It's amazing how Ince has improved, now he's been sold. I liked him and he always put a shift in. However he didn't have the pace or skill to create at this level and neither does Kachunga. Diakhaby looked OK yesterday, I'd give him sessions with Whitehead to toughen him up. Can't comment on Mbenza yet, far too early. Correct and that's why we needed better if we were selling him! Mbenza awful against Cardiff for his 22 minutes and crap against Stokes second team. Diakhaby awful today and last week. Sabiri poor again against Stoke and replaced after 45. Bacuna can't even get a subs spot. That is NOT good recruitment...we could have just blown out instead on one good known right winger who we know would do the job (and been a sight damn cheaper in the long run). Diakhaby wasn't awful yesterday. He made some absolutely superb runs off the ball and we didn't find him. He work rate was good which kept Digne honest and that nullified a lot of Evertons threat down that side. He is young and raw, but seeing him play well against Leipzig (think it was them) and slot a very good one on one past the keeper leads me to believe has has something. I do agree that the recruitment was underwhelmin though. Rebbe and the rest had 3 months to address a massive problem in the creativity department and were left scrambling around up until the last minute on deadline day to bring in Mbenza which seems very strange to meWasn't a last day scramble - deal had been done in way good time (days before?) and it was left to announce to create a bit of excitement for us fans (DH made this point at the recent Q&A).

We’ve build a team, and got where we are, by not buying overpaid “proven” players. It’s been about getting people in who have something to prove or potential to be developed. Biggest flop for me was the more experienced guy that some people now seem disappointed that we sold. Was surprised we got our money back too. Let’s wait a little while before judging them one war or the other, new team, new league, new country etc

I remember Bradford in their second season went for big name quality; Collymore,Carbone, Petrescu They were hopeless that season as the big names didn’t work out at all and Bradford went down with 26 points ... 16 points from safety! I don't think anyone is asking for big names, just good players who have been well scouted and have the required ability, as per players bought in the last two seasons, it's the last window that looks bad. Sent from my SM-G920F using proboards Let’s give the new lads chance but I agree there impact so far has been low due to injury and non selection (Diakhaby the exception) One thing different to last year is Rebbe instead of Moss - not sure how many of our deals Moss was responsible for but we seemed to get a lot of transfers right last summer

Buying proven quality doesn't always guarantee you proven quality. Anyone remember Chelsea signing Kezman, Shevchenko, Torres or Veron? Great examples. Add Falcao to that. Looked an absolute world beater in the Super Cup for Athletico Madrid and then proceeded to stink the place out for Chelsea.

What everyone seems to be forgetting is that it’s the system that comes first with Wagner. He’s always held players back until they understand the system, he’s not going to change that over night.
Hence why Mbenza isn’t getting the same game time, he came in later and needs to catch-up. Once all the new players understand the system they will be put in the team.

Thought Diakhaby struggled a bit yesterday, but I’m not writing him off yet. Still learning the system and definitely has qualities we’ve been missing. Also thought it was a tough test, thought Digne looked very good for them along with Zouma, which didn’t make it easy for him.

Fair enough, didn't know that. Were the majority of our summer signings already targeted by DW before Rebbe arrived ?

Sent from my SM-G920F using proboards Admittedly it's a small number of games, but Diakhaby looks to have more pace and trickery than Ince, so looks better to me. Dean Hoyle claimed Mbenza was the number 1 target for the summer, so you'd hope he would also be better. He has scored goals in the top French division, so shouldn't look out of place.

If Diakhaby was the finished article, then i doubt we'd have been able to afford him. And even if we were prepared to push the boat out, if he was the finished article then there'd have been a host of other clubs wanting him too. Persuading him to come to west Yorkshire to probably the most unfashionable club in the prem wouldn;t have been easy.
From the little Ive seen of him he has one obvious standout attribute that we have sadly lacked- pace. genuine shit off a shovel pace. Pace, or lack of it, is the reason Ince, Kachunga or quaner and VLP couldn;t provide any service last season. Theyre up against real quality full backs and don;t have the speed to get past them.
Diakhaby has the pace, he just needs to develop his footballing brain and strengthen up a bit- thats the job of DW and the coaches, but if he can then we could end up with a fantastic assett.
As for price, £5m -£10m is what you pay for a gamble these days. Some clubs even more than that.

We've got 2 weeks now to get these lads fully up to speed in terms of fitness and Wagner's system.
Wagner has said a few times this summer that the priority was to sign fast offensive players. So far, that's pretty much all I've seen... raw pace but little to no skill.
RVLP still looks like our best winger. He has plenty of critics but I thought he was fantastic yesterday!

People really writing Mbenza off after 22 minutes pretty much played at right back against Cardiff? Or even Diakhaby? Give the lads a chance ffs it's pathetic.
Are they an upgrade on Ince? I've no idea if they're better or worse yet but I do know Ince isn't quite good enough for the Premier League so as hard as he tried I don't think we'll miss him and now have 2 exciting players that "could" be good enough.

I think the point people are trying to make is that we're already four games in, signing players who need that long to get up to speed isn't ideal and tbh I'm not sure I believe Mbenza was our first choice either! They may both be great players at some point hopefully although initial signs aren't exactly encouraging. Fact is we've looked weaker on the right in the first few games without Ince, every point is absolutely vital and we don't have time to wait for new lads to get up to speed!!! Seems short sighted to start the season with a weaker squad. Ince getting slated on this thread but he was decent value at £8M and contributed massively to us staying in the league.

Having said that I find it hard to believe he didn't get a single assist!

Diakhaby dribbled around more players on Saturday than Ince did all last season. Ince grafted but had nowhere near enough quality or confidence, his first touch often took him five yards back towards Lossl. Early days but the international break will both the new lads a world of good to get up to speed.

Thought Diakhaby did well enough on Saturday and clearly has some talent there as well as a lot of pace. He clearly needs a lot more minutes in training and on the pitch however to get the Premier League intelligence you need in this league. All too often he played a powderpuff pass that was cut out easily, or tried to beat a player only to be out-muscled and out-smarted. Zouma for example seemed to mop him up every time Diakhaby beat a midfielder.
