There has always been a saying "something is worth what someone is prepared to pay" so in theory if a Valuer values the ground at say £60m and another business is prepared to pay that figure then not sure (legally) what law has been broken. Breaking the spirit of the rules of football is difficult to prove in law particulary if a Professional Commercial Valuer has come up with the £60m figure. Because of Covid19 it is highly possible that these grounds could be sold back at a massively reduced value on the basis they are sports grounds with no current income or likely income for the future than the whole transaction can be done again to inject monies into the club in a number of years when values are "perceived" to have increased again as fans are returning (providing income). The phrase ‘something is only worth what someone will pay for it’ simply isn’t true. Try selling your house to your son for £50 if you think it is. Agree 100%. Would be very suspicious as I don't have a son.

The most likely absolute deadline for deciding the Wendies fate will be 4th August after the Championship play-off final, when “transfer of membership” between divisions is then officially ratified. I still maintain that the Wendies will be automatically relegated.

I still maintain that the Wendies will be automatically relegated. I think they'll be given a points deduction So they end up in 21st place. Can't be losing Leeds and Wednesday out of the division. It wouldn't go down well with Sky.

www.efl.com/news/2020/july/efl-statement-ongoing-disciplinary-proceedings/EFL statement: ongoing disciplinary proceedings The League continues to receive questions on a regular basis in respect of updates to ongoing proceedings involving the EFL and its member Clubs. We recognise the desire amongst stakeholders, not least from our own members, but also their respective supporters and representatives of the media, for clarity on the current position. At the point a Club is charged with misconduct, it is referred to an Independent Disciplinary Commission and from that point onwards, the format and timing of the proceedings are controlled by that of the Independent Commission. Our stated position and the policy agreed with our Clubs is that we do not pass any comment on these individual matters, other than to confirm the charges at the outset and the subsequent outcomes. The EFL is committed to announcing any final outcome promptly following notification of the decision by the relevant Independent Disciplinary Commission, giving consideration to the issues raised above and in accordance with its regulations. Independent Disciplinary Commissions are well aware of the challenges for any Club that is subject to proceedings, and the need for clarity for financial and operational planning purposes, particularly ahead of the summer transfer window opening later this month. In addition, there is also the consequential impact to consider on how any decisions may affect other Clubs within a division who require the same courtesy to plan with as much certainty as is practically possible. Equally, there are the operational pressures this presents the EFL, in areas such as fixture scheduling in the event any decision(s) change a divisional line-up. In the specific case of Wednesday evening’s final round of Championship matches for season 2019/20, and any potential impact on divisional standings, relegation will be confirmed for the Clubs in 22nd, 23rd and 24th positions in the Championship table following the conclusion of those matches and will be subject to the resolution of any ongoing proceedings. In the case of Wigan Athletic the 12-point sporting sanction, as a result of the Club entering administration, will apply immediately following the end of the game against Fulham but is subject to appeal. Nevertheless, the primary objective of any Independent Disciplinary Commission is to deal with cases expeditiously and fairly. We will be providing no further comment on any ongoing proceedings at this time.

Points to be deducted next season.

Exactly what I think. So the points will be deducted immediately after the Fulham game. If they are not in a relegation position then the points will be deducted next year. If they are in a relegation position the points will be deducted thereby relegating them but if they win the appeal the points will be added back. But all has to be concluded by the transfer of share date on the 4th August? So potentially a number of clubs could go into the last 10 mins of the last game with the score at 0 0 not knowing whether they need to win to stay up or the draw they have nearly got might be enough. Or they need to wait 2 weeks to find out whether they have been relegated or not. Doesn't sound fair to me.

Points to be deducted next season. The Massive to have points deducted next season, upto a maximum -21. That would be brilliant.

I have to say that a massive points deduction could be on the cards but all is being fudged so it doesn't get applied till next season when they have a whole 46 games to pull it back. Don't think as high as 21 though but well towards that figure.

Anyone know when this one is due to play out? Wasn't there going to be some declaration on 31 July, or did I dream that?

If there is any punishment I assume they will announce it after the season formally finishes when they transfer the "golden share" or whatever they call it. Around early August. But I assume they will deduct it at the end of the season like they did with Wigan so we will spend all year recalculating league tables.

Saw a different thread about this as well. Stevenage did finish bottom and in theory deserve to be relegated. I think their case about points reductions to Macclesfield are completely valid as Macclesfield have clearly bought players, loaned players, paid players (or not as the case may be) far better than they can really afford and have therefore gained a competitive advantage over clubs who have played by the rules.

I see Barnsley are being asked for their "views" at the Wigan appeal. Why? Surely it is a simple process - Wigan either convince the Panel that what happened was a complete "one off" reason why the Shareholders/Directors had to put the Company into Administration and they have proved evidence that this is the case or they haven't and the points deduction stands.

If Wigan win then Barnsley will want to take some kind of legal action to appeal it. I guess this heads that off.

Worrying re: Charlton. As easy as it is to pour scorn on Lee Bowyer I can't help but feel for their fans. It's a proper club that one way or another appears to have been mismanaged horribly.
I hope they can sort things out.

Maybe the EFL are concocting a scheme whereby there are 25 teams in the championship next season. Would not be surprised at anything the buffoons come up with.

All this bother with Charlton, Stevanage, Macclesfield is because ther EFL board are a disgrace. They make the bloody rules then have not the guts to implement them. They shit themselves at the thought of legal action over this, that or the other. As we all know it is about the integrity of the game. And it would appear the Saudis ie MBS , have pulled out of the Newcastle bid, more shady goings on. Bet Bruce is relieved he will not be taken into the dressing rooms and chopped up!

The be honest I thought about that as well or are the ELF trying to assertain ( by a round a bout way) whether Barnsley would be prepared to accept compensation and go down quietly. I just don't see any reason why Barnsley should be at the hearing.

Surely not. A football club run by, when it comes down to it, a totalitarian state fronted by an evil despot. Probably ticks all the right boxes in the PL fit and proper analysis.

This is not a dig aimed at you, you've been a regular on here and always seem a decent chap, so I've no axe to grind with you,but I bet a pound to a penny you and the rest of the Toon Army celebrated when Ashley came in, gave you chance to ten pound notes at the Mackems and all that. Football fans do, a wealthy new owner means expectations and hopes go through the roof. We did it 20 years ago when Rubery came in, I've still got a framed picture, signed by Stuart & Thornley, of the stadium with fireworks lighting up the night sky for his first game, an FA Cup replay vs Wrexham, the PL was now possible. Within 2 and a half years Peter Jackson was gone, Steve Bruce was gone and Lou Macarí couldn't stop us going into the third tier and we were within minutes of oblivion. Blackpool, Pompey,Charlton, Wigan, Coventry, L**ds, the list goes on of clubs that celebrated a new owner coming in and then regretted it. Beware what you wish for.
