I can remember Peter Willis from the 70's who always seemed to have an agenda with us but to be honest nowadays I know lots of different incidents with lots of refs but can no longer place them - what did this star do ? Peter Willis was quite complimentary about Town when I spoke to him in May.[ Do I take it you were too young to be following Town in the mid 70's ? Only I've never known a Town fan who was watching them when he was in charge that can abide him, his first and possibly worst incident with us was 75/76, first season in Div.4 and we had a genuine "4 pointer" at Tranmere with the probable outcome that the winners would be promoted, Rovers got 3 penalties, won 3-0, went up in 4th place, Town missed out in 5th, although to be fair we also lost at home to Southport at home in the next game, they finished second bottom. He was a big, ugly brute of a man, worked as a copper in Durham, I also remember David Ellery being a schoolteacher and even saw the 1974 World Cup Final ref.,Jack Taylor (who awarded a penalty against West Germany in the first minute) take charge of a Town v Newport game in 1975 but as i said in my first post I know most of the names of today's lot but can never tie them down to particular games. Might be my age or they're making lots more mistakes, not sure.

That's all we need. The only referee I have seen who I can definitely say without doubt was deliberately cheating and forcing a result.
I can remember Peter Willis from the 70's who always seemed to have an agenda with us but to be honest nowadays I know lots of different incidents with lots of refs but can no longer place them - what did this star do ? Charlton at home I think Lillis was in charge. It was worse than anything before or since, and that's saying something. Many things through that match but the lowlights were: Sent a Town player off which was later rescinded (how often does that happen?), disallowed perfectly good goal and in the last minute with Town winning 1-0 Vaughan was scythed down about to put the ball into a virtually empty net, incredibly he refused the most blatant penalty, Charlton go up the other end and equalise.

We were still booing Willis in the 80s. It became a bit of a joke, I think he enjoyed it to be honest

Seemed very harsh at the time, couldn't for the life in me understand why. Got in conversation with Steve about 25 years later, he remembered it but held his hand up and admitted it was his own fault. I still hated Peter Willis for all that.

Grabara

stankovic
Schindler
Kongolo
Hogg
Chalobah
bacuna
Pritchard
O'brien
Mounie
i imagine nobody else would go with that. My thinking is we need to keep hold of the ball more. mbenza,Diakahby and im afraid Grant give it away too much.

Best start with 9 men and leave Hogg and Bacuna out if you want to keep the ball more

You might want to edit your title as its Brom not From. Another point is that anyone who puts Flo on our proposed team sheet needs look at his contribution as a defender. Whilst he can get forward even our new manager had to constantly tell him to get back and do his primary role of defending. He cannot / won`t tackle and that was best illustrated in our last game when he allowed the cross to come in for the first goal. Equally Mounie to me does not really want to be here as he thought he was going to get a transfer. I would rather play Grant as he has proved he can score whereas Mounie simply cannot.
Final note there is already a West Brom match thread so maybe you should have added your thoughts on there rather than starting an additional thread.

Absolutely robbed of 2 points. I've never forgotten his name. Worst ever and I'm going back to mid 70s

Tim fucking Robinson. God help us. Nick Pope in Charlton goal and getting away with a 'mare with his air-kick when challenged by Wells. Yup - ref had an absolute stinker that day. I was told that the club gave him a rating of 1 in their post-match report and that the ref assessor was less than complimentary about him.

I'm Baggie bound this weekend - the Hawthorns has always been one the best away fixtures but I've never hit on the famed Social Club near the ground that does real ale and Balti. Sky - as ever have screwed up things by changing date and time of kick-off but I'm still hopeful of a Balti breakfast. Do any of you know the name of this legendary Club and where it is?

You are right. We won almost every time Willis was in charge in the later games. He actually seemed biased towards us.

Early doors to be naming a team, but here goes... Grabara Bockhorn Stankovic Kongolo Brown Chalobah Bacuna Diakhaby Brown Grant Campbell O’Brien could count himself unlucky but I’ve picked a team who wants to look to play forward. I was also tempted to give Schofield a run but Grabara holds his place for now. Any team that doesn't include Hogg and elphik gets my vote, Both have been shite.

One player who gets a free ride at the moment is Grant. Apart from West Ham, has he been that good? Folk have got excited about him far too early. Mounie and Campbell in front of him from me on past achievements. As the only person in our team who can actually score, he's top of the list for the 9 role. Totally wasted out wide. It's not so simple though, because he isn't that good at holding it up. He's not terrible in that respect, but it certainly ain't a strength atm. He clearly needs a role where he gets plenty of opportunity to get into the box, but we're potentially going to have problems if he is the spearhead. Let's see what the Cowley's try to implement. Hopefully they can workout something that gets the most out of him.
