I'll bet that report was written after watching Cardiff extended highlights. Never seen him in the flesh, and didn't watch a couple of games to get an all round perspective. Its worthless.

Lewis O’Brien is a tough player to assess. At times superb and then very average. I think he might be the type of midfielder (note: never a full back) that would really thrive in a 442. I think the links with Burnley might suggest that others do to.
He needs to be busy in midfield and allowed to play his own high octane game. He’s a lad you would like alongside you in the engine room.

I kind of appreciate LO'B, but I never really 'rate' him.
But I watched Fulham beat Liverpool the other day, and Harrison Reed was one of the standout players for me.
He just kept popping up and breaking stuff up in the zone between the penalty area and centre circle, and buzzed about a bit filling space...it was all very straightforward, simple, powered by a 'never stop' engine. A really decent performance at the top level of English football.
And he looks a bit like Lewis O'Brien in stature and hair etc.
And then I thought...and actually, he's only doing HALF the job that Lewis O'B manages to do - he's doing none of the driving the ball forward from the centre third into the final third, none of the getting involved in and around the attacking box.
Lewis O Brien could EASILY step up, into a half decent EPL team, and really stand out and excel. He's probably realistically worth around £2m to £3m, but he's one of those players that a EPL club signs for £20m, everyone goes, "who is that, I've never heard of him" - and then 9 months later they realise why they've paid £20m.
He's got an engine, he's got bravery and fight, he gets into all the right positions, a knack of being able to surge past multiple players without really many obvious tricks, he plays with a smile on his face. All great attributes - hope he's with us for at least another 2 or 3 years, will be difficult to replace.

After a bit of a dodgy start I think Lewis has done much much better in the last few games. If he improves his passing and composure, which he will with time, he'll be an excellent central midfielder. Hope we'll be the ones to appreciate it

He may not have reached the heights of some of his performances of last season but to me he's still been very, very good in a position that, in my opinion, is the most demanding position to play in. He has everything - tackling ability, stamina, fairly good pace, technical/dribbling, passing (not always completely on the money in the final third but a very decent standard) and has a good shot/finish in his locker (West Brom, Barnsley, Swansea etc.) As you say he plays with a smile on his face which is great to see - he seems like a really down to Earth guy and I've really been quite surprised by some of the overly negative comments I've read about him on here. Fool me. |

I read the Guardian and enjoy the sports section but with still say the Telegraph is the best sports section. A shame you get the rest of the right wing bile of a rag with it.

I liked Paul Kimmage when he wrote for The Sunday Times. Agree re Walsh, brilliant!
Re: The Guardian. So what that it’s left wing. So am I and that’s why I read it. Regardless of all that, Marina Hyde is truly brilliant.

I think he will be in the same bracket as smithies.
Build them up, then knock them down.
Then when they progress to decent players people cry out 'why did we sell them!'
By decent i mean progressing further than the club.
Just the same way jack hunt or any other player that progressed from the academy has had.
Anything less than 5 million would be a joke.
He will be a top end championship player imo
