15 August 1970 Blackpool H 3–0 Smith (2), Worthington (pen) 22,787 Will take some beating. Unfortunately, neither the wife or myself, my mother or father, or my brother can make it on Saturday, but will be counted in the 'attendance' Daft. Don't think of it as a crowd figure, or a season ticket for that matter. Think of it as investing in the club, something that you've done with 15,023 other fans of Town. If it makes you feel better view it as a seat reservation premium I know what you're saying, but 22,787 actually turned up on that hot August afternoon in 1970. Including my father and I.

What is our highest opening day attendance by the way? Whatever our attendance is on Saturday it will include an extra 1500 match tickets bought for Brentford and 1000 travelling supporters, all according to Julian Winter last night on RL. 15 August 1970 Blackpool H 3–0 Smith (2), Worthington (pen) 22,787 Will take some beating. Unfortunately, neither the wife or myself, my mother or father, or my brother can make it on Saturday, but will be counted in the 'attendance' Daft. Its actually 35,793 v Blackpool at Leeds Road in 1954, but I assume it means record at John Smiths.

Makes Dean's comments from last week (or the week before) about breaking the season ticket record look a little strange But on the flip-side, demonstrates the integrity at the club, in terms of many suggesting they were lying about the 15k barrier not being surpassed.

When we look at the number of Season Tickets sold i think we also need to take into account that there are people out there who come to matches on a reasonably regular basis and simply (for one reason or another) do not buy a Season Ticket and prefer to pay as they go along. And with Cat B games at £20, £15 in FML when available and kids either £5 or £10 I think we will get a reasonable number paying on the day if we are doing ok.

I agree, even though £179 was a fantastic price, for some who can't get to a lot of home games, it just would not make financial sense. I have 3 mates who were so tempted to get a season card but in the end could not justify buying one for the above reason. One lad is away on business most weeks. Yes he's home at weekends but does not feel it's right to bugger off to watch football all the time when he could be having some precious family time with wife and kids. He'll pick and choose when to go and pay on the gate. Another lad is no longer with his wife, so alternate weekends he has his children (2 little girls). They have no interest in football so will not take them to the match. He could leave them with Grandma but again feels it's not right as time with them is precious, so he will pick and choose and pay on the gate. The third mate puts his children before himself and spends a lot of Saturday's ferrying his lad to U9's on a Morning and in the afternoon taking his girl to Gymnastics competitions. He'll go to weekday night matches but will only go to the odd Saturday afternoon match when he can, so he will pay on the gate. That is 3 examples of why people will not buy a season card, but will pay on the gate every now and then. Then there are mates that can not afford £179. Like many people in Huddersfield and let's be honest it's not a well off Town with virtually no industry left and jobs at a premium, It's a choice of football or pay bills and put food on the table. It's a no brainier for them. Food and the roof over their families head comes first. They will go when they can afford. I've mates that support the Giants and Town but can't afford both, but as RL is their number one love, they prioritise the Giants and will watch a Town as and when. These situations will be replicated time and time again across Huddersfield. In my opinion, we have done fantasticly well to sell 15000 S/C's and with all the pick and choosers, our gates should be healthy over the season.

Are people in the executive boxes - potentially around 400 people included on attendance figures. Equally the members of The white rose club that sit in the middle section of the riverside upper & some in the directors box? Potentially another 500 or so. I was told that if you do not enter the ground through a turnstile the club are not obliged to register you on the official attendance but it`s entirely possible this is not true.

Perhaps the record numbers might be regarding the monetary intake.

Sorry, youre wrong. If i had not been in work or on 7.50 per hour i would not have £179, and no sc.(and maybe not a good enough credit rating). There is more to life than football What you have said doesn't even contradict my post! You are working, so what's your point. The next is I also don't knock anyone if they're not that bothered (they prefer to do other things in life), I say that's they're prerogative. Besides, isn't it £179 spread over a number months if you join the relevant scheme. Point is the recession will effect spending decisions and not everyone has a credit rating that will pass the criteria for 1 of the schemes.

I wonder how, if at all, half season tickets are factored into previous years totals and it will be interesting to see what promo will be done this time around. I guess it will depend how were doing but I'm sure they notoriously shift a few as Christmas presents etc.. so hopefully will give the overall bums on seats a healthy boost in the second half of the campaign.
