Kits. I’ve always been fascinated with them. In the 70’s they rarely changed ( before the multi million pound industry was spawned ) but I’d argue were the best. Simple and traditional and in many cases the away kits were as good as the home ones. Arsenal always yellow shirts, blue shorts. Liverpool always white shirts with red trim and black shorts. Then along came Admiral who were absolutely brilliant and imaginative. My favourite non Town kit of all time? The England Admiral one. Me too, remember getting the Saint Etienne Green Silk Shirt with a round collar in the French Tricolour from Worthington Sports in Brighouse with no connection to France or the Team at all. They had played an Away Game at Anfield in UEFA Cup and was really impressed having seen their kit on Sportsnight. Proudly worn at football practice with my Patrick Boots. Similarly loved the classic Wales Home Shirt, the Red with Yellow/Green side belts and once purchased tried to justify by supporting them in The Home Internationals, John Toshack, Mickey Thomas, Dai Davies era……my only connection with Wales being watching Ivor The Engine before the News and getting married to a Dragon first time round. 🏴😉🏴🏴🏴🏴

Don’t think this has been up yet - Fans on stadium Roofs ! Something you’d never ever get away with now, but clearly happened by these pics at East End Park Dunfermline in the days before a guy called David Murray destroyed Scottish Football and fans packed out their local team’s football ground and never ran to Glasgow for glory - oh for such days once again... I’ve got hundreds of pics of Leeds Road and haven’t seen any Town fans on the roofs there, but have seen a few on the floodlights and on the outside of the fences at The Popular Terrace and there was always The Dalton Bank or The Kilner Bank for free viewing of sold out matches - again, oh for such days once again ! Commentators using fantastic descriptive words, like bedraggled, when players were caked in mud and their barnets had taken a hammering from the monsoon rains… Far better than the stat battle you hear from the modern commentators. Mind you, Motson might have started that trend? Motty was crap, Barry Davies was the man In the early days, in comparison with the 2020's Motty wasn't really crap (went downhill TBF) but Davies was better, much better.

Old style football nets. Goals seemed to look so much better when scored in these. Bring them back! Yep Mooooy - would love to see them back as it’s what I grew up to and many many from several generations before me... I did a bit of research by watching some short highlights available and it looks like the last time they were used at Huddersfield Town was season 2004/05 in a 4-0 win v nine man Swindon on 30th April 2005 in the final home match of that season.. The last man to score was Rob Edwards (85’mins) in his final Town match... I only found highlights of well into the following season where it was the not so nice looking ones suspended from the three metal poles behind the nets (which were honeycomb design that season) so I assume given they’d need to dig in and probably concrete the net suspension stanchen poles, it’d have been done close season and therefore the first goal scored in that design would’ve been in season 2005/06 in a 1-0 win v Bristol City on 9th August 2005 and the scorer was Pawel Abbott (89’ mins) - so a win in the last game with the beautiful old style nets and a win in the more modern but far more scankey looking ones (in my humble opinion).. Two final points - goalkeepers are such protected species nowadays that they probably made the change in case the poor wee souls got net rash burns when brushing against them to fish the ball back out.. and while the modern versions are easier to walk into for ball retrieval - the old style would have been very handy indeed for our own Lee Nichols to waste a wee minute or two ‘attempting’ to get the ball back out... quite handy if it was say 2-1 to Town and near the end of the match ! Yes indeed - Bring these lovely old designed nets back next season - if not across The Football League, then at Huddersfield Town A.F.C. !!!

So cool. The shiniest green, never seen anything like it. Green kits were rare outside of Scotland and Devon.

The next time we went there was a sign on the floodlight saying it had been sprayed with anti climb paint.

Rangers - Celtic - Rangers - Celtic
Looking back it was a weird chant, but I was young and everything was new, so I just went along with it.
I was Rangers, purely on the grounds that they (along with Sheffield Wednesday) were my "other" sides when I fancied a bit of glory support. NB Sheffield Wednesday were a good side in the early 90s.

My uncle was a chef in Bradford city centre in the '80's and regularly came home to my Nan's with a pink on a Saturday evening. Pre-internet days, that was as fast as the superhighway got!

I agree they all seem to wanna look like TV personalities etc, but is it really any different from George Best, Frank Worthington and the rest looking like rock gods? Different time, different influences

We probably know one another then… I last bumped into Gerry a few yrs back, he wasn’t that much older than us as kids, I seem to recall that it was his first job after teacher training college? He also arranged for us to visit White Hart Lane on the annual ‘London trip’. I wouldn’t have realised who Tony Galvin was at that point, but I assume it was him that showed us round, it would have been a couple of yrs before he became a regular in the first team at Spurs. Much like Leeds Rd, those grounds in the late 70’s and early 80’s had so much history and ‘smells’ in them. Got to know Gerry socially after School Days and we will always have a good catch up when we see each other less frequently now. His Son, Paul has continued the Family Managerial Tradition with high level local league sides and his Mother’s Dad was of course Ian Greaves.
Wembley Tour was also one of the option choices of several London Tourist Sites and I usually paired it with Madame Tussaud’s and had my photo taken with ‘big star celebrities’ of the day. Yes, when I lived in Brighouse Ian, Winnie and daughter Christine Greaves lived dead opposite me. She was about a year older than me and never played with us. Three doors further along the road lived Pam Hoyle, nee Cherry - she was Trevor's married sister, and the Hoyle connection isn't what you might think (or at least I don't think that it is)
