I'm an Aussie and I agree the constant calls for mooy to be played further forward is tiresome. If I'm not mistaken he just won the player of the month for Huddersfield? He's obviously going alright in his position. Give it a spell guys. Pretty rich to come to a board barely give a stuff about the club and then bitch and moan that the only player you care about is being misused. Cut us a spell All Aussies should read this before posting , I'll also add please stop talking about the a league, nobody here cares. Perhaps even create an a league thread on this forum, I doubt any body would give a shit. But please stop ruining what was once a good thread.

Agreed I watch a lot of both. There's only a few teams in the championship that even attempt to play decent football whereas every team in the a-league plays possession based proactive football. It's a much better coached league. The championship has better defenders though because the good Aussie ones all go overseas to asia and europe and teams would rather bring in attackers for their foreign spots not defenders. I think this whole argument's getting a bit silly and rather pointless. There's obviously a greater number of decent teams and players in the Championship and thats the end of it as far as I am concerned. Maybe one day when the A League has a greater number of teams in the league they might come close but that's a long long way away. I think us Aussies as guests on this forum also should show a bit more respect to the long standing members of this forum. All the best to Huddersfield Town for the remainder of the season. You don't get real competition without consequence. The whole franchise approach doesn't really work with football, there's nothing to push the standards up from the bottom. Introduce promotion and relegation and being there on merit and things would develop rapidly. Of course, it's incredibly difficult to organise as outside the TV money of the A-League, it would be next to impossible to fund further national leagues successfully, so that means you're probably looking at State leagues...but the gulf in finances generated would make it very difficult to jump from being a team probably watched by 2000 into the top flight. Maybe an approach similar to what the UK Super League are doing might work....establish state leagues (I guess these already exist, underneath the overarching Aus FA banner, so you've got the regulation and governance required), and then have an end of season inter state competition. The tricky bit would then be to introduce the weaker A-League sides into that competition. If you could somehow end up with six state/territory teams and the two worst A-League teams, it might make for an interesting little mini league shootout. Winner goes straight into A-League and 2nd and 3rd play off. Likelihood for years is the A-League teams would retain their status, BUT, it would mean weaker A-League teams would have a chance to get used to winning, thereby improving that standard...and it would give the regional teams something real and tangible to aim for....plus a few dollars in their pockets.

By no means an expert. Ive watched British and European football regularly at all levels since a kid and I've been in oz two years and will watch the a league if it's on telly, in a period where you think it's at its highest standard. Numerous times I've been in a pub with a group of English and Irish lads watching a game last season and everyone's purely taking the piss at how shit it is. Stop kidding yourselves. Go away. Your a league where has beens go and become top players again or one or two out the league might make it into a decent European team. Melbourne victorys squad wouldn't get out the championship. Oh yes we no, you beat juventus second string or who ever it was in a meaningless friendly. I love your city but you lot are on a par with the yanks when it comes to talking 'soccer'. Ive been here long enough to be an expert on that. never mind.. ah what the hell..your coach is part Yank and played for the Yanks at international level...

Probably watch on average 40-60 games a month across most leagues throughout the world. You mean you sit in front of your telly or computer 40-60 times a month when football is on. On average, I go and actually watch football only about 4-6 times a month. You really put me to shame. FWIW it's not about putting anyone to shame. The point of that statement was I just don't watch one league. There are good footballers everywhere on the planet, not just in Europe and most definitely not just in the UK. Along with the fact I can no longer walk limits me to how many games I can go to or distance I can travel. I've said nothing derogatory or untrue about yourself, the championship or Huddersfield so I don't understand the hostility. But hey that's your prerogative. At the end of the day neither league is as good as either set of fan thinks it is.

Nothing personal but I really wish these Non-Town fan Aussies would fuck off. I agree entirely. the next time I see A-League even mentioned I'll tear my fuckin hair out. I've joined this forum because I'm a football nut, because I was interested in Mooy's progress, and, previously not having had a team to follow in the Championship, am already a confirmed Terriers fan who will continue to be so regardless of what may ensue. Best of luck against Sheff Wed, and PLEASE...NO MORE comments about where DW should deploy Mooy!!!!

Interesting quote here from this match which pretty much sums up Aussie footballing philosophy. "2' - Australia has two big lumps up forward tonight, clearly hoping to outmuscle Japan as the Socceroos have historically done well. Juric a little overzealous in his first attempt to move forward, conceding a free kick. Dean Bilton 21 minutes ago" AND ... "24' - Nah, this is no good for Australia. This team needs width much more than it needs two big forwards whose touches have deserted them. Nice idea, but it needs changing. Dean Bilton less than a minute ago"

Aus 1-1 Jap FT Mooy escapes without any injuries, as far as I can surmise.

Dean Bilton less than a minute ago" The manager went for a 442 with a diamond midfield with two target men up front as opposed to the usual 433. He wanted an extra man in the middle against the talented Japanese midfielders. It was a disaster as Mooy, Luongo, Rogic got in each others way. That and the width is supposed to come from the full backs, one of which is actually a CB. Yes poor managing. Oh Mooy was poor in general play, but japan were very good at not giving him time on the ball and anticipated his eye-of-the-needle passes, although his corners were good

The game wasn't set up for mooy n the first half, Mooy was better when dropping to our left hand side enabling him to find more space and link up with smith. 2nd half Mooy and indeed Australia were much better, controlled the middle of the pitch for us and kept us ticking over nicely, was also fouled for the penalty that lead to the goal.
Don't think he was injured at all, Ange just wanted some extra pace in the last 10 minutes so brought Leckie on.

I can go down and watch a Sunday morning match in the local league and some of it looks pretty impressive to me.

If they were playing two lumps up front then probably only had Mooy + one in central midfield (a bit like Town in the second half at Ipswich) - or do they play 3-5-2? He will always be less effective in a two man central midfield. He got 10 minutes rest and hope he is having a long kip first class on the plane back to Yeadon.
