"Much maligned"? By those who don't watch it, or watch one game and say"it's not as good as Barca or Man City, Chelsea etc". Those who play in it rate it very well eg Neil Kilkenny rates the style of play highly(er) in comparison to England. City's new signing Jacobson says from what he's seen its as good if not better than Denmark. The Danes don't consider their league much maligned. Thomas Sorenson echoes that, as did Damian Duff. Robert Koren was a good premier league player who couldn't cut it in the A-League. lost his (attacking mid!) Spot to.... Mooy Sorry for the Aussie talk in here Of course it's not a maligned league to those players, they weren't good enough to get a game in England, and suddenly they could. Sorensen sat on a bench for years. Duffs career was about to hit the buffers, with him hardly being picked in a Fulham team that got relegated. Koren played half a season in the Premier League and was pretty rubbish....I doubt most people will even know who he is, I just happen to have a Hull supporting pal. Kilkenny is well known for speaking a load of rubbish! Although the "style of play" may indeed be higher than he was used to, having played most recently in League 1 and half a season at Preston. I've watched a season or two with those names live in the A-league Sorenson conceded 3rd most goals in the league, only the bottom and second bottom team concede more. He's far from the best keeper in the league. Duff was cooked after the first 15 minutes of a game. Koren was a total disaster and not up to the A-league, except for one game in 2 years where he score aa hat trick- and was kept out of the team by one up and coming midfielder who went by the name of Aaron Mooy. The quality of A-League games depends on the time of the day they are played. Seriously. Its a summer league. In Australia. Most European players would struggle to play at their usual intensity in 35 C degrees in Melbourne. Night games are fantastic though.

All surprised by the quality. It's not the EPL or Bundesliga but the best sides would cope well in the championship, if you need a reference point. They're ingratiating theirselves, because that's not true,

Human nature, Well the implication was that if Sorenson, Duff and Koren could play in the A-league, then A-league must be poor. Fact is they were poor even in the A-league. The League is only 10 years old, so is getting better all the time. Tactically especially. Our current NT coach showed the way with a team that went undefeated for 30-something games, and was competitive in games against Liverpool in pre-season, of course. If he had Englands NT player talent, my word he could do something special with them.

I'm one of the few Yorkshire lads on here who totally can see Mooy being even better as a 10, I especially love the really clever reverse passes he spilts defences with, but in the few times I've seen him do it our lads are not clever enough to see it coming. Reality dictates that he will stay in the role he is playing now, it's not a totally defensive midfield role, he moves where he wants and he has that uncoachable knack of the ball seemingly being attracted to him, and I love the fact he always wants the ball, regardless of how many men he is surrounded by. Wherever you play him, he is a terrific player, one of the best midfielders I've seen at Town in 40 years, I'm just going to enjoy watching him while we can. As for us creating chances, we play superb attacking football but don't tend to create masses of chances cos, a bit like Arsenal, we tend to want to score the perfect goal and, in reality, we don't shoot enough. We've had less shots than the vast majority of the Championship but the stat that puts us in a good position is that we have now had 10 different scorers, which some teams will probably struggle to match all season and, while we struggle to kill teams off, we seem to be able to step up a gear again if they equalise. It is true though that we have to learn how to kill teams off. Good luck in your world cup campaign, it's great to see so many Aussies takingan interest on here. Thanks for the reply, particularly in terms of chance creation or lack of. The reason I mentioned it was that you typically have promoted teams with a prolific scorer (happy to be corrected) or prolific scoring teams. This goes back to Mooy, and the ability he has to play a killer pass, and score. 20 assists and double figures for goals last season (27 game only) in the top scoring team. As you have spotted, his reverse passes are genius. He played one in the friendly v England that was Zidane-esque, left foot to Robbie Kruse, leaving him one on one. Hopefully you'll learn to kill teams off, but it is a dangerous game, as the margin for error is obviously much smaller. Thanks again for the response, nice to be able to have a mature discussion! So it's a mature discussion if someone agrees with you? Just in reference to one of your points, Cardiff got promoted a few years back with a top scorer on 8. I think we scored more goals than Middlesbrough last year, but they were very tight at the back. Being solid and keeping clean sheets is a proven recipe for promotion in this league. I'd like us to score more goals but I don't think it's critical as long as we keep winning. We have a lot of new players bedding in and I'd expect our fluency to improve, although we don't have anyone really clinical up front. If we had Scott Hogan up front I'd put a large quantity of money on us getting promoted.

I'm not having a pop, as an Australian who finds it hard to see a televised Huddersfield game, I ask these questions hoping to be informed, and to generate discussion. So thanks

So thanks Not sure if you've read the whole thread, but there's been at least five (and possibly closer to ten) Aussies all saying the same thing about pushing Mooy further forward. It's not defensiveness you're picking up, it's exasperation. If we were struggling then there'd be a lot more in favour of pushing him forward, but he is critical to the team where he is and we're absolutely flying at the top of the table. Thanks for the compliment on my last comment. When I want to be patronised on being mature I know where to turn

Should be plenty of streams available, some of them in dodgy languages, but Channel 9 (free to air) as well as Fox are broadcasting the game live in Australia. Here's hoping for a decent performance by the Aussies and a good performance by Aaron Mooy to boot.

We get EVERY game televised here and the Saturday early morning (UK) games are a good time for me. The standard is technically and tactically poor in comparison to the Championship and decent League 1 teams, and is significantly slower and less physical. I do enjoy watching the games as they tend to be reasonably competitive, and I can watch any standard of football, be it u13s, or ladies, as long as it's competitive and not totally one sided.

Hardly. Lets take Mooy's move across. The only thing Aaron has said he's found a challenge with since moving to the Championship -where he has been a standout in the ENTIRE LEAGUE, whilst playing for the top of the table team- is the extra midweek game. Tactically and technically he's at the top the tree here. But he *wasn't* in the A-league: he couldn't get a game when Ono was his team-mate, and players like Carrusca, Broich, Isias, Corona, Ninkovic, Dimitrejevic, Castro are all at or even above Aaron's technical and tactical ability. Not to mention Del Piero, even at 37. Then there was this guy, would walk into any Championship midfield. Against City, Manchester that is: media.giphy.com/media/dW3Ug4ppMfTmE/giphy.gifmedia.giphy.com/media/yLSBbsMT0hLvG/giphy.gifSet up a goal too in that Champions League game.

Nominated for the league-wide POTM in August too, if I remember correctly. For the record, none of the Australians suggesting Mooy play further forward are proposing it out of self-interest. Mooy is more versatile than Rogic (our other best midfielder, who's also best suited to no 10), so he'll usually be the one shifted around to accommodate them both in the national side. It suits us for Mooy to get experience in other positions, but we'd also like to see Huddersfield get the best from him. Best of luck this season - hopefully y'all can continue to flourish

Had a nightmare last night that City recalled Mooy and then immediately loaned him out to AFC Wimbledon!
I woke up and was totally anxious and trying to think through he's good enough for the Prem never mind League 1!
Got back to sleep and was still dreaming this!
Always have weird dreams when am under the weather and coming down with a cold or something! Banging headache and sore throats today and anxious nightmares about Aaron Mooy leaving overnight!

Maybe if Mooy plays his cards right he could earn himself a move back there!!

Let's have a dose of realism please!!!! I've watched some A League and I would say it's on a par with the MLS in America which I have watched a fair bit of and think it's garbage, like watching schools football at times it's so tactically inept, it's actually possible that good players look bad in these leagues as they are a step ahead of their team mates. Watched a few LA Galaxy games with Robbie Keane playing and at times he was stood there just looking confused at what was going on around him. Got no problem with Aussies coming on here asking how Mooy is getting on and stuff, but please don't come on here and try tell us that a league full of has beens and never were's is on a par or better than The Championship!
