I'd have him back if an extra winger was anywhere near the top of the club's priorities. I think it'd risk unbalancing the squad big time if we brought him in. If we get in a striker or two, and another couple of midfielders, and he's still available, then sure.

If we get in a striker or two, and another couple of midfielders, and he's still available, then sure. If we were looking to add a winger I'd prefer one who could cross, shoot straight, create chances and score more than a couple of goals a season as a bare minimum. VLP fails on every criteria. He does have a nice smile though, and "gets the team up the field" almost as quickly and as far as a punt from the keeper would, albeit in twice the time.

I think even the haters can now agree that VLP was one of the best wingers we've had at the club. The criticism he used to get was ridiculous and unfortunately it's been put firmly in perspective by the absolute gash we've had on the wings since.
I'd love to see him back, he's got the athleticism for the style Carlos wants too. That was another of his attributes totally ignored by his detractors.

You have seen the wingers we currently have yes? VLP is a league above all of them, therefore he'd be a huge improvement to the squad. We probably can't afford him though so don't worry you'll still get to see Koroma, Diakhby and Mbenza pretending to be championship players. I actually like Koroma but he shouldn't be starting. Reposting this from the transfer thread.
Pros - he has pace and some trickery, good defensively, notoriously good at getting a team 50 yards up the field.
Cons: end product is unusual (goals, assists count is low), can be selfish), posts amiguously and teasingly on Instagram.
Adding a further con from the original post: he has not pulled up any trees at the 3 clubs he has played for over the last 2 seasons. Allegedly sold during a game at Town, sent home early from Middlesbrough and contract terminated at Red Star. He may not be the player he was in 2016/17 and 2017/18.

Even so i don't think he's coming back

How many players have excited you at Town in recent years? VLP was the one player who would look to take his man on and whenever he got the ball in forward areas he’d immediately drag 2 defenders with him. Personally I’d prefer to watch a player like this when I go to a game.

Up until his sending off at home to City in the first prem season he was our best player. And yes better than Mooy.
That red card pretty much derailed his career.

Not from what I saw but it’s an opinion, I would have put him in the middle of the pack behind both centre halves mooy Hogg and strangely big steve

Don’t think it will happen, but could see him and Toffolo linking really well if it did.
At £750k, for his contributions to his first 2.5 seasons here - he surely must go down s one of our best ever signings, £ for £. Was immense for huge spells and pivotal in our success. All for the price of a week and a half of an injured Gareth Bale :-P

We need to sign players who can contribute assists and goals on a reasonably consistent basis.
Wherever you stand on VLP, he simply doesn't do enough of either. We can't afford any more attacking players who don't set up or score goals.

If not RVLP walks in to this side - he’s streets ahead of Pritchard, Mbenza, Diakhaby etc and work harder than all of them.

Not many players I'd have back but I believe RVLP is far better than our current options. So why not? And as I've just asked on Rhodes, in between all the arguing, I'm struggling to see where this rumour originated.
