I thought the team played well. Definitely significant improvements in passing and getting forward. There were signs of cohesion and a game plan.
It looks like a brilliant appointment by the board. I can feel a definite climb up the table and possibly a playoff place.
On the the other hand we were fucking shite. As usual.

We did OK. Plenty to be positive about. Just a clear lack of understanding and cohesion but that will come.
Keith Andrews on Sky could see what we were trying to do.
This was new managers first game and he'll have learned more in these 90 mins than the last 5 days.
Unfortunately we have to be patient.

Thought first half we were ok but second half poor. Cowley needs to get rid of this slow passing back to goal first pass backwards or sideways mentality to make us more effective and give us a chance of winning games.

It looked pretty indistinguishable from the last nine months worth of total dross to me 🤔 I think a lot of the problem is under the previous regimes they've had ant sense of attacking, aggressive and risk taking football coaches out of them in favour of possession based, boring, conservative football that they haven't a clue how to win a game now. I don't think we've seen a defense splitting passing since Powell was manager, I know it was dire undr him at time but at least there was a chance of a goal.

Pretty much nothing there for me. Think the Cowleys have a huge task on there hands. The last 18 months worth of despondency hangs heavy round our necks like Millstones. The belief has gone, and worryingly in some cases the effort and care has disappeared. Some on that pitch are stealing a living. It’s going to take some time to sort this. It may involve jettisoning out a few big names. It may even involve us having to start again in League 1. The rot is so severely set in through this team and the club that sadly if that is what it takes, it will have to be. BUT. listening to Danny’s post match interview with Oggy gives me huge hope and belief in the Cowley’s. He was reeling off some impressive knowledge about our players and just shows the homework these lads have done and they know what needs to be done. Anyway going to have my Sunday lunch now and forget about it. Because these days it’s easy to just shrug the shoulders and move on. It doesn’t hurt as much as it once did because I am so used to defeat. But that got me thinking. What if the players can do just that? Go home for Sunday lunch, shrug the shoulders and move on? If there is no pain. No hurting. No soul searching, how do they snap out of this melancholy and make it so it matters? Make it so they want it again? Because until they stop feeling sorry for themselves, pull their socks up and give a shit, this is what’s going to get served up for us weekend after weekend and no amount of physical training sessions can sort that. Most of this is all in the mind.

They’ve inherited a mess from JS
Again we were blowing in the last 10 mins and are unfitter than our peers
A unbalanced squad with Kongolo out of position
Summer signings which are presently way short of our level meaning we picked 3 defensive mids (with a fourth on the bench) when we needed at least one player in the middle comfy picking passes (Reece brown?)
No chance to sign anyone until 2020
That’s before you look at the mental fragility!
Big job ahead

2 touch passing, trying to play with a quicker tempo but final touch sloppy. I saw that in the 1st 10 mins. After that we went back to the slow, pointless passing. The Cowleys first took training on Tuesday, Friday is usually just shape and several were on international duty. It will come...

I don’t think they intend to play that style... I think that’s more the players default to it as it’s been drilled in to them for 3 years. Cowley said we played too slow - he knows it needs to change.

Although I don’t think Elphick was too bad today.

People have selective memories with Wagner. We were terrible towards the end under him and the run under him was the defining moment in getting relegated. We lost to pretty much everyone in the bottom third at home. Unfortunately the board appointed siewart and did no preparation for Championship football.

apparently, we have had one win in 298 days and we are in free fall. Can the Cowleys turn us around, personally i don't think so but i don't think anyone can turn us around, because too many players are not up to it.

The only threat came with Kongolo and Chalobah charging forward and running direct. That said there were some nice moves down the flanks. I'm pretty sure we established early on that Elphick and Flo is a disaster waiting to happen. We could accomodate Flo's charging forward if a) Elphick resembled an athletic defender or b) Hogg had to foresight to drop in to RB as cover. As it is Elphick is dire and Hogg points a lot but does sod all.

didn't Jan inherit a mess from Lord Wagner? We were competitive until the start of December Then DW walked and we found JS - worse manager in my 25+ years following - and the wheels truly fell off It’s not all JS fault obviously but he clearly took us backwards We were only competitive because we packed the defence and midfield with holding players. We never, ever looked like scoring goals and whenever the opponents scored first -as they usually did - we caved in because we had no options going forward. It's been pretty much the same since Spurs, Game 7 Season 1.

We hit the woodwork more times than any other side and had dog luck with ref decisions - eg Liverpool at home with the pen and Pritchard offside goal We were 14th I believe at the start of December

We were robbed against palace at home - deserved at least a draw but undone by zaha brilliance and mounie miss Lost to spurs two nil but well in but rose dive for a pen did us and lolo got the woodwork Should have played 10 men at Burnley after the elbow on Schindler Played well against West Ham and a fraction off winning (billing hitting the post) It’s history but I don’t think we were that short until December when it came apart and accelerated under JS
