perhaps even more than a player. There is not much i wish for in life but in the words of Keegan "i would love it"! I know i say they are over-rated and they are...but when i grew up they made a huge difference. They did the lot, scouting, signing, coaching and running a business. To this day i think the managers first job is finding players and building a dressing room...sod director of football. You need the central diamond. A top striker, centre-back and keeper are worth 3 times more than any other player. Fourthly you need a centre-midfielder really comfortable on it who can go left or right....the rest of the team you can make up from bones. I have always had an eye....i just see it. You need the changing room with you, you need bottle and your players need to be fearless. Its like creating an armed force. What a feeling it must be to go to war every week.

I wish you were as well. Because by your own words, you could manage Town as well as anyone in the past 40 years. Which would mean we were dead certs for promotion this year.

As regards being a football manager, there must be numerous teams looking for guidance. The only problem would be installing the necessary zing into an over-50s football team somewhere, even a pro would find that difficult. But hey, give it a try: Like the old saying goes "Do not bewail that what ye can still prevail".

there are managers who in all honesty you could not have dome worse than but some Town teams(including most of last season) you would have required 'divine intervention' to get something out of.
right bloke, 3 or 4 very good(lucky) signings and a squad prepared to run all day and kick anything that moves or stands still long enough.
maybe the stars will 'align' again for us next season.?
As for the job, most positions are judged on a week to week, game by game basis and thats a shitty 'noose' hanging every couple of bad results plus you win 2 or 3 and you are the '2nd coming' which is very unhelpful for a season of 40 or more league games.
not for me..

In fairness I think Otium is referring to not playing to any sort of decent semi-pro standard even but if that list is going to apply then you'd have to include Arsene Wenger in it !
I do believe within 10 years the analytical side of the game will have taken over to such as extent that the whole managerial coaching landscape will have changed completely.

It’s quite common in Portuguese football that non playing coaches pick up a youth team, have a bit of success and quickly rise up through the game that way without ever playing.
The Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim who I’d hoped would be someone Town might have had on their radar when Wagner left and he briefly became available before Thierry Henry was sacked and he returned, has 25+ years of managerial experience behind him, he’s only 44.

I’m guessing you don’t have your Level 1 badge never mind the Level 4+ required to manage a professional team?! I wish I could become a heart surgeon and bring some positive change to people’s life’s. How hard can it be...I’m as well qualified for it as you are at being able to be a professional football manager ?! 🤣 not a dig...but I bet we all wish we were football managers,..it’s always seemed an incredibly easy, inordinately well paid job to me!

The FA are currently considering an Otium rule to ensure he is interviewed for all management jobs due to him being severely under represented.

Chapman, Shankly. Clough, Nicholson did they have coaching badges? Crock of shit. Ferguson only did them because of pressure and the coming rules....he was not even coaching at that stage. Like most things in life you can either do it or you cannot. The manager at top level is an irrelevance. Its money. A wily, driven man with an eye could take North Ferriby to the top of the Conference.

You would have been a brilliant astronaut Thanks Rigger.....do you have NASA's number? I know the bloke who runs the NASA football (soccer) team. He says he'll only take you on if you also have some other skills, like being able to deep drill into rogue asteroids etc. Plus he's waiting for a call back from the coach of the Martian XI, who he's offered a game on the moon. I think the Martian boss might have called back, but it takes a while for the return path...
