I lost faith in Australia when they sent Jason Davidson over but they've restored some faith with Mooy.

I feel truly embarrassed for both Davidson and some Aussie posts but with some luck all that will be forgotten if Aaron continues to improve and the wins keep coming. From a long way away something special is happening. Enjoy.

From a long way away something special is happening. Enjoy. Mooy has more than made up for Davidson. Davidson looked a good deal at the time of his signing having played through the World Cup. We had a former England international full back as manager at the time who you would think would be able to spot a good one, but I guess his scouting methods were as poor as his training methods.

Hi lads...another pesky Aussie joining in on your forum. However you can rest assured I will not be emulating other contributors in telling DW where to play Mooy...I think the results speak for themselves so far. Just wanted you to realise how many new supporters the Terriers now have down under...doubtless the biggest Oz supporter base in the Championship as a result of Aaron's move. I don't follow the much maligned A-League that closely, but it was just over a year ago when Mooy started playing for our National team that I stood up and took notice..a class act that took the rise in standard in his stride and became our best player almost overnight.

I'd still like to hear the storey of how we lucked in to him and when. I guess that spot was earmarked for Billing or big Ivan in the planning for this season - and then along comes Mooy.
Suppose the main thing for Aussie to worry about is does Championship football improve him - or does he get shagged out? Apart from quiet spots usually at the start of second halves he seems to be coping pretty well physically.
I often get the impression he is pacing himself through a game but maybe that's just his languid style.

And I shall be going to the Australian - Japan game which should be a cracker. It will be interesting to see where Ange plays him on the night. Hopefully you will be able to watch the game in England. cheers Peter Ange will play him in the same role as he plays at Huddersfield. We have good attacking midfielders in Rogic and Kruse. No he won't. Milligan (hopefully not Jedinak) will sit in as the 6. Rogic and Mooy will play as twin 8's, driving forward looking to penetrate. Kruse if he plays, will be wide left, otherwise Luongo and Leckie will be the side men, though tucked in. Sorry to say it again good folks of Huddersfield, but Mooy's best position is in a more advanced role where he can take the ball from defence if he chooses, AND drive at opponents. He has a great goals and assists return over recent seasons. Contrary to popular belief you don't need to be pacey, strong or good back to goal, to be able to play as advanced midfield role. You need to be able to choose when and where to play a pass, and have that rare ability to find space between the lines, asked with the talent to play the pass. Mooy has all of these in his locker. How do I know? Because I have seen every game for club and country over the last 4 seasons. 2 of those seasons were spent as a 6 /8 role, 2 as an 8/10 attacking role. In the latter 2 he was the much more effective. Again I'm not an Aussie suggesting he be moved at the moment. Later in the season when the results aren't coming, this is the time. And you'll all nod your heads wisely and say "those bloody Aussies were right after all" As a side note, I'm sure it's mentioned elsewhere on this fine forum, but your lack of goals is a long term concern. 14 in 11 is it? This return won't keep up the same points return as the season goes along. 1-0's soon become 0-0's etc. Are you creating chances and missing, or taking the few chances you are creating? If it's the latter you know what the solution is!!

He played in an advanced role in the first half against Ipswich and didn't look his usual self, couldn't control the tempo of the game & dictate the play like he can deeper, and soon got dropped, even if YOUR opinion is that he's better advanced, you have to remember teams play different systems & for us we look much more a threat with a quick, agile 10 like Palmer running at players & Mooy deeper spraying passes across the pitch

Seriously, though I love this new found enthusiasm for The Town. I thought I was alone over here.

Those who play in it rate it very well eg Neil Kilkenny rates the style of play highly(er) in comparison to England. City's new signing Jacobson says from what he's seen its as good if not better than Denmark. The Danes don't consider their league much maligned. Thomas Sorenson echoes that, as did Damian Duff. Robert Koren was a good premier league player who couldn't cut it in the A-League. lost his (attacking mid!) Spot to.... Mooy Sorry for the Aussie talk in here

I've never heard anyone malign it. At least not in the last 5 years or so. Some of the teams are absolutely stacked these days. If anything the problem is the level is too high and not enough young players get a crack. Guys like pasquali (who wrecked athletico and juve) will struggle to get on the park.

Mooy Sorry for the Aussie talk in here Of course it's not a maligned league to those players, they weren't good enough to get a game in England, and suddenly they could. Sorensen sat on a bench for years. Duffs career was about to hit the buffers, with him hardly being picked in a Fulham team that got relegated. Koren played half a season in the Premier League and was pretty rubbish....I doubt most people will even know who he is, I just happen to have a Hull supporting pal. Kilkenny is well known for speaking a load of rubbish! Although the "style of play" may indeed be higher than he was used to, having played most recently in League 1 and half a season at Preston.

We usually have one holding Hogg, one advanced Palmer or Payne, and one free to move forward - at the right time, or as the situation demands. On Saturday, for a half, he played the Palmer/Payne role - only a half but he didn't look very good there, and looked a lot better when the manager moved him back to his normal spot. Palmer and Payne are better equipped for the more advanced role the way we play it - more or less as a second striker.

I'm one of the few Yorkshire lads on here who totally can see Mooy being even better as a 10, I especially love the really clever reverse passes he spilts defences with, but in the few times I've seen him do it our lads are not clever enough to see it coming. Reality dictates that he will stay in the role he is playing now, it's not a totally defensive midfield role, he moves where he wants and he has that uncoachable knack of the ball seemingly being attracted to him, and I love the fact he always wants the ball, regardless of how many men he is surrounded by. Wherever you play him, he is a terrific player, one of the best midfielders I've seen at Town in 40 years, I'm just going to enjoy watching him while we can. As for us creating chances, we play superb attacking football but don't tend to create masses of chances cos, a bit like Arsenal, we tend to want to score the perfect goal and, in reality, we don't shoot enough. We've had less shots than the vast majority of the Championship but the stat that puts us in a good position is that we have now had 10 different scorers, which some teams will probably struggle to match all season and, while we struggle to kill teams off, we seem to be able to step up a gear again if they equalise. It is true though that we have to learn how to kill teams off. Good luck in your world cup campaign, it's great to see so many Aussies takingan interest on here.

I thought the same until I saw him give it a go in the first half at Ipswich. Nahki is particularly weak at spotting them. Mind you thought the same when he was trying to anticipate Butterfield season before last. Nahki tends to dummy the passer!

"Much maligned"? By those who don't watch it, or watch one game and say"it's not as good as Barca or Man City, Chelsea etc". They were comparing the standard relative to the highest they played at. 100 cap internationals. Heskey, Del Piero, Juninho, Shinji Ono all well known players, all say this is a good league. All surprised by the quality. It's not the EPL or Bundesliga but the best sides would cope well in the championship, if you need a reference point.

Thanks for the reply, particularly in terms of chance creation or lack of. The reason I mentioned it was that you typically have promoted teams with a prolific scorer (happy to be corrected) or prolific scoring teams. This goes back to Mooy, and the ability he has to play a killer pass, and score. 20 assists and double figures for goals last season (27 game only) in the top scoring team. As you have spotted, his reverse passes are genius. He played one in the friendly v England that was Zidane-esque, left foot to Robbie Kruse, leaving him one on one. Hopefully you'll learn to kill teams off, but it is a dangerous game, as the margin for error is obviously much smaller. Thanks again for the response, nice to be able to have a mature discussion!
