Centre backs are never going to take a team to the next level Why? It's a key position. It is indeed, but its unlikely a centre back could make so much difference on his own that he gets you promoted. Not in the same way an exceptional striker can ( Rhodes 2011/12 for example)

Local move, no need to relocate, choice between two similar teams, I can see his reasoning.

Go on then I will say it... How are we losing out on players to the likes of PNE ; )

I suspect artysid's comments are spot on. Nothing to get upset about.

I couldn't give two hoots about it. I just thought I would get it on the thread first before the real moaners.

if he doesn't want to come to town, why should we be disappointed? better that than have him here wanting to be somewhere else.

Not in the same way an exceptional striker can ( Rhodes 2011/12 for example) I understand your point now. If we had a CB that was as good as JR instead of actually having JR, we probably wouldn't have been promoted in 2012. That said it's rare for a 1-man team to be promoted full stop. The other sides that went up with us that year didn't have one exceptional striker, they had better all round teams than us. Usually it's a strong all round team that succeeds.

Disappointed to miss out on Maxwell. I can't say I know too much about him but reading around he looked promising.
Still, 1st choice at the club that finished 11th vs fighting it out for a jersey at the club that finished 19th makes sense.

BBC says they're without a 1st choice after Lindegaard loan ended & Kirkland released, so I was going from that. Judging by his interview on their page though he is talking about having to fight for a place, suggesting they'll be bringing in another GK. www.pnefc.net/news/article/maxwell-i-want-to-be-number-one-3115177.aspxOne line stood out for me. Apparently PNE are " the biggest club in Lancashire ". Odd.

btw, if i was 'building' a team the 2 centre backs would be my first concern.. You can be looking at several positions at the same time you know. Negotiations will be on-going for each target and they'll sign when that get's sorted. Besides we've already signed one new CB and now have 4 senior CBs. Think you'll be lucky to get one more never mind two.

I still wonder if we would have kept Smithies had Derby come in earlier with a proper deal for Butterfield and we took the money to bring in a couple of other players
