Shame to see him go, I will remember the first season in the Premier League, and without his goals, we would have only managed 1 season in the top flight, some of them absolutely crucial. In the 2 seasons after, we might as well have not bothered playing with a striker, as our attacking was almost non existent, and he didnt really have a chance with the service provided to him. I think if he had played in the Leeds, West Brom or Brentford teams last year, I genuinely think he would have helped himself to plenty of goals. Add that to the fact he wasnt one of the big earners that threw their toys out of the pram, and not one of the ones stuck in the u23's or loaned out because he wasnt giving 100%. I think he will thrive back in France. Those teams had attackers with far better movement than Mounie's. It doesn't matter how good the service is if you aren't finding space and getting in front of defenders. Nice guy without a doubt but it's been the odd decent spell for us rather than anything consistent.

I've got some great memories as a Town fan and Selhurst Park in August 2017 is right up there with the best of them. He looked an absolute beast that day. There were other goals that were memorable as well - Blackburn at home (my vote for Goal of the Season), Hull City away and Wolves at home.
The break in the season came at a bad time for him. He always struck me as a confidence player and he'd just started getting a few goals again. He never seemed to get that back again when the season restarted.
He always struck me as a decent guy and he didn't throw a tantrum like some of the others when he was out of the team. He gave the impression that he cared and his leaving statement bears that out.
Good luck Steve - hopefully someone else will play to your strengths better.

As pointed out we were unable to play to his strengths so I assume that we didn't quite see the best of him in the blue and white.
Like every other player who leaves in a decent manner, I wish him well for the future. ATB Steve.
And, as ever:

Lovely fellow. Didn’t have a poor attitude like some. Very mediocre striker at Premier/Championship level. Always on the back foot, lack of awareness, never prepared to make near-post runs. Good luck to him in the future.

Kind of the opposite of Dennis Bergkamp, for example.

Never really played to his strengths but a top professional who showed commitment to the club in many ways even when things were tough.
Palace away...one of the greatest if not the greatest away game in my 40 years watching just for what it meant.
Good luck Steve 💙

Good luck, big Steve, for the future. Despite not being rated by some on here I reckon his sending off against Brighton in our second season was the turning point. We were leading in that game and when Mounie went the game was up. We never recovered. Steve's goals were memorable such as the ones against Crystal Palace, Brighton and Brighton away. But the way he was treated was odd. We never played to his strengths and then when Pritchard came along we did not seem to trust them together in the Premiership or last season in the Championship. I think we wasted his talents and I am sure he will be a success at Brest.
But the question is now, who comes next? If there is no replacement then we are staring relegation in the face with an embarrassing points total. I am really worried about the way Town are being run and if the answer is relegations then two key questions have to be why were players not signed to avoid it and why were the Cowley brothers sacked? The answer to the second is probably because they wanted to buy some players that Town considered to be too expensive. How expensive is relegation?

Not because i liked them, i didn’t, but because i assumed the same as above. I was/am worried those in charge don’t think we need quality, experienced players to compete.

Good luck Steve, top day at Selhurst Park so will always hold good memories for me. I never worked out why his second goal against Bournemouth at home went down as an own goal.

Anyone at Selhurst Park August 2017, either physically or in spirit, will always remember Steve Mounie. We eventually got there about a minute before he scored that header.Everyone going totally ballistic. Unforgettable Top bloke and fireman.

Can’t be the only one that, as mental as it sounds, fully believes if he hadn’t been sent off we’d of still been a premier league club last season. The team was starting to click and everything just came tumbling down in the few weeks that followed that. The Pritchard penalty decision as well still really rules me

I do think we’d have got Some points from Brighton, Arsenal and Bournemouth though,

Maybe his biggest regret is that he didn't actually follow through on that Brighton player, instead of doing the right thing...

That day at palace I thought wow. What a player we’ve got here. By the time he left pitch at West Ham his contribution was virtually over.
Nowhere near good enough. All the attributes to be a great player. Such a shame he never really hit those heights again.

Also apparently a pair of bullies ? and certainly not liked by a lot of the backroom staff.? Ok I only have heard these rumours but can honestly say that i didnt take to them . There’s no evidence whatsoever of this: neither here nor at any of their previous clubs. The idea they would act as billy-big-bollocks here, which they acknowledged was by far the biggest club they had managed, but not at Lincoln, Concord etc. is utterly ridiculous. Accusing them of bullying with zero evidence comes across as straw-clutching at best, delusional arse-holery at worst. Whether it was the right decision to get rid of them will be played out in the results this season imo...
