Thinking of you mate, really enjoyed reading all your posts. The world travel tales really brought the places to life, some may have doubted but having travelled to these places they were as vivid in your writings as I remember them.
I wish you all the best, and I do appreciate the support email you sent to me when I needed it so many years ago. Thankyou.
I am shedding a tear as I write this.

A stoic man. A character. A teller of glorious stories. A good bloke. Think we would all settle for being remembered for just one of those traits.
All the best Oti. In the words of Jimmymac...always a pleasure, and never a chore.

Peace and love, Oti. Only had the pleasure of meeting him once and speaking a couple of times, but a true gent.

For me one of the better posters. Whether you agreed or not he stimulated debate
He had his detractors and never shied away from those - but a Churchill quote comes to mind when I think of his posts
“ You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life”
All the best Oti

I l Post this on behalf of Sandy aka ksne and her hubby. She still reads but no longer posts. She has had email contact with Oti( Ron) over last few weeks. Last email yesterday was very very short. He is where he wished to be with people who are caring for him. Her and Keith are adding their thoughts and prayers that he will soon find peace after an epic fight.

First got to know Ron properly when met him in Lisbon in 2004. He was selling tickets to all and sundry at highly inflated prices 😊
In 2005 he sold me 4 x tickets to England's game in Chorzow, Poland. He's a well-travelled England fan don't you know 😊
Since have known him from afar in real life and agreed with large parts of what he has written on this forum.
A thinker, worldy-wise gentleman who was knowledgeable about loads of different things and pleasant with it as well.
Thinking of you mate. Hang in there.

Wishing you all the best Oti...Knowledgable and controversial...sometimes infuriating, but most people read what you had to say...DATM will be the worse off without you. Hang on in there..

I don’t post much these days.
Oti though deserves a post (well loads of posts).
Most on here (not all) recognise a character and somebody who has only brought interest and something to this forum. Have I always agreed with him?, hell no I haven’t but in the main I have.
I would like to meet Oti.

Seems as though he is about to pass through the pearly gates. Poems have been written , praises said and the lights are about to be turned off. (or are they ?)

Horrible illness - like many many others I’ve had losses to it (ma Late daddy.. and his sister - auntie Isobel -x-) Having a malt for you oti far away here in Scotland... they say whisky gives one strength so hopefully your comfortable as is possible for you to be.. Huddersfield Town are flying high just now, but it’s reading things like today’s info that throws things back into perspective.. Two good lads from here that I knew well have passed away in the last week one aged 60 with sepsis, the other aged 72 with dementia, both Celtic fans that often asked me about ma HTAFC tops and trips to Yorkshire.. Even in the celebrations of Christmas and Hogmanay and New Year there’s always someone worse off and carrying sadness and thoughts very much with anyone in that position today...

Very sad to hear the news about Oti. I never met him, although thanks to DATM I know I stood a few yards from him on a terrace in Southend in 1982 (with about 39 others). And no doubt was in the same crowd against Hartlepool, Barnsley, Newport, the Bradford 6-3 and all the rest of it. Come to think of it, everyone on this forum has met each other in some sense of the word eh? A true legend and a unique one off, Otium.

Best wishes Otium/Ron if you're still with us, although you'll always be Aaron the class character from CVHS to me and hell of a lot of others around the Colne Valley.
Nobody's yet proved there's life after death, but I wouldn't put it passed you to be back on here posting about how you were in the queue to the pearly gates having a deep discussion with Desmond Tutu and Betty White about who had had the most interesting life 😉.

I always thought I would run into him at some point and we could have a chat about the places that we've been too. So, I will raise a glass to the one I didn't get to know in person, cheers Otium. See you on the other side.

Betty and Des are the advanced party to help prepare the guard of honour! Hoping he’s able to enjoy his remaining time in as much comfort as possible and praying for another miracle (well, two if you count a Town away win at Blackburn).

Huddersfield Town fans have always been a bloody good bunch... The comments in this subject thread mearly reinforces this to the core ! Amen to that....i have been genuinely moved.....unlike my bowels. Chin up mate. As Nelson Mandela once said "life is quite absurd and deaths the final word, you must always face the curtain with a bow, forget about your sin give the audience a grin, enjoy it, it's your last chance anyhow. And always look on the bright side of life da da,da da da da da daaaaa." It was either Mandela or Eric Idle, I'm sure I'm not the only one who gets them mixed up!!!!! All the best.

I don't post a lot on here but sometimes things happen that spring you into life. Not easy for us old un's these days. Known Oti (Ron) since the late 70's and early 80's and shared some adventures with him through the years. I always say it was a good job there were no camera phones around in those days. Most memorable trip was to the Luxembourg v England qualifier in 83. Yes, the mad, mad one. 7 or 8 of us in a Ford P100 pick up, adventures on the ferry, at the port as we landed and lots more best not gone into too much detail. Needless to say we arrived back with a pick up filled floor to roof with duty free beer & one Hell of a party.Even in those days Oti had wanderlust & loved travelling the World educating people in a way only he could. I haven't seen him for many, many years but those memories will last forever. If the worst happens rest well Oti my friend. You have lived Life to the fullest and etched yourself in so many peoples lifes.

I've never met Oti. I've disagreed with much of what he's said on here.
But...
I have a tear in my eye every time I read messages on this thread. I guess that shows the effect he has had on this board over the years. A real character, and the world will be a sadder place when his times comes.
All the best to him, his friends and loved ones at this difficult time.

Crossed swords so many times, been banned for losing it with him twice, yet I don't think I pay attention to anyone's posts as much as I do Oti's. Upsetting to read these last couple of pages. Absolutely one of a kind and my thoughts are with him and those who know and love him.

The majority of us won’t be able to read posts about ourselves at such a worrying time.
Deserve all the messages of support that you are getting Oti.
