I don't feel as bad as I thought I would if we lost. We played so well. It's been a long time since we had a team where everybody is bloody good and then we bring on subs who are bloody good too.
Their defence was good for sure, but the best team lost today.

Folk can't call Newcastle shit. They've won 13 away this season, top scorers and best defence. We dominated possession as usual but we didn't put them under any real pressure. They defended well and we didn't put enough quality balls into the box. We'll beat most teams if continue to play the way we do, but you have to accept that like Middlesbrough last season they sat back and took their opportunities when they arose, despite all three goals being lucky. This. They flooded the midfield and we were indecisive out on the wing. Aside from the first 20 when we were losing the ball often we took two touches minimum going forward which stymied our attacks. As much as I feel we deserved a draw, their game plan worked tonight as much as Shef Weds did both times this season. Nothing to fear, Brighton will drop 4 more points than us come end of the season.

How did we lose to that shower of shit? Ironically, we were too dominant, forcing them to hit speculative long balls out of defence, which with a combination of luck and poor refereeing won them the game. Honestly don't think we were dominant. Three teams have wooped us this season - Newcastle tonight - Sheff Wed - Fulham All played our own game against us with quick counter attack. We cannot defend against our own style of football it seems. What counter attacks did they have?

If you quote possession stats we were dominant for sure, no question.

They don't really deserve credit for their game plan unless it included getting a penalty for one of their players tripping himself up. That changes the entire game and allows the side with the best defensive record in the division to park the bus and hope for a break or two.
If we'd have scored the first goal tonight we'd have won, no doubt in my mind.

I'm saying simply that if we had played for twice as long - we'd have conceded more goals. They let us huff and puff round the twenty yard box - possession football - it came to zero, that's all I'm saying - Rafa did the job on us. They are top of the league for a reason no? will you shut this thread if we dont agree with you ?

Nothing lost other than the game, very fine margins. Spirit, effort and determination fantastic. On to the next challenge and don't lose heart.

The only time they looked like getting through was when VLP covered and made a superb tackle on Gayle/Gail/Gayel, until Coleman's back header that is.

We didn't get behind them enough and failed to play through them but play the same against most of the other teams in this division and we should be fine. I'm never going to moan against (all being well) making the playoffs so I'm not too downhearted tonight, just one of those nights. Onwards and upwards ! UTT

Get real. Statistics sometimes lie, but not tonight. Possession Home 76% Away 24% Shots Home 16 Away 6 Corners Home 9 Away 3 Fouls Home 8 Away 17 They were average. The ref was poor. and yet we couldn't score in a brothel (exactly the same at Barnsley). Hence my first post where I said that, ironically, we were too dominant. Had Newcastle had anything about them we might have had some space to run into and attack them, but they were pinned back for the most part, and hitting hopeful long balls out of a deep defence. They won more by luck than design.

No, but had any top 6 team been given a 2-0 headstart they would've been able to shut up shop and play 11 men behind the ball for 70 minutes.

Seriously reading this thread through you'd think that Newcastle had a game plan? No that's not the case. I can take a defeat. I can really take a defeat with this new town team. They play like they don't know the score like it's the first minute like it's the first game of the season. What I can't accept what I really can't accept is the complete bullshit we keep getting handed from referees! Seriously? How have they missed those two complete game changing decisions? It WAS handball and no it wasent a foul from wells but an exaggerated over the top dive from Ritchie. The law states that if keeper has ball between hand and body then it's a foul. I guarantee you if that decision was replayed at st James park and players reversed it would be a foul against us. How can refs miss so much blatent shit but see that like the clear light of day!? FUCK ME IM ANNOYED

Newcastle's GD now almost 7x better than ours....SEVEN, FFS!
We're now on just 6.....Owls gained 6 on us today.

Newcastle just sat back, booted the ball up the park and took advantage of the luck they got. Only one team played any football today but it's tough to play against a side who don't want to play.
We needed to get the first goal today. That was crucial. Newcastle came for a point, got lucky and took all three. Glad I don't have to watch their brand of football each week.

By wooped I mean they had us all worked out - possession means nowt - goals might have been lucky but we would never have won that game regardless. Gonna watch David Haye knock out Bellew later and get even more fucked off.... Sheff Weds at our place worked us out. We didn't turn up at Reading. Absolutely no way did Newcastle figure us out today. Very fortunate and when you consider their first goal against Brighton, the fact they have come out of this week with 6 points is not much short of a miracle Edit. Fulham. Not Reading

Wells didn't cut it today and Quaner didn't get enough of a chance IMO. I sometimes wonder how Kachunga would do as a poacher up front. As a team and possession, we piss it every time. We need to convert this possession though. To be fair, I thought the Toon keeper saved some good efforts today.

It just goes to show how far the terriers have progressed, good effort but we came up short today , not much luck and playing against a very cautious team who we expected better from. UTT

Aside of Hefs backside goal at Villa there's been very few bits of luck that have won us points this season.
To be up where we are via genuine hard work & effort is something we should be very proud of.
Maybe our slices of luck are yet to come? But if they're not we can at least rely on our style to pull us through...
Newcastle have won 6 points by a fluky goal v Brighton & 3 gimme's today...

We don't get many pens from the old boys club, but we get red cards for less than their cynical hacking on the edge of their area tonight.

Play like we have been the rest of the games and we could win up. I definitely fancy us to win more points than Brighton, pip them final day with a win over Cardiff.

I'm fucking livid for various reasons, at Town, they worked hard but no end product, the ref terrible, Danny Ward never rated him. Big crowd in and we blow it just like we have done on every occasion in the past, something I thought we'd stopped doing, evidently not.

The fact they were shit played against us. If they had attacked and not had hod carrying cloggers like Colback and Shelley, we would have been okay . Colback fouled and niggled his way through the game and Shelvey in my eyes contributed very little apart from a couple of key fouls and a hopeful hoof upfield for their second TV commentators thought the pair played well protecting the back four hey ho

We would never be able to play like that, and for that I've got mixed feelings. Wish we could but kinda glad we don't. Think you have to say well done Rafa and their defence. We didn't create a single clear chance despite our general magnificence. Oh that we would have someone like Murphy to step up. VLP MoM for me.
