the72.co.uk/218337/huddersfield-town-and-bolton-wanderers-want-free-agent/Released by Blackburn at the end of last season. Signed a short term deal at Fleetwood to cover injury in that position - that contract expired this month. My view = not an exciting signing, but covers the need for a back-up keeper to Schofield without eating away into our budget too much. Hopefully just a short term deal just to give us cover for this season & chance to have a look at him before making a decision in the summer. Would make sense.

To be honest I’m not 100% confident in Schofield as our number 1. His reluctance and sometimes calamitous commanding of his area has to be a massive concern for this division. I think we need a number 1 while he gains a bit of body mass

would be ok for backup. having seen that Chapman was briefly training with Portsmouth this week it looks like we're trying to farm him out and need another keeper in.
Disagree about Schofield, he's naturally going to make mistakes as he's young, and he'll learn by experience. command of your area is usually one of the last things to come into a keeper's repertoire. I was worried about his distribution before he started playing this season but he's getting better at it. I'm sure the rest will come if we're patient. Considering how poor and exposing the defence in front of him has been this season I think he's done a great job

I think we need a number 1 while he gains a bit of body mass I half-agree with that. I don't think his all round game is good enough for Championship level yet. Shot stopping he's arguably PL standard, but the rest of his game is Lg1 or below. He's not going to improve as much on the bench though as he is on the pitch, and he definitely has the potential to become a really, really good keeper. He's good enough now that we can get away with his mistakes, and if we do go down I don't think it'll be because he was our 1st choice keeper. There are bigger problems (& signing Leutwiler might well solve one of those). Ryan looks well worth persevering with as we grow the squad. He's only just turned 21 and although a bit raw, but we could have a gem on our hands there.

Very lightweight but an unbelievable shot stopper prone to clangers. I think this spell to the end of the season is his opportunity to nail down the position, but I’m not 100% there yet.

Welcome, makes sense to have a senior figure around Ryan and Joel with them being young.

A more senior goalkeeper is, as others say, sensible. I'd still rather an Ian Bennett type to really mentor young Schofield, but it's clear we have no confidence in Pereira.

Sensible signing - match fit and good experience, reading up on him he was Shrewsbury's first choice keeper when they got promoted from League Two and then there regular League One keeper for two seasons.
Can't imagine wages will be massive either. Ticks all the boxes for me as a back up

Don’t get this one, unless Pereira is going back? Seems like an unnecessary wage when we’re so short on money.

He’s played plenty of League 1 & 2, after not playing much at Blackburn and I bet he sees this as a chance to take the starting keeper spot in a Championship club.
It’s a no risk shot for both keeper and club.

He's not that old for a goalie though.

I think Schofield has done very well..

I’m ok with this signing, I’m assuming he’s been brought in to provide competition for Schofield and isn’t just here to keep the bench warm though. Would have much preferred us bringing in an experienced keeper as I see Schofield as being one for the future and would benefit a 6 month loan out at a League 1 club but it is what it is.

What syndrome said.
Also, it was probably worth a look. He was once viewed as the future of Portuguese goalkeeping, tipped to become his country's Number 1. If he could have fulfilled that after a bit of a setback then he could have been
One of those low cost, low risk punts that usually don't come off, but when they do it's more than worth it. Much like Reece Brown & Josh Koroma. They might be great, might flop. Given that both Schofield & Leutwiler appear to have overtaken him in the pecking order I very much doubt that we'll see him in the first team again.

Has to start Saturday.
Schofield looks absolutely shot of confidence, rooted to his line, not commanding balls coming in, got two hands to then penalty and still trickled in.
Leutwiler has experience, will command his box and won't be afraid to give the defenders a bollocking and communicate with them.

Leutwiler has experience, will command his box and won't be afraid to give the defenders a bollocking and communicate with them. shot stopping wise Schofield is unbelievable but whenever a cross comes into the box or it gets a bit scrappy in an attacking area he has absolutely no idea where to position himself or what to do. Obviously he's got plenty of time to work on that side of his game and develop but he is nowhere near good enough for the championship yet.
