I hope Town allow Joe Murphy to move on for first team football then have Allinson or Wilczynski as backup to Smithies rather than sign this Brian Murphy guy.

i do with town willing to let murphy go so he can play ist team football. I can definitely see J Murphy leaving, but B Murphy has played 2 games in 4 years, and is arguably a poor backup for Smithies? I may be wrong. My bet is that we're just letting him train with us.

Brian Murphy cropped up as a retired centurion collecting for his colleagues in an episode of Plebs Series 1. Hilarious! (If you've never seen this comedy, try it now; just moved from ITV2 to ITV1 and showing from the start just this week. Well worth it.)

So, let me get this right - we have a development squad with more keepers than you can shake a stick at, and yet.........we need to sign an "EXPERIENCED" Keeper?
Hmmmmmmmmm

only reason i could see this is as as cheap option, with joe murphy leaving for first team football, and allinson and wilcynski sent out on season long loans....allinson really needs one in all fairness

We've got Allinson, Wilz, Guthrie and possibly another(?) on pro contracts in the development squad. Let one of those sit on the bench.

Obviously his trial at Town didn't work out. Has now left the club according to theTown website. Personally think Town should offload Joe Murphy as well and move Allinson or Wilczynski to the bench.

He's just passing through. Here in case Smithies needed pre season paternity leave and he has signed for someone else. We can consign him to memory and forget about him now.

Can't see us signing a new 2nd choice keeper. Its a wage that we don't need to be paying. When Allinson looked like he would play against Leeds last season powell said he had not issue with picking him ( though he went on to play the half fit Murphy instead)
On the off chance smithies was out for a length of time and Powell wasn't telling the truth about his faith in allinson, then we could just get an emergency loan couldn't we?

No substitute for experience, expect Allinson to be out on loan shortly.

Suppose it would be good if it means we can send Allinson on loan to get some game time.

Allinson will be 22 in September. If he isn't good enough to be a back up keeper at that age, then you have to question if hes ever going to make it at all. Thats 4 years older than smithies was when he cemented his starting place! Ed Wilczynski will be 21 in November too so again much older than Smithies was, so between the two of them we shouldn't need Murphy ( either of them) and could take the opportunity to save on his wages.
