Maybe it's because I was younger, but all the best/worst are from when I first started watching Town. We had some great cup games back then (Forest, Blackburn, Sunderland, Man City, Arsenal). Carlisle in the Autoglass, home and away. Peterborough in 1991 definitely the worst. Blackpool at home in the cup as well. Who was it (Barnet, Chester?) who we lost 2-0 at home to, when they'd not won away for months? Think we only had 4,000 for that one. Barnet. Yes - Warnocks first season.

Another bad one - away at Fulham under Bruce where we could have forced our way into a playoff position but we didn't turn up, Lee Clark scored twice for them. Only thing good about it was the weather. Think we lost at home to Stockport in the game before this, which would have seen us in the Play Offs that season (had we won). I remember thinking we'd blown it already after this game...

Worst - can't choose between Peterborough 1992, Birmingham 2001 and Barnsley 2006. All shockingly bad days to be a Town fan. Best - the two Lincoln play off games and the Mansfield final in 2004 stick in the mind. This seems like a forgotten disappointment - and it was an abject evening.

Boothy's farewell against Brighton & at Orient was special.
The anti climax at Old Trafford after selecting the right team in dropping the most prolific hitman we are likely to ever see & subsequently getting our arse handed to us still irks.

Brentford play off semis, still get goosebumps when I hear Runaway on the radio. Carlisle in Autoglass runs it a close second. (both games)
Worst?? Probably Peterborough play off semi, just lost and got back to car to find that had been broken into, bar stewards!!!

Best - All 3 playoff final wins, the narrow defeat at Arsenal, 6-0 at Stockport, 3-0 at Bury Worst - OT defeat to Posh was crushing, as was the home playoff defeat to Barnsley

5 BEST AND 5 WORST IN MY 53 YEARS FOLLOWING TOWN
Worst - Watching the old town ground being demolished Worst- Relegation v Birmingham under Bruce especially as what followed was so nearly the beginning of the end of the club . Worst - Play off final v Peterborough at Old Trafford especially as expectations were high in front of our amazing 31,000 following. Worst - Defeat v Swansea at Wembley in the F L T Final. Worst - Those well publicised away thumping defeats
Best game ever witnessed - Town v West Ham 4-2 win F A Cup 1972 ( PRICELESS ENTERTAINMENT )
Best moments- All three play off final wins v Bristol Rovers ,Mansfield and Sheff Utd . Best moments- Town gaining promotion at Middlesboro to the top flight" which is same standard as todays Premier league. Remember many town players and fans dancing on the tables in the pub afterwards. Best sporting moment - Sheff Utd team coming over to applaud town fans at the end of the wembley play off final. Best vocal town support - Man Utd v Town early 70s. Was reported at the time that this was the only time that the Stretford end have been out sung by opposition fans. Must have been over 15,000 town fans in the ground, and was a deafening noise that still rings in my ears today.

Worst by a country mile was the Old Trafford defeat. Seeing all those town fans pour into the stadium in the build up was a proud moment. Then finding out that JR on the bench and it was downhill all the way. Gutted to fook doesn't even come close.
Best.......the end of season run in for the Div 4 title under Mick Buxton. 100 goals, catching Walsall etc. The team just seemed unbeatable.

Best = 1st night match at Leeds Rd when I was 7/8 at the time. We played Southampton. Best = Beating West Ham 4 - 2 in the FA Cup 4th round. Remember thinking (as a kid) how big the West Ham GK was and how we would never score past him. Best = Autoglass Trophy Final, never thought I would see Town at Wembley. Stood crying my eyes out singing the national anthem. Best = Brentford Penalty Shoot Out Best = Cardiff Play Off Final Best = Sheff Utd Penalty Shoot Out at Wembley
So many good memories, they far out weigh the bad ones. UTT.
Best = still to come, Watching Town in the Premier League

West Hams keeper was Bobby Ferguson.

Chris Turner. Manager of the Posh 1991 side, died a week or so ago . . . and Steve Cooper, who scored the winning goal (in 1992 btw), died in 2004 at only 39 years old.

People are still putting that loss down to Rhodes not starting? ? People have the benefit of hindsight. The one up top had been extremely successful for Town in the run up to the final. Rhodes was not in any form like he came back with the season later and that Posh strike force would have raped us alot earlier then the 76th minute when the onslaught started, just my opinion, we will never know. That was a sh*te day from start to finish, from the minute we got to Manchester. Birmingham relegation though hurt alot more. Beating Sheff Utd probably tips either Mansfield or Bristol Rovers finals due to the emotional roller coaster of the shootout and the failed promtion attempts that had come before.

Has nobody mentioned the 1-10 horror show yet? Malcolm MacDonald's finest hour. God I took some stick at work the week after that. Strange to say this but one good moment came in adversity. Middlesbrough away in the league cup we took an absolute hammering but when Andy Payton scored we gave them a blast of "you're not singing anymore" and the home fans voted us best away support of the season.

First of many awful moments supporting Town... last home game of 65/66. They had to beat Coventry to stand a chance of promotion to the top flight (and hope that Man city lost to Southampton). Of course typical Town - lost 0-2 in front of Match of the Day cameras just so we could relive the agony again later that evening. This was in the days when Match of the Day only showed one match.
Next one was dropping into the 3rd tier for the first time in our history in 1973. Gutted again, although it was a slow death that one so overall not as devastating as 'instant' one-off defeats. From memory I think we had to wait for another team to play before it was confirmed (Cardiff?)
The two that were the absolute worst were as many others have said, the two Peterborough defeats. Felt totally numb for days after both those. probably because of high expectations.
Several 'best' moments but generally mentioned by many others. The play-off wins (obvious) and victories at Elland Road (esp. the Dave Cowling one!)
Particular mention also goes to... Town 2 Hartlepool 1 to score 101 goals and clinch 4th div championship against the odds after playing 2nd fiddle most of the season to Walsall. That will stay with me forever.

Little bit of trivia for you . A season or two before we scored 101 , another team won the 4th div with 111 (i think) . Who were the team ?

Best...all 3 play off finals we won, Autoglass final even though we lost it put us back on the map and galvinised the club as a whole, the new stadium, Neil Warnock 1994/95, the Manchester City FA Cup marathon the 2-2 draw being the best massive crowd top atmosphere, Lincoln play off home, Bournemouth play off home leg, 1st season back at this level in 95/96, Birmingham City FA Cup win ok not a massive scalp but they were top flight and we were 2 divisions below, all wins at Elland Road, Forest 3-3.
Worst...Old Trafford I have never felt so deflated after a Town game than I did that day, Peterborough 91/92, 1987/88 season, all other relegations, any defeat against Leeds

Only thing good about it was the weather. Oh no, not another Lee Clark thread I don't even remember the Clark goals, the standout one was Golbaek lashing one in the top corner with swerve on it from about 25 yards out. Remember Bruce not wanting to look at the fans in the away section as the team trudged off at the end.
