said he wanted them back in the premier league within a few years?
That kind of says it all about his fee/wages, in case the "no ambition" boys start creeping out to bash on the club.

that comment will give the "NO AMBITION" gang a load of ammunition to bang away on their keyboards Or we can look at it saying that we're not looking at expensive players with high wages, but only finding gems, which is surely a better tactic? Is that a better option though? Because we don't find them very often. I'd much rather we sign one or 2 that have been there and done it in the championship than hoping someone we've never heard of can step up and do well

The kind of transfer business being done and the players way out of our price range are reinforcing my thinking that we are going to be really up against it this season. I'll be happy just to stay up this season personally, even so called lesser teams are spending decent money.
Im fine with the way the club is being run as I don't expect the chairman to throw his cash at the job season after season but we are increasingly going to more and more have to live up to his request for the club to 'punch above its weight' just to stay up. I hope I'm wrong but to me talk of the squad we have finishing mid table and above is pie in the sky !!!
