There was a lot of huffing and puffing in Huddersfield’s 0-0 draw at Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night but quality was sadly lacking from front to back. Honorary exceptions were Harry Toffolo, who capped a hard-working display with a pinpoint cross that an unmarked Fraizer Campbell should have put into an empty goal, and Jonas Lossl who made several tremendous saves to keep Town in the match. This could turn out to be a point gained but our almost total lack of incisive play or goal threat gives me no hope of gaining any more points from our last two games.
This draw saw the Terriers remain in 20th place, now on 48 points, but Charlton Athletic, on 46 points in 21st, play on Wednesday at a demoralised Birmingham City, and Stoke City and Barnsley also have games over the next two days.
West Bromwich Albion (WBA) visit us next Friday, 17 July, kick off 17:30 in an encounter that Sky have made a late decision to televise. As usual, this means that only season ticket holders can see the match on iFollow. WBA are in 2nd place, on 82 points, with Brentford breathing down their necks. They have by far the best away record in the Championship of 12-7-3.
We met the West Midlands outfit frequently in the 1990s, but since 2000 we have met them in Huddersfield just three times with a 1-0-2 record in all competitions. We last played them in Yorkshire on 4 November 2007, when we won 1-0 in the Premier League. The reverse fixture, on 22 September 2019, was a 4-2 defeat, after leading twice. Following that game, Danny Cowley said his side have "forgotten how to win". Candidly, with our opponents having much to play for, I can’t see anything other than a defeat in this match.
Paddy Power make the Baggies overwhelming favourites with their current odds being: Home: 7/2 Draw: 5/2 Away: 4/6
Addendum
Bristol City 1 Stoke City 1 Birmingham City 1 Charlton Athletic 1 Jutkiewicz did us a big favour with a 93rd minute equaliser!
Town remain in 20th. Unless Wigan's penalty is overturned, one more point from the last two matches looka enough for us to stay up and we may have enough already.

We win this and we're pretty much safe.
Back to reality though.
It's going to be a horrible Wednesday next week hoping other clubs are worse than us in the day.

I have a feeling this will be an easier game for us than them. Massive pressure on them after a few poor games. There will be space and town do play better against teams who don't put all men behind the ball
Who knows

We’re currently playing with players not even putting the minimum effort in ... that may be enough against teams already on the beach and who are equally going through the motions but as we’ve seen it’s very different when we’ve played Wigan, forest and Luton
11 v 11 would be tough but it’s more like 11 v 9
Throw in that we have no goals in the side and. a nil all draw is the very best I’m hoping for

This is a massive three points for us and them. Not feeling confident though, they have too much quality throughout that side...and us, well, if our players can be arsed we could maybe push them to a draw, but honestly I can't see anything but a defeat. Sad times

Good god we are shite.. has happened to our team? The only saving grace recently is that covid has denied us the chance to actually watch this turgid boring crap in person.. But there’s no escape from this game.. It’s on telly.. So will have to endure the full 90.. Thanks sky.. 😡

Usual case with town. If we score first then we will probably play well and get something. Concede first and it's game over. Expect Cowley to set up for 0 0.

I can’t call this one. On paper West Brom should stroll it but as someone said in another post, which was the best smile DATM has given me for a long while, we don’t play on paper 🙂

Best we can hope for is 0-0 from this and the Millwall game. Two draws will see us safe, I'm certain of it. But I can't see us scoring

You can’t see where the next goal is going to come from and we have very fragile confidence.
Hoping for a 0-0 as I don’t think we can score.
Lossl Chalobah Schindler Stearman Toffolo Hogg O’Brien Bacuna ESR Grant Campbell
Some of those players have been shit recently but they are the best we have. Bacuna is a massive liability but one of the few players who actually offers something going forwards. Campbell can’t score but Mounie seems to do much better coming off the bench.

Not normally a fan but PARK THE FUCKING BUS 0-0 will be fantastic.
Two draws see's us safe, hopefully Millwall have nothing to play for and the best we can hope on Friday is to play the clock down and make it a snooze fest.

If WBA can't beat us they shouldn't be anywhere near the top 2.

We need Leeds to win on Thursday as that will probably leave WBA thinking they can not win the title and lose some ambition and of course no points for Barnsley too - the Brentford result tonight is also a factor

Think weve looked better in away games recently because taking the game to an opponent ( as you tend to do as the home side ) doesnt suit us at all.
So I actually expect this game will suit us more than recent home games as WBA will be here to take the initiative.
They are under immense pressure and have been stuttering towards the end of the season for a long time. This isnt a given for them in any way IMO.

I think going for a 0-0 is our only hope of getting out of this mess. We’re not going to score again this season, so it leaves us no choice. 0-0 seems to have been the Huddersfield way over the years. It got us up. Let’s hope it keeps us up!

We need to channel our inner Burton and get the most awful 1-0 victory ever. If Barnsley don’t beat Leeds it makes it very simple, 3 points for safety

Really? Which out of the team yesterday did you not see putting in effort? I saw a team who put their bodies on the line regularly. Grant is the only one whose body language exudes negativity, but he was still chasing and harrying. Don't mistake lack of effort and lack of form/ability. We suffer massively from the latter in my opinion.

0-0 written all over for this match, Town do not like conceding or scoring for that matter, why upset a pattern.
