I don't understand why the number of season cards we've sold has to be such a big secret! What's wrong with celebrating how many we've actually sold and create a feel good, let's join the party factor to encourage those who are/were undecided. By all means have a cutoff for the reduced prices but turning the whole thing into a guessing game as a marketing incentive seems pretty pointless to me. Just saying like! I think at first it worked really well, but there had to be a change of tack somewhere along the way so that people were instead marketed to join something big; the FOMO approach. No number update in 4 1/2 months, that's what would have been the biggest incentiviser as the offer progressed. We know the same thing we did on day 1, nothing new to incentivise it. A periodical number count would have been that fresh news to re-market.

It just makes no sense to keep the figure quiet if we HAVE exceeded it. Take the Liverpool game for example, we shifted about 4-5000 in the last few days because the club announced the high sales and folk either panic bought, or felt that they wanted to be part of something big. I love Jarvis but I can't help but feel this plea approach is totally wrong. Doesn't create excitement at all. That said, if we are indeed under 15k still, then I don't know what I'd suggest.

Can't work out the strategy either...if we've sold well over 15,000, and then make a big announcement that (say) we've sold 16,000..and the offer then ends...that isn't going to incentivise anyone to want to suddenly buy a SC to be 'part of it'. If however we've not reached the 15,000 then I guess keeping schtum about it is what I'd do.

Announcing 11k after four days was a massive plus. Should have done another a week later, put a spin on it even, but if people can see that number moving they want to be a part of it. They don't want to miss out. Something's happening and people are getting involved and I need to too. If I wasn't fussed about a season card on day one when the offer was launched, apart from the first exciting 11k after four days news, there has been nothing new to change my mind. You could say signings yes, but people need something stronger and visceral, a real risk of missing out on what your peers are involved in. As Sio says, just look at the furore around the Liverpool match and people getting stressed about tickets. People will panic, people want to be a part, it will shift numbers. It works.

But the marketing campaigns are totally backward for a club who have sold 16-17k SCs

Maybe the club are just trying to squeeze in as many sales as they can?

Possibly we (Town fans) have created the guessing game ourselves but surely that was down to the club not publishing how many cards have been actually sold. I'm probably being pedantic here but I was thinking it might have been more dynamic impact to announce that only have few hundred cards were left (or whatever the actual figure is) and then emphasis the cut-off WILL happen once we've reached 15,000 - Don't miss out etc! However, I actually feel that apart from the odd individual whose financial circumstances are uncertain or fluctuate, that most people who were going to buy a card probably have done by now anyway!

What is it with the obsession of knowing how many tickets, Season Cards or otherwise, we have sold?
Do people ask Tesco how many bread buns or boxes of Cornflakes have been sold today?
If you want one, get one!

If you want one, get one! It's same as all the fan boys clamouring after sales figures for iPhones and Xboxes etc...just part of the whole pantomime. Perfectly normal behaviour, even if it doesn't make sense if you're not that interested yourself. I don't think anyone is a FAN of bread or corn flakes in the same manner.

It's been a problem for over a week now, but they still pay for an advert on TV?

It doesn't seem to add up financially, but you'd assume it's more of a vanity thing and they'll just take the cut from the funny money involved when Sky pay us the handling fee for hosting a live game at some point.

This thread is proof that some people will moan at anything.

I suggest background music for smaller, informal dinner parties..?

This thread is proof that some people will moan at anything. Or it could be that people, some of whom will no doubt work in marketing and do this on a daily basis, are discussing the ins and outs of a strategy the club has taken, and whether it will have the desired effect. By not announcing the numbers, people will only be able to hypothesise as to if it's worked as desired or not. I appreciate a thread on season ticket sales on a forum where people offer their subjective opinion on things related to HTAFC might not be the best place. We'll try harder in future.
