The farcical reorganisation of county, borough, district borders etc etc...which led us from Huddersfield County Borough with our own public transport, electricty generator, gas provision, and self determination which has been successful for decades...to...Kirklees ...and the joys of being joined at the hip with Batley and Dewsbury...ffs Probably about a third of Towns support comes from the Heavy Woollen to be fair.

Ever been to France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland? I could go on. I’ve been to all the stated countries and more - still nowhere better than the Dales for me. But we arent in the Dales. I cant be doing with this regional shit. I like it here but I like Ireland, co Kikdare aa much. Now their beer is shit apart from the Guiness. I also spend a lot of time in the South East, Wokingham Finchampstead near Reading. Its absolutely stunning. Beautiful houses, delightful stables, quiet roads, rolling countryside, superb pubs serving great food and a huge selection of real local beers.Everyones friendly, you never feel threatened it's a different world. They're all fuckin Tories though. Why do you think all these professional Yorkies like Boycott, Parkinson and Gough all live down there?

I tell you where is shit, The Midlands. No scenery, no coasts nearby, just rolling hills is about as exciting as it gets.
Be honest, the highlight of going to Nottingham was a trip to Hooters.

What's that got to do with it ? ..Dewsbury used to be ok, but Batley and beyond I must admit as a kid I'd never heard of, never went there, never wanted to... Why is Birkenshaw for instance, the other side of M62..just 4 miles from Bradford centre, linked to Huddersfield, holmfirth, Meltham ? East Bierly .. isn't that Leeds ? No, Kirklees was /is a marriage made in hell by some bleeding Admin clerk trying to make up the numbers when they created the metropolitan councils without any thought at all the local history. They should have drawn the line at Mirfield ..for me anyway.

If I have to fill out anything that asks for nationality I put Yorkshire. Far prouder to be Yorkshire than English or British I’ve worked for companies that are based in the Sarf for the last 20 years . This has meant me having to travel to the office in the forbidden world at least once a month. Several months ago I noticed that there was the magazine “Kent Life” on the Reception coffee table. Next time I went down there I threw it in the bin and replaced it with “Yorkshire Life” That makes no sense at all. Would someone from Kent who was working up here do the same thing? Weird.

Don’t Universities fund themselves? And I’m pretty sure Tesco very kindly built our new Sports Centre for us? But the council will still have to invest significant sums in order to allow the developments to go ahead. My old town, Mirfield, has had nothing of note in the form of council investment, but I never looked at Batley and felt that the investment there was unfair. To be harking back to the days when Huddersfield had it's own power station and gas supply is never going to be conducive to progression.

Can’t beat living in Bradford.. A few months ago I thought your local derby might be against Park Avenue next season, but now its looking more likely to be us. It is Their record since sacking MvCall again is phenomenal.I think they are guaranteed to reach the play offs. About time they are employed him again.

The tour de france helped too, put the holme Moss cycle run on the map, and we still get cycle groups come over and give it a bash..we also get motor cycle groups which irritates the shit out of a lot of people..so money has poured in,butnot so much into the civic funds, but local traders, bars, cafe's, restaurants , Band B etc..which while it would have created a few jobs it generally went into the pockets of private individuals.. What I'm talking about is the capital funds given to Kirklees which is divi'd up according to the 'needs test'...which of course always means north kirklees gets first pickings... Holmfirth has been waiting 10-20 years for a solution to the traffic mayhem as HGV's short cut through the town instead of taking the long route up the M1 and M62..it's carnage sometimes, there's pollution and regular damage to be repaired.. There is never enough money left over to deliver the solution, it's always quick fixes which just slows traffic down...new traffic lights seems to be the cheapest option...then demolishing half the town centre and building another bridge, which was rejected as unworkable...There are solutions, as, if you ever visit France for instance, you will see how they can afford to construct by-passes, tunnels and bridges for even the smallest towns.... Sorry to rant on a bit...can't stop once I get going...

The likes of Kirkburton, Meltham, Denby Dale and Holmfirth are now just commuter towns and have lost their original identities. They, like lots of parts of Huddersfield with decent access to the motorways and surrounding cities, are cash cows for developers building estates full of 'executive' homes and a council seemingly unable to stop them. I'm sick of seeing more and more houses built around here that my kids have no chance of affording. They're even building some overlooking the railway line at Lowergate, Paddock that are £300,000! At Paddock! And the ones they're building at the old St Luke's site are averaging well over £200,000. To live at fuckin' Crosland Moor! Plenty of investment there, but little for local people.

Go up to the Dales and most new builds are aimed at selling to people from out of the area.

A long as they are cheaper than those in the big cities they will continue to sell. In the meantime, Huddersfield will continue to be built on. But few of the houses will be affordable to locals.

It should be a basic right that you can be born, live and die in the same village (if that's what you want). But that is now almost impossible. I feel for any young adult who was born in Holmfirth, Shelley or Hebden Bridge and just wants their kid to go to the same school they did. And when you lose that continuity, you lose that community. And so we all feel more separated than ever, so we start to think only in terms of maximising our own satisfaction. What a sad state of affairs.

What a sad state of affairs. shed your tears and walk away is a fantastic documentary on Hebden Bridges problems. Is that the one about the hidden smack problems (amongst other things)? What has really changed the dynamic up there is the BBC moving thousands of jobs to Salford. Nobody who moved up wanted to live in Salford. They wanted to live outside, with good rail links, and access to a flat white and The Guardian. Which meant Hebden Bridge properties went even further through the roof. Even further beyond the means of those young adults whose family had lived in the valley for 200 years.

The good outweighs the bad but green fields and beautiful landscape/ Countryside is getting built on. Shite fake stone, with endless identical looking houses. Everyone working in Mancs, Leeds or from their backbedroom.

Totally agree. In truth, this is happening all over Yorkshire. Local people not been able to afford to live in an area where they and their parents have lived all their lives. Go up to the Dales and most new builds are aimed at selling to people from out of the area. I agree. But why build expensive houses in areas like Paddock and Crosland Moor? If they're not going to build cheaper houses in those areas then they won't build them anywhere. True. Such a shame that “local” people are priced out of the areas they grew up in.

The sad thing is, when you look at today's housing market, those are "cheap" houses. And losing the community is the saddest part of it in my opinion. You can see it happening where I live , more and more arrivals of people from all over the country with locals either having to move out or rent somewhere due to the fact that any new build is aimed at the “Executive “ market at £300k plus.

Gough? Darren Gough? A Tory? I’m sure you’re right but I find that as hard to believe as the plight our ex owner has allowed our club to get into. He’d be an embarrassment to the Labour Party never mind the Tories would that Neanderthal. To be fair I meant the general population not the Yorkshire southerners. Boycott and Gough are for sure, I don't know about Parkinson. All I know is he loves Barnsley so much he has lived in Berkshire for decades.
