Am a massive fan but wasn't even close to mom tonight.........ward, Schindler, billing, VLP, kachunga all more influential for me. That said he was still probably a 6.5 out of 10!!!

tough call in a tough game.. conditions became quite 'tricky' towards the end..
give it to hef for trying to kick that blokes head off..the shockwave from his boot forced him to fall over..(no contact at all)..
swing a decent punch anywhere near him he would go down or a week..
mooy was the same as most tonight, trying to control a very bouncy ball in very difficult circumstances..

I agree with the rest but though VLP was poor tonight. Bar his shot he chose the wrong option every time. The worst one was 1st half, he was in the middle of the pitch with 2 or 3 players streaming down our right and rather than play a simple ball to Smith or Kachunga, decided to turn away and try and beat 3 men, ended up losing it and we were facing a corner 10 seconds later. I like what he brings in general and he really worries defenders, but he didn't bring it tonight for me.

So what ball did he play, or cross did he put in, that really worried Reading? With the ball at his feet he looks dangerous, but I can't remember him choosing the right option when releasing it tonight, bar his shot as I stated.

Evidence is even in the Sky highlights, simple ball into middle level with D which leads to a chance if I'm not mistaken.

Bit tricky with the current visa rules as they need to have broken through into the national team. Mooy has an EU passport. Are all their national squad players out of our bracket? I guess not if Davidson is included. Mooy has created some good momentum for Aussies playing for Town. Jason Davidson has a Greek passport (through his grandparents I think) so has free movement of his labour throughout the Eurozone.

I kinda cringed when we picked him as I knew he got a lot this year. The neutral lads said he stood out because he was dictating the passing, was all over the pitch and put some decent tackles in. Ward would have got it first half, but he had naff all to do in the second half (we had picked well before his save at the end)

By eck he needs some media training......love him on the field of play but surely there is someone in the squad who could interview better!? Haha. That's Aaron and no amount of media training will work. I watched most of his games live for 2 seasons for Melbourne Heart/City. He was targetted for a bit of violence and he would go missing. Like in this derby when he was butchered out of the game for about 70 minutes. And then at 3.30 ....

I would have thought Mooy's success this year was massive endorsement of the A-League's quality. I've heard and read numerous people claiming Mooy is the best player in the Championship this year. May or may not be true but just the fact so many people are saying it tells you that he must be thereabouts. What then does that say about the A-League? Mooy didn't dominate games in the A-League any more than he dominates games in the Championship. He was (and is) a standout but it wasn't like a bunch of ten year olds playing against a 20 year old. There's plenty more like Mooy playing a good standard of football, and because it's (necessarily) a salary capped league there's plenty more that would jump at the chance to play in a higher paid league. Lots of value in Oz right now...although I shouldn't be telling you that. Would be happy to have a few more approaching the quality of Mooy. Are there any standout players we should be looking at? Quite a few tasty youngsters but I reckon the best Aussie in the A-League right now is Troisi - 28 year old number ten for Melbourne Victory. Has had a couple of unhappy stints in Europe but is now in career best form and probably about to be back in the National Team. Would jump at the chance for a decent club. Brandon Borello is a young Brisbane striker worth a look - fast and knows where the goals are. Jamie McLaren is also a young Brisbane striker who won the golden boot last year. I often watch him play and think...naaah. But he keeps scoring goals which is a mysterious talent not many of us truly understand. Andrew Nabbout from Newcastle is having a good year also. Bruce Kamau and Luke Brattan from Melbourne City are very good. Quite a few defenders. Liam Rose and Jake McGing from the Mariners will be good players. Aspropotamitis (or whatever the fuck his name is) from the Western Sydney Wanderers looks the goods. I like the look of young McGree from Adelaide and also O'Doherty. Plenty of others also but that's the top of my head. Thing is, you'd get them all for peanuts, as the average wage in Oz is the equivalent of about 100k pounds per year.

I have no doubt that there are players in the A-League who could perform in the Championship and hopefully develop into excellent players, but don't expect any ready-made Mooys from the current batch. In the league's 10-year history, I think only a few midfielders have matched Mooy's dominance (Broich at his peak, maybe Rogic and Milligan).

McLaren finished 3rd in the golden boot behind Fornaroli and Berisha respectively. Regarding A League I'm not sure many on here are interested. As far a Mooy is concerned he is pretty much a once in a generation player and none of the current crop are even close. But that's just my opinion don't mind me.

Fair point. I meant McLaren finished top of the Aussies.
The question was asked whether there were other Aussies worth looking at. Mooy is hardly once in a generation. Jedinak has arguably done a lot more (and dominated A-League midfields more at CCM). Rogic is an amazing player at Celtic (should be playing in a better league) and there are others like Irvine, Luongo, Ryan, Langerak, Leckie et al doing well in Europe.
When Mooy dominates games for the Socceroos you might call him once in a generation, but I can't think of a single game where he's done that, with the possible exception of the friendly against England where he was one of the best players on the pitch (in the losing side).

Rogic maybe but rest in my opinion a way behind Mooy.Jedinak was good but his best is behind him. Luongo please. Leckie and Irvine are well below and Ryan and Langerak are keepers so you can't compare. All I'm saying is Mooy is above all the others at this point in time and during this past 6 months he has gone to a new level.

Top player, we all agree, influential, we agree too.
But tonight wasn't his finest game, he looked out of it for the last 10 - 15 minutes. On to Brentford, and back to MOM!!
