I Thought I would set up a thread for us to talk about the Women’s World Cup that starts this week. With England playing at 1700 next Sunday.
I am Currently watching a documentary on BBC One about the England Lionesses aka the England Women’s team. I would recommend that anyone who likes football documentaries watch it.
I don’t support any women’s domestic teams. But I try and watch England when they are on TV. To be fair I find the standard very low and of a similar quality to my local York City FC, but I still support the England Team.
I’m of the opinion that the Women’s game will only get better with more frequent and regular competitions. I think the Super League will have a massive impact on the domestic level and within 10 years the game will expand loads.
Is anyone getting excited for this World Cup? What events are being organised out there? Will the pubs be filled with the barmy army? Why doesn’t Town have a women’s team? I’m also interested to find out what opInions you may have about Women’s football in general. Good or bad. Just don’t be a misogynistic twat.

Whilst the overall quality may not be at the same level as the men's game, nor is the 'gamesmanship'. 1-0 to the women.

I will be watching England v Scotland but after that I'm on holiday so I probably won't see a lot of group stage stuff until I get back. England sound confident but their recent form and results have been a bit patchy, will be interesting to see how they do against Japan who are quite well rated.

I find womens football very entertaining, great there is no feigning injury, no arguing with the ref, no macho stand offs...They play fully committed, they don't roll around screaming when an eyelash is 'flicked'...and while the 'talent' isn't at the men's level many of the players have real skills which are to be admired. I've watched loads on TV and no longer compare it to the mens game, just accept it as it is, a very enjoyable experience andI'll be watching as much of the world cup as I can albeit from France so likely it'll be the French team mostly. Phil Neville has done a surpisingly good job since being appointed manager and seems to have the respect of the England players. I hope they make the final..

I'll be watching the world cup. I think it's a bit of a myth though that's there's no gamesmanship and cheating in the women's game. There may not be quite the level of diva behaviour as there is in the men's game but I've seen snippets of highlights of women's football here and there this season and saw some very soft penalties given from players going down easily.

^^ This is more of a request to the admins, but could we please keep this thread as a safe space to discuss the World Cup without having to waft through people talking about how shite they think women are? There's still the general Women's Football thread if you want to keep flogging that dead horse.
I'm in Blackpool this weekend, hope that there's plenty pubs showing the England Scotland game as I don't really want to miss that one!

If you like womens footy thats fine ..crack on.. It is shite tho🤓 The problem nowadays is that lots of people have opinions which they seem to like to post all over social media with nothing to support those views or measure them against often based on stereotypes and / or lazy journalism. These are often of the form: Homosexuals need medicine to cure them Black players are lazy We’re better off outside the EU Etc etc etc ... Perhaps you could explain what it is about women’s football that makes it “shite”

Clearly women's football has it's knocker's but I don't mind it. I already watch too much footy as it is. My wife keeps going on about how she might as well be single, I wish she was too.

Careful now... Joking aside, I'll probably watch a few of the games. Enjoyed the last women's World Cup where England did something the men haven't managed: winning a 3rd place play-off!

Ironic isn't it, I havent got Sky as I cannot afford to pay the fees. My National team play Holland and I am unable to support them, yet the ladies are on BBC and I wouldn't cross the road to watch them even if the gate fee was free. I wonder why the BBC showed the ladies game but didn't put a bid in for the mens game? Or better still why didn't Sky put the ladies game on and not the mens?

Presumably the BBC didnt have much competition for the rights to screen the Doris's.

Maybe they consider a world cup more important than league of nations?

Reasonably entertaining first half, had to sit through more dreary 45 mins at the JSS last season.

Without exaggeration it would be highly unlikely if VLP or Quaner could have scored France's second goal - the powerful header directed to the bottom corner.

I've never been that bothered about it, but the more I watch the women's game the more I think it's not too bad.
It doesn't have the power or pace of the men's game but there's a lot more football played. Compare France's first half tonight to the whole of England's perfprmance against Holland, or, as the poster above said, to many of Town's performances this last season and there's so much more movement, passing and teamwork in the game tonight.
Of course a man's team will always hammer a women's team but I've enjoyed more entertaining football tonight than I have in many of the Premier league games I've watched in the last two years. I'm genuinely not trying to be provocative but that header for the second goal was excellent. The marking was very poor but I've not seen quite a few of Town's players ever score a header like that.
