After the thread I posted about people's favourite striker, it got me thinking about 2nd strikers who chipped in alongside more prominent goalscorers. Andy Payton, Lee Novak and Ronnie Jepson spring to mind. Anyone got any other mentions? I had actually forgot about Payton but he did bag a few goals alongside Stewart, he was even our top goalscorer one season.

I really liked Payton, probably my favourite at the time.

Payton is the only ex-player I've booed on their return, tosser.

Payton had a bit of a reputation for putting himself before the team, ie he wouldn't mind losing 2-1 so long as he scored. I'm not sure if it's become a town myth or not but I've seen it mentioned on here before.

Stewart was the main man, but Clyde chipped in with his fair share as well.

Has to be Jeppo, both him & Boothy got 20+ goals in our promotion season.

Leon Knight was sort of a second striker despite scoring more than Booth.
He had a cracker of a season.

We got Paul Barnes in as a replacement, worked hard but hardly scored. Payton went to Burnley and went right off the rails, drink driving and running from Police apparently.

Can I not say Stewart again? Played like a creative second striker but just happened to score enough goals for a number nine.

Peter Fletcher alongside Ian Robins before Kindo arrived. 101 goals that season lest we forget. Still brings a smile to my face.

Wayne Allison. Wasn't quick, wasn't skillful, wasn't prolific. He worked his bollocks off for the team though and took the physical battering from defenders to free up Stewart.

Brian Stanton scored 40 odd for us out of 200 games yet wasn’t a striker. Jimmy Lawson similar.

Always liked Lee Novak for the way he came from non-league, grafted, helped Rhodes to flourish and pitched in with a fair few goals in League One. Plus, there will always be that image of him swinging at Coloccini in that terrible Newcastle yellow away kit.

Not sure you'd call him a 2nd striker as such, maybe you would, but I recall Phil Starbuck and Iwan Roberts having a pretty good partnership.
