Are there some parallels - both with Thomas and Grant - and Lolley? I know Grant was LOI rather than non-league, but it's surely still a big jump in training intensity, so maybe that's part of it for him - like it was with Lolley. Or is it more bad luck, or being naturally injury-prone? With Thomas, of course he wasn't going to be ready straight away - but there's loads of examples of non-league players making the step up to great success, even if it takes a little while to get up to speed. Just a shame Lolley peaked after he left us - that said, what's happened this last year or so, one minute he's being touted for a big-money move to Villa, but this last season or so he seems to have dropped out of the picture? Regardless of all that, I remember someone - think it was Maynard - saying we'd beaten off a lot of competition to sign Thomas, and early signs are that we've done well to get him and might have a (rough?) diamond on our hands - I can't wait to see what he can do. Preferably in person - gawd, I've missed live games! Agree. And what a first home game we have to look forward too! Hope we get a big crowd. Can’t wait.

Preferably in person - gawd, I've missed live games! The difference this time is that our model is based on picking up and developing this type of player, both in the academy and for the first team. Lolley was on his own in that respect and we were clueless on how to develop him. He played alongside seasoned pros and the management seemed to treat him exactly the same, forgetting that he’d been at uni about 18 months before joining us. Yep, very good points! I guess signing these "projects" with no real need to throw them straight in - with the B-team model (for better or for worse) meaning they can fly under the radar for a while, and either develop as we'd hope, or not - but ultimately inexpensive gambles. This one might just pay off, though - here's hoping!

If we get this lad playing well consistently and koroma back to something like and Jordan with confidence we have a good front 3 Is Corberan reluctant to select all 3 though? Probably keeps picking Holmes

From not looking like a pro footballer at all last season to being a roaring success this, the transformation is nothing short of remarkable. Might it be something to do with the quality of coaching he's received from Corberon and his team ?

One reason why I'm prepared to give Corberan a lot of leeway is that the club's model is absolutely set up for a coach like him (and the rest of his team). Bring in players cheaply, develop them & then move them on for a healthy profit. Then (hopefully) invest that money in better punts elsewhere. AKA - something similar to "The Brentford model", albeit adapted to our situation & acknowledging that we're a few years behind them.

I think aome of the criticism of corberon was justified last season. But he can only play with the hand he is dealt . I think its clear he has progressed a number of players. With a couple of creative additions (ffs we SO need to get rid on "bacbenza" ) I think we could have an OK season. I'm still more than happy that we traded Cowley for corberon personally

The lad was outstanding on Saturday. He also looked like he had lost a few pounds and was at it for the whole 90 mins. What really impressed me was he received a couple of balls over the top in the first 15 mins. He controlled both of them very well but in that split second the Derby full back tackled him and one of the times he clattered (fairly) him as well. The next time the ball came over the top he pushed the ball right in one movement, didn't bother putting his foot on it, and left the full back for dead. The kid looks like he learns quickly, which maybe cannot be said for the coaching staff. The Derby 'keeper must have hit their number 3 wing back 6 times with long balls in the first half and he won every header against Turton. He hit him 3 times in the second half before someone swapped Pearson for Turton and he didn't win another header all game and ended up moaning to the ref.

Thought that Sorba had a good game overall last night but he was pushed off the ball far too easily a few times. He needs to learn how to use his body and strength to protect the ball and buy fouls. If he does we could have a very good player on our hands.

I'm sure he will, he's come on leaps and bounds over summer so further improvement will be likely to come with more game time at this much higher level.

I also thought he went down a few blind allies but that's inexperience at league level, although Everton, in the second half, crowded him out when he had the ball.

But that seemed to create more space for Sinani Essentially why we need to improve on our creativity & attacking threat through the middle. Opponents know they can crowd out our wingers & not have to worry about the consequences of that leaving gaps in their defence elsewhere because we can't exploit them. Getting better at attacking down the middle will make our wingers more effective.

Free kick for equalizer at Derby Corner for goal against Fulham Pass for first goal at Sheff U Persistent for corner that eventually led to winner at Sheff U Corner for goal against Everton Corner for disputed disalowed goal against Everton and scored a penalty in Carabo Cup shoot out win at Sheff Wed. To me that's a brilliant first 6 starts of the season. Develop needs (yes) as he is inexperienced but what a find.

What makes me think he has more even potential are the obvious areas for improvement.

Hard to believe that this time last year he was still plying his trade at Borehamwood. It just shows how excellent recruiting doesn't need to cost the earth. We just need to put away the splattergun recruiting and get more savvy.

We simply look at released lists just like Dean said s few years ago and try identify those who are late developers but haven't been given the time.

Fast becoming my favourite player, if he isn't already. It's easy to say he needs to improve X, Y or Z and I don't disagree - but look how much he's progressed, in just six months, having jumped THREE divisions. People talk about players needing time to adjust to going up ONE division - at this rate of progress...well, let's not get TOO carried away! What I love about this profile of signing is that you've got a player with a background at a top-level academy who got knocked back and went right down to non-league level then played his way back up the divisions. All this talk of PL academy players thinking they've made it without kicking a ball, and giving it the big "I am" in the Championship - I doubt you'd get that with a player who's played down the National League. Humility goes a long way. You also don't get the sense that someone who's played in non-league might do an Mbenza / Ntcham / Bogarde, downing tools and raking in the cash while producing the square-root of naff-all. One or both of Thomas and Koroma are going to leave for an eight-figure sum. Or they'll both be playing for Bury 1885 in three years

Great start to the season. Certainly our best player so far. Keen to see if He can retain this form throughout the season. If he does then we have a real player on our hands. We’ve been crying out for a dead ball specialist for several seasons! Potentially a big find!

If this lad does develop into something special, then we should be keeping him under wraps and appreciating him. It's strange how players can develop an affinity with fans, and that goes a long way in how some players perform...

I haven't had an affinity with a player in a couple of years so it's good to have that feeling again. The last time was Emile Smith Rowe but that was cut short by Covid and the Cowleys often benching him.
This boy is special and could go far if he keeps his head down. Having players like Thomas and Koroma are what get the fans excited!
I'm also a big fan of Colwill.

Anyway well done to the faceless void entity that must've scouted him for us. Having been on here too much I can only conclude it wasn't Bromby because he 'only signs his mates' and it can't be Marsh because, uh, he's young and has a laptop?
