Huddersfield Town’s 1-0 home defeat to Millwall on Wednesday, 20 January 2021, was our fourth successive defeat in all competitions and just Millwall’s second win in 16 league matches. The game can be easily summarised; we conceded early, missed a penalty, and then had no ideas as to what to do next. I found it inexplicable that as the minutes ticked by we still played the ball sideways and backwards producing nothing for our front two to feed off. Whilst I normally support our plan of playing out from the back, all strategies have to be adapted to the conditions. In this case it was throwing it down with rain and the pitch was boggy making it difficult to pass and hard for defenders to turn quickly. Surely, this was one of those rare occasions when some long aerial balls and strong, direct running should have been tried?
As a result of this reverse, Town go into the next round of Championship fixtures positioned 14th in the division with 31 points from 25 games.
On Tuesday, 26 January 2021, KO 19:00 we continue our league campaign away at Bristol City. This match will be purchasable on iFollow for £10 but will not be free to season card holders. It will not be available on the Sky Sports red button. The referee selected for this match is Stephen Martin.
We last played Bristol City, in the reverse encounter, on 3 November 2020, when we lost 2-1 at the John Smith’s Stadium. This is a fixture where we have done poorly, in recent years with, since 2002, a 1-3-5 away record. Our last clash at Ashton Gate was on 30 November 2019, also in the Championship, when we lost 5-2. Karlan Grant and Juninho Bacuna scored the consolation goals and, after the match, Danny Cowley heavily criticised the attitude of some of the players.
In 2019-20 Bristol City finished 12th having slipped out of the Play-off places. This term they exited the Carabao Cup, in the third round, at home to Aston Villa, after having eliminated Exeter City and Northampton Town. They progressed to the 4th Round in the FA Cup, courtesy of a 2-1 home win over League 1 Portsmouth. They play their next Cup game on Saturday, 23 January at Millwall hence the reason why our trip to the South-West has been postponed to Tuesday.
Following their 2-0 defeat at Norwich City, on 20 January, the Robins are 9th in the Championship, with 36 points from their 24 matches. With our injury record, and underperformance away from home, I think that another defeat is the most likely result.
Current BetFred odds: Town: 12/5 Draw: 12/5 Bristol City: 6/5

We might as well sign Billy the Fish because we're going to get battered.

We can take our pick of goalscorers for them. Wells, Hunt, Palmer or Paterson if fit.

Last time out at Bristol...
Bristol City’s Ashton Gate has long been a graveyard for Town on their travels. Time and again they have conceded a bucketful of goals; Saturday 30th November 2019 was to prove no different.

We never win here, although I've been twice and we've won both but the other 50 visits we've had not much joy. After last night's debacle you can only see a comfortable home win, we look toothless, short on ideas and lack any guile to change it.

Sadly I'm quickly losing interest in this season, even before last nights horror show. I just don't know how Carlos can sit there and watch defenders passing it to each other with just minutes left on the clock...the ulta cautious ultra defensive and ultra boring shit show against Millwall left me angry and annoyed...We've seen so many managers in recent years lose confidence in the players and relapse into defence tactics ...I thought Carlos was different...now we know it's more of the same..

I would like to see Phillips given an extended run to see if he can start finding the goal scoring touch we so badly need. He's scored loads in the stiffs and unless we are going to go and buy a striker, which we aren't, then I see no other option.

When plan A works its all good, but if it doesn't, he is too slow to change things.

The cliche goes that I'd be delighted with a point.
Realistically, I'd be pretty happy with losing but putting on a performance that gave me hope that we're not going to follow Hull's example.

"The Stiffs" is a term which goes way back and was used as a nickname for the Reserves as far back as the 1920s.

this could be 5th defeat in a row...Cardiff just sacked Harris for losing 5 in a row....Is Big Phil feeling nervous, twitchy or just plain guilty for not backing the manager with the right new signings

That 6/5 on Bristol looks pretty generous but I bet you can't get that now.

I think we might squeak something from this game. Keep it as tight as a knat’s chuff, don’t concede early, hang in there and hope we get a gift. I’m hopeful of a narrow victory but I reckon it will have to be ugly.
