He was a twat. And deserved some retribution on the day. But not that. His career was unrecognisable to what it would have been as a result of that tackle

There was almost a bit of comedy gold after his accident. The ambulance arrived at the top of the steep hill, to the right of the main stand and reversed down the hill to be closer to the pitch. They put him on a stretcher and carried/wheeled it to the rear of the ambulance which was parked on the steep incline. I had a vision of them pushing him into the ambulance only for him to roll back out again and go splat on the floor. Unfortunately the ambulance men must have had similar thoughts because the driver then turned the ambulance around and so they could load him safely, shame!

13 years since we've played this lot in a league game. By far the longest spell since we ever really started playing them in 1975.

The only source of my ire for Mr. Watson is that in his court case he claimed the injury changed him from a top quality player into an average one... sorry Gordon, but you were ALWAYS average.

Shame the video doesn't show the lead up to the tackle.
Watson had gone through two town players in quick succession, Reid who you can see on the ground and Tommy Cowans ( I Think ) so it was clear to all in the ground that day what was coming Watsons way.
Also when the ambulance men were working on Watson, Kris Kamara the City manager came on to check on Watson - his record signing. On seeing the broken leg he did what is best described as a Basil Fawlty dance.Holding his head in his hands and leaping up and down in the air.
I know you should not laugh at such serious things but …...

I know the incident isn't really funny but I love that non league style first aid garage they carry him into.

I remember the game at home it was some months after Watson's injury and he was a sub, when he started warming up he looked very smug indeed but after a few minutes that vanished. town fans were very vocal! Was told that when they 1-0 up Richmond has a very smug look on his face, soon wiped off when Paul Barnes came on and turned the game for us, final score 2-1. Think Watson came on in the second half!

It is and they get an average of 19k punters in it😁 You would have though when they were massively over expanding one and a half sides they would have built in some changing rooms and proper facilities. Watching the teams run out from a house or whatever it is they get changed in reminds me of watching Brighouse Town.

Its a lean too addition to the back of the KAZI of the Asian takeaway situated there. You get changed with a load of taxi drivers sitting about waiting for a fare? It was that or just sticking a container there? 💩

Wasn't he the one that did Leeds up like a kipper when he played for Wed?
That tackle by KG was a shocker, but as some have said, it fails to show the incidents leading up to it, which were the main contributing factors. Had he not walloped our lads, KG would have made that tackle with his feet on the ground.
I can't remember the court case, but KG could hardly have stated that it was in direct retribution for what he'd done, otherwise that would have been case closed.
That challenge would be a borderline yellow nowadays...
If it had been made by Vincent Kompany...

Terrible tackle, remember it well.
I think the worst I’ve seen is Dean Saunders on Paul Elliott. Finished his career. Be good if someone on here can find some footage, I remember it being truly horrendous. However when it went to court Saunders somehow got off and it’s as though all footage of it has been removed from view - perhaps some form of injunction taken to remove such a blot from his career. There’s the odd article mentioning it but not a lot.

You’re right the Keane on Haaland was bad, particularly given the fact it was blatant retribution and later admitted; ridiculous! But, honestly, the Saunders one is a stinker. No back story of previous fouls on team mates or verbals whilst down injured; just a hate filled lunge. I like the conspiracy that he’s tried to have evidence of it removed. If only we could find it to compare!

The Ben Thatcher/Pedro Mendes one has to be up there. Or down there, however you want to put it.

If only we could find it to compare! That Saunders one on Paul Elliott was a shocker, really nasty. The worst one I've seen was by the horrible twat Gary Bennett (ex Wrexham), playing for Chester in a cup tie at Sheff Wed in the mid 80s. I remember watching it on Sportsnight on the BBC, it was a midweek replay. He launched himself at the Wednesday centre half, a young kid called Ian Knight, I think. Awful, horrific tackle that broke his leg in seven places. You could hear the snap on the TV. Bennett should have been banned for life for it.
