Had a big hand in our past 2 goals. Better footballer than I thought he would be.

It's a massive step up from league 1 to Prem so from what he's shown so far he could turn out to be a very good signing, if he gets some confidence going in the remaining games and then he plays against weaker defences next season he could really kick on. We should also get down to Orient in summer and offer £1m for their goal-scoring striker. I'm sure they'd bite our hand off for that kind of money. Said this in the January window - we need players who know where the net is; Grant is a good example of this.

Had a big hand in our past 2 goals. Better footballer than I thought he would be. Agree with this, even Charlton fans gave the impression he was a long way off being a decent "footballer" and more just a finisher with pace but he's shown far more to his game, really impressed with him and another reason to be excited about next season.

Thought he was excellent. Good skills, worked his socks off, looked confident. Looked a premier division player. Put more effort in and contributed more in that one game than depoitre has in 25 appearances this season combined. Exactly that. Depoitre has given up this season, it’s a great pity.

Credit also due to Jan for his ability to get the best out of young players. Good times ahead.

Siewert on Grant: "and this is the reason why I signed him". Wasn't our interest reported a week or so before Wagner even left? 🤔 It was agreed Wagner was leaving no matter what, BEFORE the Cardiff game.

I think that is a bit harsh on Depoitre as he has had a few good moments this season, and rattled the woodwork a few times. He is looking old and tired though, and Grant lean and mean. Great prospect.

Would love to see the stats on distance covered for grant v. Mounie. Grant was doing what neither Mounie or depoitre have done all season.. Making runs.. Dragging the centre halfs around. Getting in behind.. Great prospect for us 👍

With the right type of service, and some confidence, he'd be an asset to our squad.

Not sure, but I've suspected for a bit that he might go on to do well in another side. Maybe under Jan it could be here?

Too nice aswell..needs to toughen up a bit..rough up the defence..get foooking mean Steve... Show us your ugly side 😬

Thought Mounie looked good with Grant last night and vice-versa, complimented each other well and Mounie's flick on's finally had a target.
I'm very much a fan of Mounie and do believe if we keep him, him and grant will be very a force as a duo rather than a solitary outfit by themselves.

Maybe under Jan it could be here? There was a move in the 1st half where Mounié beat his man and got to the byline. Grant made a run to the near post but then checked his run and looked to try get unmarked in a central position. Unfortunately Mounié thought Grant was going to continue his run and crosses to the near post. It was at that moment I thought, ‘hang on, we might have something here, two strikers who could strike up a great combo with a bit of time!’ They are definitely worth keeping an eye on before the season is over.

Mounie's touch was dire again at times last night. Let's him down at crucial times
I also don't get why he smacks first time passes 20 yards back beyond where it has just come from instead of controlling it and laying it off to someone 5 yards away

There was a lot of people moaning that we 'only' signed a striker from league 1. Well straight away he looks a better player than either of the strikers weve had these last 2 seasons. Better in terms of effort, movement, tenacity, athleticism, touch and actually looks like he has a goal in him.
We didn;t need to spend a fortune or get top flight experience to improve on the strikers we had.

Next lower league target should be Ronan Curtis at Pompey. Great left wing prospect, IMO.

Last night he was able to link with 2 players more often than not rather than being alone up against 2 or 3 defenders. He was still mainly the focal point with Grant the one pulling wide but one of them has to occupy centre halves and he's out best target man so it makes sense plus he did do more work going wide than is being made out by some.

Knows where the net is Yeah, but this Curtis guy is really having an impact at L1 level and I think he only joined Pompey last summer from a League of Ireland club. Makes goals and can score. Seen him twice this season, first game v Plymouth he scored twice, one a cracker, and made the other. Exciting talent.

I was amazed how good he looks, not out of place in the slightest, if you asked a neutral who the £12M striker was last night it wouldn't be Mounie.
Very early days but looks a similar player to Nahki only better in every department. I was expecting a poacher, didnt expect his all round game and technical ability to be so good.

I think the analogy to Nahki is a fair one. I saw Grant several times last season for Crawley and whilst he was clearly their best player, he didn’t impress me that much. I think he’s come on leaps and bounds this season.

Not saying the OP necessarily is, but why do so many people have to use something good to use as a stick to hit someone else with. It's like they have to find a pantomime villain.
It's no great shock a player of Grant's physique gets about the field more and faster than Depoitre or Mounie.
God knows what the reaction would have been like on here if it was role reversal for our goal. Probably absolute pelters for Mounie after the jubilation had settled down.

Good full debut for the lad, he never stopped running, showed good control & always looked to get forward with the ball. A definite contender for MotM yesterday. Should give him loads of confidence going into the Brighton match.
