With the perpetual clamour to sign former players, how have those who’ve ‘returned to the Mac’ got on?
Booth - legend both times Lucketti - disaster Edwards - did a job in L2 Iffy - did a job in L2 Ward - too early to say Lossl - did a good job but probably cost us a fortune
Any more in modern times?

Peltier.... waste of time 2nd time
Theo Robinson - do I really need to mention his?
Delroy Facey - ineffective also

For every Boothy there's a Ward and a Lucketti

Boothy is a complete legend of the club but let’s not pretend his 2nd coming was “legendary”. Brought in to help us stay up...2 relegations in 3 years. Last couple of seasons he became a bit of a parody due to his complete lack of pace due to his knees. Great send off at Orient though.

Obviously, his powers had diminished but he was still more than good enough for us at that level. Him and Luke Beckett were never going to get in behind many defences though!

Luke Beckett, classic case of the Thornley effect. Thankfully Mooy didn’t suffer the same effect!

Good thread. Let's hope that more than a few take the time to read and digest the contents. Move forwards, not backwards!

Cowan, Thornley, Beech, Mooy...that’s how you loan a player and then sign him.

Stead did ok. Problem is we sold these players to clubs higher than us and then picked them up again on their way back down. I would argue Holmes would come to us in his prime so the chance of him being a success is higher. He must be better than Pritchard surely.

That's a bit harsh - he hit double figures in both full seasons after his loan, and was probably our top scorer in both, which is more a reflection on the team than him!

There are rumours that Duane Holmes is coming back for a million notes, whether there is anything in this I don't know. Its been reported on the local Derby rag.

Yeah b8t is that based on you watching him when he played for us or when he played for Derby He's not pulled up any trees at Derby, their fans don't seem too fussed if he left. He probably is a better player now than when he left us but is he better than anything we already have?

Or you go on their forum (judging by datm I find you get a range of opinions. For eg I'd have swerved Danny ward x 1000 whereas to some he was literally the 2nd coming) .

Interestingly, he’d be the first player called ‘Duane’ to play for Town since Duane Holmes played for us in the first half of the 2014/15 season.
