She's Mollie Smith, great-granddaughter of Our Billy. Fantastic that the club keep in contact with the family, even if it is to sell a shirt. Bit of a pity for Jimmy Islip that his great-grandfather Ernie left Town under a cloud. For those who are interested, Islip committed a horrendous tackle against a Notts County player in the game on 8th September 1923, and Chapman told him that he would never again play for the club. In November Islip was sold to Birmingham and thus missed out on the chance of bagging a League Winner's medal in the season that Town first achieved it.

Because it would look stupid? would it? its meant as a tribute to the cup winning team, but the names of the players are hidden, and the shirt isnt like the original, Yes, it would look stupid. In a similar way that playing in a shirt signed by a team would look stupid. Where it is, it’s nice and big and readable so everyone that puts it on is aware every time they wear it. If it was on outside, the only way it wouldn’t look stupid would be if it was in a teeny invisible from 2 feet font like the kits with fans names embedded in them…where even the person wearing the shirt doesn’t notice the names,

Yes. The ONLY thing I don't like about this kit is the positioning of the secondary sponsor...it'll look fine when there's a name and number on the shirt...but looks a bit weird otherwise, might have been better at the bottom of the rear? Although it'll maybe contribute to the sale of more numbers and names I suppose? Worried it’ll sit on your love handles? Nope, I’m a finely tuned athlete of a man; it just looks really odd. Pretty much every other club has that ad above the name, between the name and the number, or just above the waist line. It also seems like we’ll have tiny squad numbers if that’s where the sponsor logo is.

Another good effort (one of very many by Town on the strips) over the years, the Tesco shopping bag lookalike apart. Similar(ish) to the 2018/19 stripes but thankfully without that hideous dog badge with The Terriers written below and not even the words Huddersfield Town. Thankfully Town’s beautiful badge (in my humble opinion) adorns our lovely stripes again.
How beautiful it is of HTAFC to recognise and respect the FA cup and charity shield winners in their 100th year anniversary of such success. The names on the inner collar of the players is a lovely touch. Take a bow Huddersfield Town. Our club likes quite rightly, to portray itself, as a family club and my goodness have they went above the call of duty with this launch. Teddy and Jimmy Islip, great grandsons of Ernie. Clem Stephenson the grandson of the famous Town Clem, Robert and Liz Smith the grandson and grand daughter of Billy respectively and modelling it is his great granddaughter Mollie.
Today Town launched another nice home top for me to buy and wear just the same as the rest of the others I’ve got. The beauty for me was the inclusion of these legendary players decendents in the launch, the names woven into the fabric of the garment as they are in the fabric of the club. I am very proud yet again tonight of Huddersfield Town Football Club. Nobody quite does history and remembrance of players passed like us. Yeah we may moan about team performance and other issues at the club, but the middle paragraph of this letter to the blog brings it home to me how lucky I am to have a club like this in my life, and in my case just because I liked the name Huddersfield Town !

Fat blokes in football shirts looks stupid. What's written on them doesn't really matter if you are fat, 50, and wearing a football top.

It wouldn't look stupidCould've gone down the Man Utd route and had the names faded in the stripes That looks stupid. And more significantly, ours are presented in a way in which they’re significant and memorable. Ask a 12 year old who got that Man U shirt to name the names a month after having it, and they’d say, “what names”. Ask a 12 year old Town fan to name the names on the town shirt a month after they own it and they’ll likely recite at least half of them (and will probably know what the team represents).

Nah, not for me. They might be ok if there's just one badge but not when there's the club badge and manufacturers emblem too.

People who care what other people think about what they are wearing are stupid in my opinion. If you care passionately about your club and decide to wear a shirt - good on you I say. No matter how old you are or what your build is.

Probably already too late but what chance of Town breaking the mould on replica shirt sales ? Would a manufacturer let them or are they committed to a set price ? It’s a nice looking shirt but at £48 they are massively overpriced ( for the record today I’ve looked in the Adidas shop in La Zeina in Spain, and they had Spain, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich shirts on sale at €90 / £80 so it’s not just an English thing ) I liken it to motorway service stations, the food and petrol is some of the most expensive there is and they survive because they have a captive market but they have a very unhappy customer base who know they are forced to pay over the odds. I’ve no idea how many shirts Town sell every season, or what their mark up is but a 100% isn’t unusual in retail so if it’s 5000 shirts with £24 mark up out of the £48 price that’s £120k. With reduced prices would sales increase to say 8000 shirts with £12 out of £36 that’s £96k, the total is down but more printing as well, more advertising for the club and its sponsor so will they pay more to be on the shirt, it might not cost anything plus the benefit of a happier fan base who don’t feel they are simply being ripped off ? All back of a cig packet stuff so it might all be wide of the mark but either way the principle is valid. Try A level Economics: price elasticity of demand comes to mind :-)

Some questions for the history buffs.
1. When did we first wear the 3 stars on the shirt?
2. I may have heard somewhere that the FA awarded the stars because we were the first team to win the league 3 times in a row. Is this true?

If so I can tell you, without the benefit of one, that you are wrong, it’s debatable as to or not they would sell enough to cover the reduced mark up but I’ve already given a reasonable response to that. I repeat myself, I think it’s a nice looking shirt but even at the cheaper end of replica shirts, at £48 they are too expensive, the same article minus a football club badge would be £25 in Matalan or Primark.

Looking on Historic Football Kits I reckon it was 2000-2001, the Joe Bloggs shirt. I don't remember any having them before that.

I do know the shield was presented by the FA to honour the achievement and I remember when Liverpool matched it they copied it for them, presumably they did for Arsenal as well 40 years previously? Never heard of the PL copying it for Man United either but I suppose they were the first in that sense. As for stars on the shirt I’m not sure, International sides have them for World Cup’s and club sides have them for a variety of things, didn’t Rangers once have 5 with one for every 10 titles, while Celtic just the one for their European Cup ?

Since copied by others for virtually anything. Even Bradford have one for their FA Cup win!
