Wonder if he’s grown 6 inches since he left or put a couple of stone on or got 100% better ?

They've given him the number 9 shirt. Thats says a lot about the prospect of a centre forward

They've given him the number 9 shirt. Thats says a lot about the prospect of a centre forward This has pissed me off more than our signing a lightweight sub-six-foot ball-carrying midfielder when we already have one, and don’t have any physical presence or on the ball creativity. Giving him the number 9 is just a massive “fuck you” to anyone a) with OCD or b) who thinks having a striker who spends some time in the opposition box might be a good idea. Nothing against Holmes individually, I hope he’s a success.

There is no up front fee for Holmes. Incentive based triggers only. So essentially a free transfer. That sounds like an excellent piece of negotiating by Phil if true.

I must admit I was shocked when he said that. I expect that when fans are allowed back into stadiums again he'll get a "warm" reception from the Derby fans. Also, that combined with the Lawrence/Bennett/Keogh situation it looks like a longstanding lack of discipline at Derby County.

Good to see his commitment to our club. Looking forward to watching his debut - if he plays.

I can get my head around this deal positively- he’s a good footballer, quick on his feet and I can easily see him in the Eiting role alongside Hoggy- when fit-and O’Brien, putting pressure on everybody’s favourite show pony.Well see.But please please get us some true centre forward cover for Campbell So that'll be a midfield 3 with no one above 5'7" 🤨

No point taking any corners or putting in high crosses, we really have no one who can challenge for the ball in the air, apart from Sarr.

Imagine if he hadn’t come through our academy? We’d be pretty happy to sign a player who was great in League 1, can hold their own in the Championship and has many of the attributes we are lacking.
Always good to see Derby unable to compete with the likes of Huddersfield too.

Happy with this, especially considering Eitings injury.
Gets us another ready to go player, one for now as opposed the future.
Think this window has been fairly alright. Would love a goal scoring threat and ideally would love to move a couple of the higher earners on if possible.
If it is a 'free', this is brilliant news.
All the signings make sense so far Holmes replaces the injured Eiting Aarons adds instant depth to the wing spot with Koroma injured, and has to be better than Diakhaby Keogh comes in on a short term deal to help cover as our experienced CBs are all injured. Grant, one for the future. Unfortunately injured. Don't know much about him at all. Sorba Thomas the same, although 2 assists on debut for the B team. Early days, but that's a good start!
Hamer out also makes sense as Schofield is now firmly our number 1. Would rather have sent that Man U fella back, but I guess that may not have been an option and Hamer likely wanted to leave to get game time. Not sure he was on Prem wages, but although he has improved significantly this season for us, I never felt 100% confident with him, or how he'd play when the crowds returned.
As mentioned earlier, I'd love a proper goal scoring threat in but honestly, I think we are finished for this window.

I like Holmes and was disappointed when he left , I welcome him back and hope his stay with Town is successful , the worry I have is the physical presence which is lacking in our squad. We have so many posts on the forum where posters are pessimistic when we come across a more physical team in the league , stating that we may struggle against them, sadly we usually we do!

Anyone that's claiming that Holmes is another lightweight that can't stand up the division's physicality hasn't watched the highlights video posted above. The lad also looks like he can go past players, has a few tricks and can pick a pass too. Football is littered with lads that were written off at one club and then went elsewhere, often at a lower level, to develop their talents, before maturing into good players. Just because his path here was blocked a few years ago doesn't mean that he's not good enough now.

Not too bright is Wayne though, is he?

No point taking any corners or putting in high crosses, we really have no one who can challenge for the ball in the air, apart from Sarr. Up to 2017, only 3% of corners in the PL resulted in a goal. We've scored 4 headed goals this season (average). One of those was Carel Eiting. That's one more than 'bigger' (a refferal to height) teams including Millwall, Barnsley and Luton. And two more than Preston who are considered a very direct/physical side. Of the teams in the top six, only two teams have scored more headed goals than us; Swansea (7) and Brentford (8). Norwich (3), Bournemouth (3) and Bristol (2) have all scored fewer headed goals than us. Of our two games against Swansea and Brentford, no goals conceded (4) were headers. Only one headed chance was created for either side across both (Bacuna vs Brentford). Our setup isnt to chuck it in the box; anyone who observes our games closely will note that gone are the days when we simply sling a corner aimlessley 'into the mix'- we now look to be creative, often playing it short or picking out a player on the edge. Our problem is finding the keys to unlock defences on the deck. Hopefully Holmes will assist with that.

Hmmmmmm Still I hope I’m wrong If you're in a relegation battle, you need everyone fighting for the cause with everything they've got. The last thing you want is players angling for a move to another club. Even if he was their best player, I'm not surprised WR wanted rid.

Quite a poignant day for Duane, resigning for the club on the 12 month anniversary of the death of his close friend Jordan Sinnott.

Welcome back Duane
Always remember him linking up well with Vaughany, well one cracking goal anyway
Wonder where Vaughany is now?? We're obviously in the mood for ex players coming back?? 12 goals in 19 apps last year, not bad eh? I would!

If Rooney thought Duane would be of ANY use in a relegation battle he would have kept him , the fact he doesn’t should tell us something The fact is Derby can't afford to pay their players on time so he's been told to cut the wage bill. Duane wants out, which he made clear in his interview so he's gone. Maynard said Brentford had a deal agreed to sign him in the summer but could close the deal due to Behnrama deal not going though in time.
