I think we'll see more and more of this as teams with a bit of money get the best players from those that don't have any. Especially so, if/when Newcastle women start making their way up the leagues. What? You mean like PL clubs hoovering up kids barely out of nappies and giving their parents massive inducements? Surely not…

Who's gone now? Can't see owt on their website? Looks like they've deleted the tweet, it said Georgia Marshall (I think) had left and signed for Burnley.

But teams can take the best players and pay them. Not massive amounts but who wouldn't get paid to play rather than pay to play? Just look at Town over the last couple of seasons, losing good players to Brighouse and Burnley. They've not even moved up a step. Think there'll be more to come as well.

To be fair, it was already 3-0 when Fletcher was sent off. Looked 6 of one and half a dozen of the other to me but when the ref gave them the free kick the red card card was inevitable. The first goal was a strange one with the Town players insisting that the ball hadn't crossed the line and that a defender had been fouled as well. Impossible to see from where we were stood but the goal only came about because the ref blocked a Town player from picking up a short pass from a team mate and Forest picked up the loose ball. Forest did deserve to win, they were the better team, but Town got the rough end of every 50/50 ball

I had meant to attend (as I usually would), but I'd spent the best part of three hours at Giltbrook and it had really taken it out of me, I just wanted to get home.

The 10-11am Sunday browsing hour is a godsend, as long as you remember to checkout bang on 11 and get the hell out of there... Jury's out on whether I'll make the Derby game on Sunday. Not looking forward to watching a Town game with no Elford.

(Sun) 05-3-2023... FA Women’s League (Northern Premier Division)
Derby County Women 2 v Huddersfield Town Women 1 (Hounsley 57’)
And so a heartbreaking loss for HTAFC Women as after hauling themselves back into the game to level after falling behind, Town lost to a goal right at the death to The Ramesse’s at The Mickleover Sports Centre...
Town are clearly missing the likes of The prolific Laura Elford and Georgia Marshall who have left for pastures new at Burnley -
So Town Women drop a place to 7th being leapfrogged by Stoke Women in 6th however we do have two games in hand over Stoke Women and three games in hand over Brighouse Town Women and should we win these it’ll be back to 5th place this year and that’s probably the highest Town Women will finish in the League though the ladies have a cup final to look forward to v Doncaster Belle’s in The Sheffield & Hallemshire County Cup Competition ! 👍

I don't understand the hate you originally got for saying Huddy. You're not the first person I've heard call us that (or the last incidentally) and there's plenty of words/places/people who get truncated and a "y" added. That's why I stuck up for you when you were being called out for it

The official htafc women's Twitter account is very interesting reading atm Seen alot of the players complaining about lack of funding. I'm in two minds about it all. Someone above mentioned Doncaster Belles who were for a long time the best Womens team in England, certainly the North but as bigger mens teams have started to financially supoort their womens sides they fell away. Belles were replaced by Man Utd women not that long ago approximately 5 years, the first ever season Man U had a womens team. I can see it serving a purpose for Man U or Man City to financially support their female teams and I'm sure we'll see the top four or five mens teams dominate the womens sport too...Which is tremendously sad. As much as I want Huddersfield Town women to do the very best they can and know they will be left behind if the mens team dont fund them...why should Town be funding the womens team? What are the tangible benefits for Town to fund the womens team? Is it worth Town supporting them to go professional? How important is it to the Community? Why should DH put his hand into his pocket for them, he doesn't own them or does he? Genuinely looking for benefits to a Club like Town.

Maybe it's cos they've worked so hard to get where they are and now are having the better players lured away by teams that are better backed by their men's team.

I mean this with no disrespect at all but there is a rather large difference between how much money the mens team generate in comparison to the women. I look forward to the day when women's sport is self sufficient in terms of funding and infrastructure. I fear we are a long way away but in a better place than we were 10 years ago

But the mens team isn’t being backed either ? Are the men paying for their own kit? At no cost at all, the club could support the women by advertising their matches on social media and at men's matches. They could put information about them on their website. At a pretty negligible cost they could sort them out with kit and let them use the Canalside gym on an evening and make a physio available once a week. I think it is obvious to anyone that the current owners aren't even funding the men's team so hopefully a new owner can come in and support both teams. The women's team is at a tipping point and can either push on and upwards or miss the boat, giving future fans and players no high level team to watch or aspire to play for.

If you build it....
The potential of women's football in this country is clear, look at the lionesses last summer. Lots going on with the club at the minute so not expecting owt now, but I hope the new owners can see sense.
I would be ticked off if I had played for Town since I was a kid, beating professional teams every season (I believe we've been among the best performing amateur women's team pretty consistently the last few years), and was having to pay for my gear. Then to be wheeled out by the men's side for international women's day when there's no material support for women's football coming from the club.

I guess from what has been posted, the issue lies around the fact Town want the positive publicity of having a Women's team, without actually making any investment in it. Since last summer you would have thought more might have been done to capitilise on the interest in women's football. Obviously nobody knows what goes on behind the scenes, but for the HTAFCWOMEN twitter page to be posting those thoughts, suggests they are fighting a losing battle and the club aren't backing them as other clubs are. Unfortunately the circumstances around the club won't have helped and the Women are going to be left behind, which is a shame as 2/3 years ago they were arguably the best team in their division. For the last few years they've been in and around the top of their division. Even a tiny bit of investment may have pushed them to the next level. Instead their best players are being poached by clubs who DO have the support of their mens' teams. Sad to see, especially if they're hypocritically highlighting them on International Women's Day.

I don’t disagree with any of the above. My point was more given the current mess the club is in i’m not sure why they actually expect anything given that the owners are obviously not remotely interested in anything that improves the club as a whole.
