So Nahki may go, he may not, that's football. No one can question Deano or Wagner, they make the decision and as fans we stand by them no matter what. Yes we all have an opinion, would be a boring world if we all had the same one. At the end of the day someone on here will be right, he may go on to be a prolific goalscorer at this level with another club, he may go on to score very little. It really doesn't matter. Would I want Depoitre to come off the bench instead of Wells? Hell yes, we are a different animal now. Different quality, different level. Wells has been tremendous for us no matter what the future holds, part of a never forgotten team. Players come and go, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. All we can do is get behind everyone who stays at the club 100%, be the bigger person and wish players leaving all the best and let our football do the talking. Our squad is one of the best we have ever had, unfortunately there isn't room for everyone. If he goes, thanks for the goals. If he stays, be proud to wear the shirt.

Why would Origi possibly want to come and sit on the bench at Town. Have we written off Mounié and Depoitre already. Nahki is/was surplus to requirements. The only possible reason for keeping him was for cover on the second bench. £5 million in the bank seems sensible to me. We can think again at the January window if it comes to an emergency. Not many shopping days left to Christmas. Sure DW can whip out a young European back up striker for the bench in Jan if required for less than £5 million. Again, can I point out that the commonly held assumption/situation is that Liverpool demand that their players out on-loan are expected to play in 75% of games, meaning that Origi would not come to us simply as a bench-warmer. For this reason alone I wouldn't have ANY Liverpool players anywhere near our club on-loan. There speaks a man of experience. Totally goes against wagner's philosophies too. Stick your shitty overpriced rejects up your arse Klopp. If we played you next week we'd put a few past your shite defence (that you've had 2 years to build) and no you can't have Schindler who is miles better than all your centre backs.

Fair comment- he struggled when he had time but then second half of the season he struggled when he didn't have time either. Was it 1 in 17 towards end of season- summer like that. He'll stick Kachunga up front if he needs a pacey option. I think it's left winger we need. Unless he's going with Sabiri. Agree wholeheartedly with this and if there's truth in the rumours it seems that's what we were after.

The thing that wound me up with Wells was when he stood on the pitch at Wembley and said he'd look at sorting a new contract! This was in the TV interviews during the celebrations. He'd refused to sign one for how long? He'd have been the first knocking on the door to leave if we hadn't gone up. No two ways. Players can point to loyalty and putting performances in, but it works two ways and it has in this instance. *If he'd gone in Jan last season I wouldn't have been bothered*. Good thing he didn't as we wouldn't have gone up. Fans are fickle. 2 years ago he scored 18 and kept us in the league with a poor team. He was at a lower championship club and he wanted to play at a high level. Who could've really envisaged us getting promotion really. So he stalled on signing. Right time for him to leave as everyone else signed and he didn't. Loyalty deserves rewarding.. However, he's been a great servant for the club and will leave for a good profit for us. Don't really get all the animosity. He scored in both the penalty shootouts. He scored goals regularly for 3 seasons. Did his job and now he's leaving and making us money. Good luck Nahki. Agree absolutely no need for animosity but for some reason Nahki's finishing touch deserted him last year and it nearly cost us promotion. He was outstanding in the play offs though. Along with both centre backs & Mooy he was our best player. He'll rediscover his goalscoring too I think, hopefully not with Burnley.

I think it's left winger we need. Unless he's going with Sabiri. Unless he keeps lolley? Lolley can't/won't play on the left wing. One trick pony who runs down the right wing, cuts inside and shoots with his left. Hits the defender/advertising hoardings/stands/car park/goal (delete as appropriate)

I hope he goes, just so I don't have to read anymore about these supposed misses from last season, because I find it incomprehensible, it's not even remotely true (the prior at least was merely exaggerated). Plus these constant daft valuations, either way, that aren't much beyond than arbitrary.
Is he the right type of striker for us, could he have done better at getting into scoring positions, they're different matters and at least the former is why he is down the pecking order and presumably why we a comfortable, as oppose to necessarily wanting, to sell.
Thanks and good luck, but not if it comes at our expense.

If there's a debate about VLP... Not for me. So who are the 2 players for every position we apparently now have? Not completely sure where Wagner sees Ince. The central strikes moonie/depoitre. Right wing Kachunga and Quanner. ACM Ince and Palmer? Left: vlp &? 4 CMs PB, Mooy, Hogg, Williams (A finely balanced 4 I might add- if these 4 remain fit I think we'll stay up) Schindler, Zanka, Heff, stank Rb: smith and new lad Lb: Lowe and malone Keepers: lossl, Coleman, green(leeds scum), Any ideas?

They don't seem happy with the prospect of Wells on the Burnley forum... but many of them describe him as "pacy" - this seems to be a commonly held myth, many other team's fans were saying the same last season.
One comment:
"Signing Nahki Wells isn't even scraping the barrel, its picking the barrel up, turning it over, and scraping the shite off the underside of it.
Dreadful signing."
Ouch.

I was actually half joking when I posted this realising it would never happen but having said that - I do think we will need a scoring back up for Mounie as I actually do not think he has any competition for his position at the moment and not at all certain about Depoitre but hope I am proved badly wrong. Depoitre didn't look as though he would let anyone down to me. We paid a lot of dosh for him so I think we need to back DW's judgement. If he thought Wells was a better alternative I'm sure he would have taken the steps needed to keep him.

Selling Nakhi Wells for £5m is great business. He's not Premier League standard, in my opinion. As for only having two strikers remaining, I think we've got 4. Both Kachunga and Quaner were strikers when we signed them and could provide back-up to Mounie and Depoitre if needed. Kachunga up front with Van La Parra, Ince and Palmer in the three roles behind would still be strong. Quaner is not a striker and is the reason why most fans feel a little uneasy letting Wells go as it moves Quaner one step closer to the first team.

While I agree he's not a striker, he's carved himself out a useful niche as a super sub. Has already contributed every time he's come on. I don't reckon Wells leaving will have much, if any, effect on how much he features.

Yes if you spend millions on a striker they're more likely to score goals. Kachunga came in and played on the wing so don't really get that either. The 'if we had a clinical striker' argument isn't relevant. We paid 1.8 mil and for that he was pretty damn handy for 3 years. We had what we had as a squad and everyone played out of their skin under Wagner last year.

The argument about a clinical striker isn't relevant? What did the two auto teams have that we didn't? A clinical striker. Wells wouldn't sign a contract. He thought he was a Prem player. Either through bad advice or choice he thought Town might not make it. Not really keen on that. Once there he was offered a new deal. He turned it down. We all move on. I'm not bothered though. It's like when we sold Lee Makel or Pawel Abbot. Thanks for the memories, we were only ever a stepping stone for him. He made that clear from the beginning. Remind me who the fickle one is again? Me or a player in his own mind was really only ever here for the duration of that contract? Like I said, he'd have been the first knocking on the door to leave had we not gone up.

If Terrode or Uth had been signed, this debate would have been this time last summer...

The next time somebody posts that Wells has sulked, taken his ball home, been disruptive etc could they PLEASE provide one shred of evidence. I've read so much on this board about his attitude that seems to have no basis whatsoever, other than an obvious dislike of the player. I can understand a supporter not liking a player, I can understand a player not agreeing to whatever terms we have offered, but every time I've seen Wells play - he has put in the effort and teamwork that I expect from a professional. I also didn't see the VLPs, Kachungas etc stepping up to take penalties when it mattered. As for him missing loads of chances last season I must have been at different matches to certain posters - the number of times he was by himself in the penalty area was legion, and considering we played wingers I don't remember many crosses from VLP and the like that didn't either sail over his head or hit the first man. If he is going to a rival-for-relegation I think we are making a mistake. I can assure you that there is no way that Sean Dyche is going to play him up front by himself. All about opinion as ever, but I feel we must replace him - this week. As has been said the thought of the likes of Quaner taking on a Premiership defence is mind-boggling. I wouldn't disagree with what you said about his effort and teamwork, but he never helped himself with his body language during games. He often looked like a spoilt 7 year old who was about to cry because he wasn't getting things his own way. I found it hard to take to him because of this, and that crap about the club being a stepping stone for him. Fair enough if that's what he thought, but you don't bloody say it in a public interview! Good luck to him if he goes, his efforts will have been appreciated by me and others, but I don't think he'll be looked back on with as much affection as many other of our centre forwards through history.

Depoitre unproven in the English Premier League but being allowed the benefit of the doubt that he can and will cut it.
Nahki Wells, unproven in the English Premier League but not been allowed the benefit of doubt that he can and will cut it.
Perhaps if Wagner had signed Wells he would be owed the courtesy that other Players have.

Perhaps if Wagner had signed Wells he would be owed the courtesy that other Players have. Depoitre has won the Belgium league playing as a key man and was top scorer in the division. He's also played for the Belgium national team (which at this moment is better than Englands) Crucially depoitre fits our formation / style whereas Wells makes the best of it but ultimately is too lightweight and meek in the challenge We get £5m and I actually think this move also suits Wells as he performs better in a two. So good luck to him My view is that if Wells was that good and £5m such a steal then why is only Burnley offering it, Wagner has been hawking Wells' availability for weeks. Time will tell whether Dyche is a genius and he's had Towns pants down.
