Cancelled due to zero interest What a treat of a night out. Lee telling us about all the honours he has collected as a top manager, Cole sitting there scowling and grunting occasionally. Probably going to have a guest appearance from Sol Campbell bemoaning his lack of managerial opportunities (due to institutional racism in the white-dominated boardrooms). Live music from Lindisfarne who reformed especially for this event with Jimmy Nail guesting on vocals. What a canny neet out, manš And a free bag o Tuda crisps

Do you think anyone will ever equal his record of league matches without losing? Does that include play off matches? I've always wondered if they were league matches or cup matches. Anyone know? Have you asked Slapps? He's usually up on this type of thing.

He's not been very well in recent years sadly.

Does anyone else think that we may catch cold two of the teams we play in the first month (Derby and Wednesday) as they both have brand new managers who havenāt had the full pre-season and hopefully wonāt have had time to embed their systems and styles?

Be interesting to see what happens when MA says they've no money for transfers, because he's too busy trying to buy up the High St (or not, according to his delayed trading figures today)... I put Bruce in the same bracket as Redknapp. Somehow lauded Mgrs, but who would insist on money backing them, rather than good Mgrs squeezing every last drop out of teams that should be nowhere near successful on paper - a bit like a bloke who was with us not so long ago...

Toons policy is to buy young and sell at a profit. Bruce uses a splatter gun to buy well known older players at inflated prices. I see trouble ahead. Bottom 3 and Bruce gone by Xmas i predict.

Bottom 3 and Bruce gone by Xmas i predict. it appears to be a lot of clubs 'policy' to get a name in as manager.. stop the roundabout and grab one that has been all over the fucking place with limited success but a strangely 'high profile' Benitez was toon's exception to the rule and if given the money that Bruce will demand would have done better with it. The owner can now play off Benitez leaving and having to restructure for the new manager and one or two medium signings is the best that can be done. Bruce will either get lucky or its another tough season with a change of manager to deflect from the owners mis management. He has thicker skin than Donald so the fans reactions as they buy their 50 thousand plus season cards and their thousands and thousands of shirts and shit from the club shop will merely be 'mixed messages' to him.. Being still in the premier league however far down is all that counts to Ashley.

Agreed, but some Mgrs have form for jumping ship more often than others, Bruce is one of these. A true journeyman Mgr... He's overrated IMHO...

Absolutely gutted. Exactly 7 weeks ago, that shite (convenient) takeover story emerged and all the excitement (but some scepticism) followed, and now 7 weeks later it's at a massive low. It's obviously been a forgetful 12 years under Ashley, but this is probably the lowest I've felt as a fan. Going from Rafa to the ultimate journeyman in Bruce who's vast majority of success has come at Championship level (should come in very handy), Perez, Rondon gone, even bloody Joselu, ha, and not one single addition. Dubravka apparently unsettled, Longstaff will probably go on deadline day, and you can't blame anyone for wanting out.
Newcastle generally doesn't get a good rep on this board, and that's fine, neither does Rafa, but I genuinely believe he didn't want the world, he just wanted to be like your Leicester's, West Ham's, Palace's - have a bit ambition, spend a bit, be a midtable side and maybe go all out for a cup, he wasn't demanding a top 6 budget, but the club apparently didn't 'share his vision' and this basically rubber stamps what everyone knew all along that we will pretty much always be a side with a very low relative budget (even that well documented on here wage bill has been slashed), make no mistake it's bottom 4/5 stuff, and without Rafa working his magic and effectively adding a few positions each season, we'll be extremely lucky to finish 17th.
Boy hood club, pay rise aside, I'm surprised Bruce has ditched a decent club like Sheff Wed (that also won't go down well here), who's fans seemed to like him and who treated him well and waited until he was ready, to an absolute mess of a club, where he's not wanted at all, with fan unrest, #BoycottArsenal gathering momentum, a bang average squad, far worse than last year, and limited time to put things right. An absolute mess of a club.
Oh, and good luck for your season. I haven't really been on this forum for a while and following the ins and out, (been trying to concentrate on other sports - something I think may well continue going forward...) but I hope your pre season has gone as well as hoped and that you get back to winning more games than you lose and competing.

I know Fulham messed up a bit last season, but Villa do look like a club on the up, so we're probably pinning our hopes on finishing above 3 of Sheff U, Norwich, Burnley and maybe Brighton, but yes, we should definitely be among the 3 main faves to go down and PP did jokingly (I think) say they were paying out, ha. The most ironic thing is, when the takeover story broke late on that Monday night, some fans (as you do) put like Ā£5, Ā£10 on a top 4 finish and the next day the Ā£5's could be cashed out for Ā£17. Fast-forward 7 weeks and 4th bottom is the ultimate, possibly unrealistic aim. Grim.

Benitez kept Newcastle up the last 2 seasons with a sub-standard playing squad no better than ours.
Now that Bruce is in they'll be heading down, unless there's an influx of players..
Bruce belongs to a now bygone era of English/British managers (Pulis/Alladyce/Warnock etc) who can no longer cut it at the top level. Football, especially that in the premier league has taken several large steps forward and has consigned managers like this to the championship and below.

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48953813Been confirmed. Seriously why would a chequebook manager go to a club who's Chairman never opens his? Although Steve Bruce's greatest achievement has to be getting Sheffield Wednesday and United fans to agree on something.
