Pereira has played one game in front of a back four who on the day were absolutely abysmal. Jury's still out on him yet, the amount of stick he's getting is a bit ridiculous though.

At the start of the season I rated Hamer as one of our worse signings in memory
Credit to the bloke he's shown he has some ability this season and as a result has earned a decent move off the back of it
Right decision to move him on and get a decent wage freed up but also fair play to Hamer for his performances this year

While I'm sure we'll see many better goalkeepers, Hamer deserves immense credit for fronting up about his struggles and poor form and taking responsibility. Many players don't do it, at least not publicly. In hindsight, he has been better after a real run of games and needed to be number 1 somewhere.
All the best to him. It's a shame it didn't work out, but that's football. Certainly no hard feelings from me, and I was a big critic of his up to the early stages of this season. I'm pleased he made me eat my words.

Its to be hoped that this is to free up his wages so that Carlos can bring some more players in

Obviously we see Schofield as our goalkeeper for the foreseeable future. All the best to Hamer, he deserves credit for pulling his time at Town around but I think it's good business that we were able to get his wage off the books and get a fee for him, while his contract was supposed to run out in the summer.
Best of luck to him.

Fair enough, guess that's why they announce it as an "undisclosed fee", could just be a formality.

What I meant was that in order for him to be at his best, he needs regular football as a number 1. When he was in and out for us, he showed his worst form. That he's gone to Swansea as backup isn't perhaps in his interests, but equally having a goalkeeper as backup unsuited to being backup here wasn't in our best interests either. I hope I've made myself a little clearer.

I don’t mind Messi earning millions every year but Ben Hamer been a multi millionaire is really annoying.

Good to get him off the wage bill but we need a replacement and unless he’s significantly cheaper it doesn’t make a great deal of sense. Can always get an emergency loan if Schofield gets injured

I don’t really understand all the positive messages about Hamer and his time at Town. One of the worst signings we have ever made.

We got him on a free and despite a shaky start, he's turned it round this season. The likes of Dierkaby & Pritchard are right up there amongst our worst ever signings bearing in mind what we paid for them and at the other end of the pay scale, we've signed some right duffers over the years who've contributed far less than Hamer.

At least the other 2 had some kind of previous form at other clubs to justify the wages we offered them.

I’d love to know the story behind Hamer signing for Town and starting the season and the absolute bollocks we made with Lossl’s contract that resulted him in leaving on a free.

Can always get an emergency loan if Schofield gets injured Nope. Rule 57: www.efl.com/-more/governance/efl-rules--regulations/section-6---players/If any professional goalkeeper is available for selection at midday on the day of the game, we can't have an emergency loan. My understanding of that rule is that because they've both signed professional contracts, Chapman & Bilokapic would also have to be unavailable (through injury, suspension or international call-up) for us to be eligible to use an emergency loan. * Are we confident that a 21 year old goalkeeper who is only just breaking into regular first team football is going to be able to maintain consistency for the remainder of the season (& not get injured/suspended)? * Are we happy with Poppadom Hands in goal? * Are Chapman &/or Bilokapic ready for first team action? Whether people rate Hamer or not, I think we're taking a huge risk if we don't replace him this window.

[/quote Agreed but he was still earning more than most of the players. He won’t have signed for less than 20k a week, even allowing for the relegation clause and actually contributed less than Diakhaby and Pritchard and that’s saying something.

No chance we signed a sub keeper for £20k a week plus. I know we'd just been promoted but... £10-15k a week tops. Probably a clause in there that increased it when we stayed up, and then went down 40-50% when we went down.

There's not a cat in hells chance that we signed Hamer on anything remotely close to £20k per week. He was signed to be Lossl's understudy until he returned unfit from the WC. He was reported by the Star to be on £8k per week at Leicester. Even Town wouldn't be daft enough to sign a reserve keeper on £20k per week. www.dailystar.co.uk/pics/pictures/gallery/every-leicester-stars-weekly-wages-18684769

Sometimes it doesn’t work out in football. He did not look reliable, but that was in the Prem, when he started playing for us and the crowd got on his back. It went downhill from there.
He was first choice at Charlton then backup at Leicester. He actually played a lot more minutes for Derby on loan than he played for us. He has made a much better fist of it this season and fair play to him for his honesty and professionalism. Schofield, even at his age and with his lack of experience, to me, looks a better keeper, but time will tell.
Good luck to him at Swansea. I think he is from the West Country so nearer to home as well.

The thing that first struck me about Hamer was his distribution which was shaky.
His anticipation of what was developing in front of him also seemed poor. Frequently he would be making a save when not quite set properly with the save then not happening or a bit of a flail leaving the ball in play in a dangerous area.
In truth the defence in front of him was often shaky too. A dominant keeper would have helped resolve some of the problems we had in defence. A number of our defenders were guilty of ball watching or getting caught under the ball. At the risk of being accused of heresy Schindler was guilty of this.
