Yet the best English keeper at that time was Jimmy Rimmer in my opinion. Truth is there were so many great keepers in those days. Think Rimmer was the first player to win a European Cup winners’ medal with 2 different clubs. (As a player involved in each of the finals_ Great keeper very unlucky to be playing in an era where there was so much competition. I remember watching play for Man Utd in a reserve game at Leeds Road.

Was that Paul Cooper of Ipswich Town around 1980 or 81’ - if I remember he was quite good at saving penalties and I took an interest as I was goalie for ma village school five a side team then... Sorry folks - Tin hat on now - but Joe Corrigan wasn’t so good at saving penalties in 1981 as John Robertson scored the winner for Scotland at Wembley ! Jeez oh... Life was so lovely and carefree as an 11 year old back in 1981.. I hadn’t quite found the bevvy then but music was good, playing footy was fun, watching Match of the Day and The Big Match to see if Town would be on - oh my.. the nostalgic memories of back then ! 👍

He was only about 5ft 10. No way a keeper that size would play top flight these days.

There have been some disastrous Scott’s goalkeepers over the decades ! Though Craig Gordon when at Celtic and Allan McGregor at Rangers are not too shabby - but my goodness there have been some poor ones over the piece including a couple of utter hammering by England !

Think our very own Sandy was a ‘Mutch’ for any Scottish goalie - not that I remember him of course but he was a FA cup winner with Huddersfield Town - its almost 100 years ago since that now ! Hope the club do some sort or recognition in the nearest home match to that important anniversary - they brought out a bladder type ball of the era that I bought and it’s going to ma Local footy bar amongst some other footy memorabilia and a nice grey hoodie with the club livery of 1922 that I also purchased and wear in The West Island from time to time on the rota with all the many many garments of Huddersfield Town clothing attire that I have on a massive rack rail in the spare bedroom !

Well we had our own Leighton in goal on the odd occasion. Back in the days of one sub, Tony took over if the keeper was injured, if memory serves me well. I also remember him between the sticks in a reserve game, leaning on the post with ciggie in hand.

Tony Leighton was brilliant, he was fearless, brought a smile to my face, remember watching Town at Beck Lane, in a pre-season friendly. At half time John Coddington & Johnny Quigley turned up, to watch the game, chatted to them, both much to my surprise were smoking ciggies.

I was told at 6ft 1in I’d never make it and I’m a good four inches taller than him so 🤷♂️

Back in the early 2000's I got in a number of debates on here about Phil Senior's height (as background I thought Paul Rachubka was underrated and was simply a much better keeper). He was listed as 5 foot eleven (and I've just checked a sky sports yearbook that my memory isn't playing tricks on me). I thought that height was pure fantasy but LOADS on here claimed it was correct. Not sure he's smaller than 5 foot 9 but that seems closer to me than 5 foot 11.
