They were also a little sneaky in signing him as he doesn’t qualify under the new rules. They made sure he was “living” at a uk address on the 29th (and so a “resident”) two days before we left the transition period. Haven't we effectively done the same with Grant? I don’t think the Republic of Ireland is under as tight regulations. |

These are the kind of gems we should be looking at, signed him on a free. No guarantee due to the difference in quality but if you want cheap hidden gems, sometimes you have to take a gamble on these kind of leagues. One of his teammates joined Milan in summer and he’s absolutely smashing it. He’s got a 5 1/2 year deal, so if he gets bombed out by the next manager, or the next, or the one after that, or any of next season’s Watford managers, he’s got a pretty contract settlement coming his way. Agent’s ain’t daft tha’ knows. |

I wouldn't have minded if we'd have done the same to get the right people in. |

We’ve had the great Rolando living like Alan Partridge in a Travelodge for 3 months in case Newcastle announced itself as an independent republic. Can’t argue about our foresight!

I don't think it does commit us to a salary but does mean he's not a free agent. In effect his next club would have to buy the option from us. I might be wrong though. I think it's just an option to extend his current contract by one year. So it should be the same wages. I expect we will take the option on the basis that he can leave for a small fee. Allowing us to claw something back. I just guessing though. I've been told that there's not actually an additional year option, but he is going to stay beyond the end of his contract this season |
