I generally don’t really slate Town players. In fact it’s rare for me but up until his goal, after which he was immediately subbed, he did pretty much nothing again. Offers zero threat, can’t keep hold of the ball, shit in the air, passes going wayward. He was poor. Again. Yes he runs about a lot. Again. Great performance by the team today but any single professional striker in League 2 could have done exactly what Danny Ward did today. Not good enough for the football we are trying to play. Our weak link. Can't hold the ball up? Did you even watch the game today or is that just a preset opinion that won't change no matter what he does? I’m not getting in to some drawn out debate over it. Great day, great win. Ward was shit and can’t hold the ball up and keep possession. My opinion.

Great day, great win. Ward was shit and can’t hold the ball up and keep possession. My opinion. He held the ball up really well, particularly when isolated, and rarely gave it away today. He's been a terrible signing overall. But I don't see how people can't give him credit when he does well.

I still maintain we need more than what Ward has to offer.
I do though think today he put a good shift in. And to be fair, I prefer Campbell but Ward was better than Campbell today.

Our weak link. About 10 mins in Town are attacking Ward is between both CB's, neither of them marking him, in the middle of the 18 yard line. O'Brien has the ball 10 yards from him and instead of seeing the pass and putting him through he turns and passes back to Pearson. 🤨 For the first half Hogg and O'Briens passing made me think of Steve Doyle and Phil Wilson

Can we bring Mounie back please! Imagine how many he’d get with those crosses coming in from Thomas?

Thought he did some good stuff today and some poor touches as well. Worked his socks off and deserved his well-taken goal. As an aside, Sinani looks to have excellent vision, but he gave the ball away far more than Ward today.

Agree, DW put in a great shift today and found his scoring boots, Sinani tried some good things which is testimony to his vision, his touch isn't perfect yet but it will come which is very promising for us. UTT.

Credit where it’s due. He had a good game today. He was useless in the first half and barely better in the second So instead we brought Campbell on - who did absolutely nothing other than, trying to lob the stranded goalkeeper, gently directed his attempt into the midriff of the grateful goalie. My granddaughter could have done better. When Ward scored his goal we reckoned that Campbell would just have been entering the penalty area if he'd been on !

Ward played well today. Watched full match re run with Reading commentary on and they were gushing with praise for him throughout, about how well he was playing and how good a player he is.

Danny said in his interview he had some banter with JK wondering if he would ever pass to him, which may have had the desired effect. Danny doesn’t have the energy levels of Thomas or O’Brien and he won’t score as many as Grant did but he put in a shift yesterday and took his goal well. They look to be gelling as a team now and they all played their part.

Yep, agree with the supportive posts. Ward needed a run in the team to get going. Whilst Mounie would score a lot and other something different (Rhodes job) the crosses such as he thrives off don't really come from open play from us and we're converting enough of the excellent Thomas dead balls with our CBs anyway, who are all on it. Hoping Ward keeps building relationships, confidence and stays fit. He he finds the gaps and get played in, he will do the business I reckon.

He was in the box when balls were played in pretty much every time as I remember. The excellent run from Thomas for the first goal ended with a very bobbly cross which Danny and the defender missed but he was always an option for a pass.

Ward has been poor last season and the start of this but had a really good game yesterday.
As well as his all around play yesterday, I did notice him making several runs off the shoulder of defenders where the pass never came!
More of the same!!

He did pretty well at holding up the ball when he was isolated up front.
I made a point of keeping an eye on him in the first half and he is constantly trying to make runs in behind their defence. Always ignored which is a shame but it pushes back their defence and creates space for Koroma and Sinani. Very important with the way we play.
At one point in the first half O’Brien could have played him in one on one with the keeper with a simple pass but chose to go out to Thomas.
We need to start creating more for him.

I could have picked quite a few threads on here to make this point, but this is the most current.
We win a game by 4 clear goals, not against a non league minnow in the cup, but a league game. Back in the day before these forums, you might have had a gripe in the pub or at work, but those gripes stay within that group in the main. Nowadays these gripes will probably have the effect of breeding a much younger group of whinging bastards, who will be getting curmudgeonly way before their time.
We won 4-0, it might be a freak, but FFS just enjoy it…
On a separate theme, but on the subject of young fans, did anyone see that young West Ham fan on MOTD after their second goal yesterday? He can’t have been more than 12, but he looked like he was on something. His expression wouldn’t have looked out of place on a coked up twenty yr old.

Didn't have a particularly good game IMO, however apart from his goal their was one moment in the second half where he took down and controlled a pass at the edge of the penalty area that was brilliant.
