Nostalgia for me was ‘normal’ trackside advertising boards with adverts like Vishionhire - Metaxa - Bristol Street Motors - and Johnny’s Huddersfield Hotel - of which many of DATM’s finest may well have a nostalgic tale or two to tell !!!! The electronic boards took a bit of getting used to (for me anyway) and one Saturday after an all night Friday session in Glasgow, I went to Parkhead with a couple of friends to pass the Saturday afternoon and was sitting in the lower tier about 15 rows up from the corner flag and jeez - what a bloody shock it was trying to watch footy with a hangover and these dazzling things buzzing round continuously - once in the first half and twice in the second half, I had to run to the bogs to be pure sick (Christ you don’t wanna lose have to fish your false teeth outta the Parkhead sinks if you can help it) ! I’m sure plenty more had the same problem by the look of the look of the sinks and thankfully it’s nothing like that at Huddersfield Town, they had these boards as well but I never had a bit of bother with them at The John Smith’s stadium and that was after an equally heavy night out in Huddy - so I’m gonna say it must’ve been something in the Scottish water (or water of life) 🥃 that hairy old weekend to blame !!! I’m sure you must be Rab C Nesbit’s stuntman Westie.

Was the Fans changing ends unique to Town and Leeds Road? Often wondered that. Also walking to the Ground with your Dad with a buffet under your arm - not the Party Food Sausage Roll type but a 4 legged Foot Stool so when you stood at the front you could see over the wall. And getting used to Grown Ups swearing around you when you came from a generally Blasphemy free household, never telling your Mum about it when you got home, kind of an unspoken Dad/Lad thing. Every now and again, for no particular reason sometimes they would lock the gate, so we’d get stuck in the Cowshed.for the entire game (!) . If the attendance was big enough we could rush the gate and break it open, so we could then lose our mates wandering up to the top right corner of the Terrace

Checking on the commitment of fellow fans to travel to next Saturdays less than alluring away game by seeing if they join in with “if you’re all going to Lincoln clap your hands”
Oh, and floodlights that you could climb up

Pet Hates; Losing, Travelling, Training !! Famous Person You’d Most Like To Meet; The Queen presenting the Cup at Wembley Footballers of the day were not very media savvy and many gave these stock answers every week with no imagination.

A&BC Orange Back Football Cards 1970 - the ones where you got a bit of chuddy and then used a coin to scrape a back panel for a fact or fiction question. - Swapping those with your mates at school - always one card that was impossible to get and cost 200 swaps if someone had it - standing there "Got - Not got" - happy days

Sometimes I did so despite knowing full well that I wouldn't be attending said fixture.

Shinies were worth 3 normal stickers. Natch.

Old style football nets. Goals seemed to look so much better when scored in these. Bring them back! Stanchions in Football Nets? Goals always looked so spectacular when the ball got stuck in them. I fondly remember this happening in an England international match away to Hungary - it would be around 1981 ish as I was eleven and we loved the live international England, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland games live on TV (and of course Scotland ones shortly thereafter when we got the two TV transmitters up)... This game has stuck in ma mind for 41 years because of this and it was England attacking the goal to the right of the TV gantry and a brilliant strike from the edge of the box flew into the top corner and jammed in the loop stanchen ! I think it could’ve been Kevin Keegan or maybe possibly Brooking or Mariner too, and I remember the huge Hungery goalie - his name was something like Cat-ritz just fisting it out and he was so tall, he didn’t even have to jump to do it - that guy must’ve been about 6’ 8” at least.. Another memory from that game was the lack of roof cover like a lot of the stadiums of Europe back in the day and the unusual lighting bar of floodlights way up in the night sky... The one other time that I remember this happening was in the mid 80’s and Murdo McLeod of Celtic did the same in a game on TV v Motherwell again it wedged in the looped stanchen to the goal at the right of the gantry and again in the loop at the right hand post... These type of nets and stanchen’s had their own charictaristics at each stadiums and I for one preferred them and would like to see them back at Huddersfield Town !

Cheers Ted - you’re a handy technology man with the video clips - great nostalgia indeed for me that !
Cheers also to marshleeds for a brilliant thread and all who have shared such great memories on it - maybe just me getting old (almost 52) but I just seem to love reminiscing so much about such happy and joyful memories !

Favourite other club was always interesting. Paul Madeley said Huddersfield Car "volvo 144 " Food "fillet steak' Miscellaneous dislikes "getting up on cold dark mornings " When I have a minute I'll start a datm profiles thread;-)) Its was definitely the first time I'd ever seen the word miscellaneous. It was there twice every issue, likes and dislikes. I read those religiously but couldn't pronounce it or knew what it meant. Eventually I went and asked my dad.
