Just came on to see if this had been posted. Quite a touching goodbye that, not the usual guff and I'd agree I think he actually wrote that himself. Always been on the fence with VLP but in fairness he bought into what we were doing at the time when he added tracking back into his game and would put Mbenza n Diakhaby to shame atm!

guys I am not sure if you are getting back handers from VLP but the fact remains he was at the club for over three years and spent 60% of that either not playing - loaned and not playing or playing "bertie big bollocks" and not playing ir poncing around on Twitter Now even the most dim witted doylum can see he was a poor player for Town - and in the few games he played he was at best average in no more than 10% of those games.
Cast your mind back to when he transferred here and we played Wolves.......the away fans I spoke to then all said he was trouble with delusions of grandeur. Surely you can remember the article stating he was using Town as a stepping stone to bigger things - or don't the rose tinted specs see that anymore ? -

Surely you can remember the article stating he was using Town as a stepping stone to bigger things - or don't the rose tinted specs see that anymore ? - So the 90 plus games he played in for us is only 40 percent of his potential playing time in three years here. Either I need a refresher course in maths or you do. By the way all players will use us as a stepping stone to greater things if they're good enough, we use that as an incitement to sign.

the fact remains 1. He played far fewer games that he should/could have 2. He was disruptive and caused issues amongst the other players 3. When he applied himeself there were glimpses of a good player 4. Now left to £better things" - good luck being a BAME player in a country with suspect ideas on racial harmony 5. my maths are just fine - but I have definite worries about your eyesight - maybe stronger rose tinted glasses are the order of the day - take a trip to specavers pal! - quick check showed he played 78 times in total not the 90 you claim 6. Agreed that good players move on to better things. Prob with Raj though the only person who thought he was any good was himself.....Wagner sussed him out.....Pulis sussed him out and Siewart didnt want him near the squad.
Sadly a marmite player - loved by some - despised by others.
But me move on....

Agree with terriertim, Wolves fans hated him with a passion, he failed and was found out at Boro and he has been hit and miss for town, the last 4/5 years of Stats for VLP don’t lies

It’s actually more (I think you’ve missed his loan spell) but as has been said ‘marmite’. My abiding memories are him carrying the ball up the pitch but then losing the ball when support arrived putting us under pressure and so little actual impact in the final third! But I’d which him success at the new club but not a favourite.

He was an essential component of the team that gave many of us the best season we've ever experienced as Town fans. Which makes him a success as that couldn't have been imagined when we bought him. He may not have been a PL standard player but still remained the best winger on our books in that time.

Failed? No wouldn’t say he did, I think he flattered to deceive at times and when he could be bothered to work he was great going forward with no end product, his biggest asset was his tracking back and helping the defence, think we are better without him as I think he was disruptive and only put a shift in whe he wanted to.

Understand your point, but better without him? Not sure I can agree that point. It’s the job of management to sort out any disruptive( alleged) disruptive behaviour. Strikes me that he needed a manager who had confidence in him.

That led to them focusing too much attention on him and giving us space in the rest of the pitch.

Fair point, VLP will always create debate and that is why 2 decent seasons with town in the last 6 years is hardly convincing, when he was on it he was on it and good to watch, but when he wasn’t on it he was pants, against Luton he was dire and it was clear he didn’t want to be a town player anymore, I wish him well where ever he goes, but, at this moment we are better off without him as he clearly wasn’t happy and carrying a player is not what town need right now

Putting it in context, VLP,S career started at Caan in 2008, there forvin 11 years as a pro he has racked up 267 games, it’s hardly convincing, 94 for town, I this it is fair to say his best period of football was the 2 with town.

Diakhaby is like a really shit VLP but cost £8M, Mbenza is not even worthy of comparison. Enough said I think.
