We disagreed on many things, but I’m sure had we ever met over a pint, we’d have had a decent chat and agreed on much more than Town…
He’ll be chuffed to bits with the airmiles he’ll have racked up on his last journey, as long as he’s not taken the elevator in the other direction…
Rest in peace Oti…

Hi all, very sad news to those who frequent this site. If someone who knew him well would like to write a short obituary then please message me. We'd like to put it on the forum. Would it be too much to ask, if someone could put a photo up of him, been told by someone a while back that I definitely knew him, and it's been bugging me for ages. Much appreciated, if not I totally understand, and respect. Hope you are at peace up there Oti.

RIP Oti, never met him (as far as I know anyway) and didn’t agree with everything he posted but what a character and what a full and fascinating life he led, will be deeply missed, another one of the family gone sadly

Shared many a DM with him. I know he was a divisive figure on here, at times, but what a sound fella he was.

RIP Ron. Remembering the anecdotes and crying with laughter rather than sadness. Great character, will be missed by many.

If he did 1% of the things he claimed to have done, then he would have achieved 1000% of the things any of us could have dreamed of doing in life. Always stuck to his beliefs and convictions, debater of the highest order. Didn't agree with a lot of what he posted, but he did and argued in such an erudite manner. Always entertaining, never boring. Heaven has a new rival to Oscar Wilde. RIP Otium

Raconteur, fantasist, story-teller extraordinaire. Bloody-minded, controversial, occasionally offensive but always forthright. Stoic, stubborn, single-minded and steadfast. Intractable, insoluble, obstinate and cantankerous. But beyond all of that, an honourable and fundamentally decent man. A fellow Town fan, an entertainer and a gentleman. A sad loss, and too soon. Rest in peace, Ron x What an outstanding epitaph Skylark. Well done Sir. And we’ll done to the subject of the epitaph. Rest in peace Otium.

Dr Seuss said,
" Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened"
This is how I think Oti would want us to see this. Made an impression on so many of us.
Rest in Peace Ron.

Yesrs ago there was a thread on Otium quotes/claims he'd done, ie wrestled with a tiger or was it a lion?
If anyone can find it please can it be reloaded.
A fantastic contributer to DATM, often had me laughing out loud at his stories and thoughts. He lasted alot longer with pancreatic cancer than most and I think that probably sums up his stubborn character and his spirit.

I thought they were a useful perk, he told me that I was talking rubbish, and using his own life as an example demonstrated there are better ways to play the system. All things considered, I suspect he was probably right. RIP Otium. A civilised man of great principle.

Very sad news but as many have said he lived life to the max and certainly made the most of his time on Earth. Let's hope the lads do the business on the pitch tomorrow as a fitting tribute to one of Town's greatest fans.

When it comes to next Christmas, just "Otium" on the scoreboard would be enough. We would all know. And feel proud.

We seldom agreed on here but never fell out and had a level of mutual respect, I hope at least. He was the arch agent provocateur and an accomplished raconteur. His views at times bordered on the unacceptable, he could also be oddly contradictory but this place will miss his contribution.
He was certainly an original one off and I think will long be remembered.
Best wishes to all his family and friends.

Plenty of run ins on here with him but always found his contributions colourful and interesting.
I’ll donate the £100 bet I had with him on JR reaching 10 goals to Cancer Research.
RIP Otium

Sad sad news.
He should have been rightly proud to the end on how he fought this terrible disease. Many would crumble but the way he remained stoic and determined it wouldn't stop him living his life how he chose to for as long as possible was inspiring .
And that was Oti...he was his own man. He gave his opinions and said his piece regardless of the response he would get in return. He had a right to be himself and had contempt for those that thought they had the right to stop him...as it should be. He lived his life exactly how he wanted to. Cancer wasn't going to stop him doing that for a moment longer than he could hold it at bay. And what a life he had. He certainly crammed a lot in. These last few weeks in India, a place and people he loved, I doubt he'll have looked back and come up with too many things he'd wished he'd done, or places he wished he'd seen. Not many will do that.
Out of pain now lad. RIP

What sad sad news on DATM tonight 💔⚽️...
I’m fairly new to the forum (April 21’ ) but the love, care, compassion, good wishes, to Oti in my time makes me so PURE PURE PROUD to be a Huddersfield Town supporter...
Beautiful tributes by all bestowed upon a gentleman that clearly held a special place in many hearts 💙⚽️💙...
Obviously I never knew Oti but he clearly leaves behind many cherished memories and I guess will be talked about for many many years on DATM and in and around Huddersfield...
I’ll sign off by this little eulogy to Oti even though I never knew him... he was a Huddersfield Town supporter... Town have a motto...
HONESTY - INTEGRITY- TRUST- COMMITMENT- QUALITY - PRIDE - RESPECT - CHARACTER - VALUE - SUCCESS -
Some HTAFC connected words for you Oti - Have a few Worthy jugs with Worthy and co tonight at The Huddy Heaven Hostelery and tell them how well their and your Huddersfield Town are doing - you leave them in a good enough footy place !
Farewell and Good Luck on your new onward journey - May you find solitude, peace and calm... R.I.P Oti and sincere sympathy to your loved ones, family and friends from Westie in Scotland 🏴 💔 ⚽️ 🥃

Just in from the pub to read this terribly sad news.
How many of us will have comments like this placed on a football forum?
Says it all.
RIP Oti.

I always enjoyed his stories, as far fetched as some could be, I’d seen enough in life to know that they were all possible. We will have to make that pint in another life Oti, RIP.
