How come we are in the 1st round draw and Fulham and Cardiff aren’t? Bit weird It depends on how many English teams qualify for Europe. As those teams enter in round 3, they need to make sure the correct amount of teams play in round 2. For example there are 70 teams in round 1, that means 35 qualify for round 2 along with Fulham and Cardiff and the 13 PL teams not in europe, making a total of 50 teams in rnd2. If Fulham and Cardiff were in round 1, round 2 would have 49 teams and that wouldn't work. Your sensible logic is not welcome on this board. We prefer answers based on rumour, what they heard from a mate of a mate of a mate of a mate, who's friend works in the car park at Canalside and who knows the Mother of the receptionist... And so on, etc....

If all 3 were in it’d be an odd number. We are in for finishing bottom. You sure about that? No I’d just woke up and my head was in the shed. I know what I meant but it obviously wasn’t that.

It seems slightly odd that we play in round 1 and Fulham and Cardiff don’t, because of last seasons finishing league position, and yet the three promoted teams finished LOWER than us last season, and yet join in round 2?

The other 2 just depend on whether there are 7 or 8 English teams in Europe. (I don't think we can have any less than 7 or more than 8). If 8 teams qualify for Europe then all 3 relegated teams go into the 1st round.

The 3 promoted teams get a bye to Round 2 because that's what happens to all PL teams which haven't qualified for Europe. Round 1 (70 teams): 24 from League Two 24 from League One 22 from Championship (18th & 19th placed teams from last season's PL get a bye to Round 2) Round 2 (50 teams): 35 winners from Round 1 13 PL teams not in European competition 2 Championship sides with byes from Round 1 Round 3 (32 teams): 25 winners from Round 2 7 PL teams which qualified for Europe

But it's a fact that Sheff Utd and whoever else got promoted have a bye to round two despite finishing lower than we did.

Because that's the way it is. All Prem teams for the current season start in Round 2 or 3. That's just the rules.

There's two stages of filtering teams out: Step 1. All Prem teams get a bye to round two Step 2. Of those remaining, the two teams who finished highest last season (Fulham/Cardiff) also get a bye

Not that I care or have even been to a League Cup game in about 6 years...the first round always clashes with being away on holiday. 🤷♂️🤣

Hasn't someone created a survey yet as to which team will be our first fixture?

Reckon we could be playing a team who play in stripes, or possibly a flat colour. Don't think it'll be hoops though. Or will it?
