I'd like to see Nicholls given the captaincy. Especially when Hogg isn't available. After their second yesterday he was up the pitch given them all wht for and encouragement. Not for the first time neither. He seems a natural leader and good communication. I love O'brien but just want him to do what he does and not have the burden of the captaincy I was saying exactly the same at the game when he did that

Very rare nowadays that you see a keeper given the armband. He’s a bit of a Hogg, but with a pair of gloves.

I love O'brien but just want him to do what he does and not have the burden of the captaincy He was so mad though after conceding that second goal. Having done his job by producing a worldy one-on-one save, his defenders proceeded to mess about with the ball on the edge of the box instead of sticking it in row Z! I too saw him come up to the pitch to give encouragement to the outfield players and also think he would make a good captain a la Manuel Nueur at Bayern.

He’s a natural leader and his attitude sets a great example. Not often you see a keeper doing what he did yesterday- apart from his consistently good performances you can see him organising and motivating his team mates all through the game. Isn’t that the perfect example of what a captain should do?

He's been excellent, but you don't get an England call up off the back of 3 quarters of a good championship campaign, having made 7 appearances above League 1 prior to this, aged 29.
Ridiculous article from the Examiner.
IF we went up, and IF he carried his form into the top flight, which would be easier said than done as we spend game after game on the backfoot, then maybe after 6-12 months he'd be on the radar.

Forster is shite, not rated at all by Saints fans, but not sure Nicholls is there yet as good as he is. Is Dean Henderson injured? Butland seems to have rebuilt his career a bit as well. All better than Johnstone and get the benefit of the doubt by being pl players

Anyone know if or when the last non top flight keeper was picked for England? Johnstone last year. Before that David James when he was at West Ham

Always had Joe Corrigan chomping at the bit to get selected!! Yet the best English keeper at that time was Jimmy Rimmer in my opinion. Truth is there were so many great keepers in those days.

So, although Alex McCarthy was to be offered a new contract, he has been injured and was previous playing badly. So, it is likely that Forster will stay at Saints.

Don't think much of Johnstone and David James always had a huge boo boo in his game. Pope at Burnley is in my view number one..he is getting a lot of practice.

Shilton would be much better in a penalty shootout these days with the fashion for waiting for the keeper to move/go down first as the taker would be presumably cautioned for time-wasting at some stage!

Regarding Nicholls/England, ok its not going to happen but its only a friendly so why not, even just first or second half perhaps.

It’s thankfully not going to happen. If it did, the second it does, the agent’s eyes light up and the wage demands or transfer request go in, 100% guaranteed.
