Class today, has been a nice calming influence at the back.
He’ll have bigger tests than a poor reading team but he defended well and was nice and composed on the ball to help us pass forward, showing you don’t need to be spraying 30 yard balls through midfield to be a good centre half for a footballing team.

Looks to have a good all round game, a centre back version of Chris Lowe would do nicely.

I thought he was great today. Massive improvement on Keogh and stearman.

I have always rated him, just what we needed.

Said on the match thread I thought he was quality today. In fact I've been pretty impressed since he came.

Excellent today, as we're many others, I was happy with the team selection today and thought we looked more balanced without High and Turton. Long may it continue.

As I said when we were linked with him originally, decent addition. Mate who supports Wednesday and knows his football always spoke highly of him. As others have said, definite upgrade. Looking good in that position with REG and Crichlow coming through.

On current form, we must have the best Central Defensive unit in the Championship.
Lees very assured and I cannot remember a time at Town ever before when we were such a threat from corners.

I expected us to score every time we had a corner or a set piece in to the both. I think we could be in trouble against any genuine pace and against anyone who zips it about quickly but aside from Fulham we appear to be solid defensively.

Made the same point while watching today, we are a genuine threat from corners and set plays with Thomas and Sinani also seemingly capable of accurate deliveries. That allied to the power, aerial ability and height of Pearson, Sarr, Lee’s, Colwill and Ward and we are a definite threat. We also have Rhodes who is very good with his head.

To be fair, it's a completely different defensive unit, Nicholls, Pearson, Lees, Colwill.... but I agree, having a GK to help you out, not leave everything to the defenders, makes a massive difference

We have a nice situation now - for the first time in a while we have 4 centre backs all of whom look to be in good form and solid. Sarr is the natural choice to miss out as he's the one most prone to a blunder. And all of them look a threat in the opposition box. It's great not to be relying on REG or Romony, and great that they have been able to get out on decent looking loans.

I was surprised when Sarr was left out yesterday as i do think hes been playing well recently and been part of a much improved defence since the Fulham dabacle, maybe its rotation policy but its good if a player who's been doing well cant even get in the starting line-up because others have been performing just as good, nice dilema to have.

I think the reason was to have a reliable defender to allow coville to drive into midfield it changes all the passing option dramatically

Played three games and, for me, hasn’t looked flustered once .
Nice problem to have knowing the back 3 is comfortable but we’ve Sarr, Turton, Vallejo and Toffolo that could all fill in if needed , probably to a higher standard than last year.
Imagine a fully fit squad and the potential strength in depth we’d have had yesterday with Ruffels, Pipa. Aarons , Rowe and Rhodes fit .

He’s done very well so far
Very steady, positioned well, won some key headers, keeps it simple
Reading & Preston are bottom third teams so bigger tests to come for him and others around him but so far good job

Another one the doom mongers were writing off before he'd even signed for us!
Looks very assured and composed and adds tonnes of experience and guile. Like Pearson, he isn't going to be doing anything amazing when he has the ball, but he'll defend well which is the main thing. And with the level of delivery we're now getting at set pieces id expect both of them and Sarr to weigh in with loads of goals this season.
If we put the Fulham game down to a bad day against a very good side ( and noticed they stuffed 5th placed Stoke yesterday too so being gubbed by them isn't going to be in any way unusual I reckon ) , thats 2 conceded in the other 4 games. Signs are looking good. We've strengthened the squad all over the place, got rid of a bad apple or two so hopefully team spirit is back to something like, and the team is playing with belief and confidence. Theres no reason why we can't have a good season and aim for top 6 IMO.

I bet coaches all over the Championship are squirming when they try to work out marking against us.

The defence has come on leaps and bounds since the introduction of Nichols Sad to say but the defensive issues stemmed througha lack of confidence in the keeper. That's not even taking into account his dreadful positional sense and appalling decision making. He is capable of incredible saves but without a vast improvement on the the other aspects of goalkeeping he isn't going to make it anywhere near championship level.

That's not even taking into account his dreadful positional sense and appalling decision making. He is capable of incredible saves but without a vast improvement on the the other aspects of goalkeeping he isn't going to make it anywhere near championship level. Some of it did unquestionably. But most of our defensive issues were caused by players fannying about with the ball amongst themselves when they dont really have the ability to do that without making a complete balls of it once or twice a game. Thats nothing to do with Schofield. Feel sorry for Schofield. Local lad, been at the club since he was a kid and probably a fan. Living the dream really, but put in the firing line too soon and at the mercy of our boo boys who have wrecked his confidence now to the point it will be difficult for him to have a career here. Must have become tortuous for his family who were probably sat in the stands watching their lad struggle and get the abuse. Think with the current climate at HTFC the fans just arent prepared to have much patience and empathy for anyone. Theres a lot who are like coiled springs just primed to lash out at any and everyone they can, particularly the vocal younger end who perhaps only started going 4 or 5 years ago so have a different expectation level to older fans. ( eg they bugger off en masse to the concourse after half an hour at 0-0 at Sheffield Utd to sing about how we're going down! ) Noticed Schofield going round all the players at Bramell Lane and on Saturday congratulating them all after the final whistle. He really wants to be part of the group but just can't see it happening for him now. Needs to build his career at a different club because if he can improve on his weaknesses there's a very decent keeper there. His shot stopping is well above average.

He's only played twice for us in front of a crowd in the last eighteen months (Derby away & Fulham at home). I'd say he's been quite lucky not have suffered the abuse from the crowds given some of his performances over the last twelve months. Last time we had crowds in before the Pandemic he was on loan at Livingstone.
